Descending Night

            Sun shoots a star over Earth, nudging Night awake. Wings unfurling she spreads her feathers wide shaking off the scintillating black. Stars fall in behind her. Sun dips into the ocean to cool himself after hours of burning. Night’s wings skim the water, spilling her into the waves and casting shadow over Earth. Indigo, scarlet, and plum; Sun gives his last good-bye as he rolls with the next wave into sleep. Night drifts over the sky pulling the stars with her and calling to Moon. From her watery bed Moon rubs sleep from her eyes and begins her slow climb.
