Author’s Note: This is a FlashFic (less than 1000 words) written in response to word prompts – “proper, panic, pandemonium” – posted on the forum here: http://www2.adult-fanfiction.org/forum/index.php/topic/61822-week-227-3-january-2016/
Marcos never watched weekday daytime TV normally, since he was usually at work. The few times that he was at home from work was because of illness, and he never watched TV then. But being in hospital meant there was little else to do, except read, and he'd never been big on reading; his job as a lawyer meant more than enough boring reading for him!
“Good god, I can't believe people watch this shit,” he said, switching it off. If it wasn't daytime soaps, it was boring movies or boring people sitting around talking about boring shit. Marcos had his own private room, which would normally have been great, but at that moment, trading insults with some dipshit in a public ward would have at least helped pass the time. He would have gone for a walk except his knee reconstruction put paid to that idea. Thank Christ for the morphine, though!
Instead, he reached for his mobile phone yet again. Just as he touched 'contacts' on his phone, his infusion pump beeped. After a fairly disinterested glance, Marcos returned to his phone… but then immediately looked back. A hand-held button connected to the pump gave him a shot of morphine when pressed. It was programmed to provide a preselected dosage, and only after preprogrammed intervals, to eliminate the chance of overdose. But something was moving on the machine.
“What the fuck?” he whispered. Is that giving me morphine? he thought, picking up the button and looking at it. Did I accidentally press it?
Oh well, he thought, morphine is fucking awesome anyway!
Picking up his phone again, he got into 'contacts' again and began texting a work colleague. After a time, though, Marcos suddenly realised how tired he now felt. What's more, his breathing was being effected. Looking back at the infusion pump, he realised it was still injecting him with morphine.
Panic began to set in. Marcos awkwardly picked up his phone, but it slipped out of his hand and fell to the floor. He reached for the buzzer that would notify the nurses. Normally when he pressed it, he would hear a buzz. But this time, nothing but the sound of morphine being pumped into his veins could be heard.
Marcos reached for the cannula in his arm, but his limbs now felt like lead. He clumsily tried to tear away the tape keeping it in place, but couldn't get a purchase on it. Marcos looked at the closed door to his room, silently pleading with it to suddenly fly open and have nurses rush in. But as the world faded from view, the door remained shut, and the morphine continued to rush into his dying body.

Korey closed his laptop and pushed back his chair, a smile spreading over his face. He could almost picture the pandemonium that would happen when they finally discovered his body. Any investigation into his death would deem a faulty infusion pump being at fault, never for a moment imagining that someone could hack into the hospital's network and remotely manipulate anything that's plugged into it, including infusion pumps. Korey knew it would work when he hacked into a respirator during an operation and turned it off. But Marcos was his real target.
That proper little parasite was the reason why his brother was in prison for a crime he knew he didn't commit! But thanks to his brother getting a fucking moron for a lawyer and the prosecution getting an excellent one, he was languishing in prison for a murder that he himself committed!
Korey knew he would be in hospital getting surgery, because he was the one that smashed his kneecap with a baseball bat. He also knew what his preferred hospital was thanks to hacking into his home and work computers. Thankfully, most hospitals still woefully underestimated how easy it was to hack into their systems, and how much damage could be caused by someone doing just that. Marcos found out though! Next stop was that useless fucking defence lawyer. The only question was, what would he do to this parasite to put him in hospital? Decisions decisions…
The End.
