Princess of Pot

Princess of Pot

“What do you want to try next? Cush? Purple? A little Evergreen? The Evergreen actually smells kinda like your smoking a Christmas tree.” Jessica said as she rummaged through the small wooden box where she kept her supply. It was filled with bowls, glass pipes, even a midsize bong, and of course a variety of small, medium, and large baggies.

“Hmmm…. Well it is almost Christmas, so I guess we can try the Evergreen.”

We were sitting on my couch in the living room, me sitting with my legs tucked under me like usual, her with her legs crossed balancing her stash box on her lap. The coffee table had been taken over by large piles of snack and fast food wrappers (we both were struck by a severe case of the munchies earlier), empty packs of papers, and old pictures of us we had been laughing hysterically over earlier.

“Good choice! Let’s smoke a bowl this time, I’m getting sick of the bong.” Jess said as she took a pinch out of the evergreen baggie and put it in a small metal bowl. She handed it to me, giving me the honor of firing the bowl up and taking the first hit of green. It did smell, and even taste, a little like a Christmas tree.

Meike, my pit bull, got up slowly and grunted from the effort, she stretched lazily then meandered into the dining to get away from the pot smoke which offended her highly attuned nose. Peabody, the chihuaua, immediately ran up to me and demanded to be lifted onto the couch. He was a pot dog if I ever saw one, he loved to stick his nose right in the smoke. Usually his personality was a little ADHD, but when he was high he would actually relax, it was the only time he stayed still besides when he slept, so I figured it was good for him.

I passed the bowl back to her, and held the smoke in my lungs until my eyes started to water and I had to release it. A huge cloud of smoke came from my mouth like I was a dragon or something, I started coughing violently almost immediately after the smoke vacated my lungs.

“Here drink some of this.” Jess said as she handed me her drink.

I took a huge swig of her diet Pepsi, even though I despise all kinds of diet pop, and slowly regained the ability to breathe again.

“I’m glad were friends again, I really missed you for those couple of months.” I said before I took another hit.

Jess breathed out her own cloud of smoke, totally outdoing the one I created earlier. It wafted over Peabody, surrounding him, and I saw his incredibly tiny nose working overtime to inhale it before it drifted away.

“I know, I had no one to talk to, I mean really really talk to, like we do. I love how we can talk about anything and everything.” Jess replied.

“I know exactly what you mean, I can’t talk to anyone like I do with you. I mean we know everything about each other, our pasts, the way each of us thinks, what were going to say before we even say it. I know when I tell you something you’ll know the reasons behind it, without me having to fill you in.” I said.

“Tell me about it… Not to mention the profound conversations we have about the weirdest shit.” Jess said before starting to cough a little herself. I relinquished the diet Pepsi, and thought about something, I had never really apologized for what happened. I mean I did in the many voicemail messages I left her when I was trying to win her friendship back. But never face to face. I knew she wasn’t over it either, although she hadn’t said a word about it since she finally decided to forgive me and call me back, but she did slip certain elements of our fight into conversations, supposedly talking about other people, but I picked up what she was really trying to say.

“Listen I just want to say I’m really sorry about our fight, and how I picked that evil bastard over you, and ruined us living together. I’ve regretted it since the day after you moved out. I have no idea why I let him twist my mind into doing that. I’m not blaming it all on him though. I’m a big girl and I had the final decision. Hell, I’m just really sorry.” I blurted out, all in a rush.

Jess just looked at me for what seemed like an eternity but was probably just a few seconds. “It’s okay, I forgive you. I wouldn’t have called you back if I hadn’t”

“I know. I’m just afraid our relationship will never be the same as it was.” I muttered, letting my innermost fear out into the cold world.

“Your right, it’ll never be the same. But that’s not necessarily a bad thing, everything changes with time.”

“Yeah but do you think it’ll ever go back to the way it was?” I asked.

“I don’t think so, too much has happened. But I do think eventually we’ll be stronger than we ever were before.”

“Really? That’s even better then! Okay, let’s stop talking about this depressing shit. It’s totally ruining my buzz.” I said trying to talk and hold the smoke in at the same time.

“Hell yes! But I really do appreciate you actually coming out and admitting you were wrong, and apologizing, that really means a lot.”

“We’ve been best friends for almost eight years now, since we were fifteen, I love you like a sister! Well, more than a sister, because mine’s a total bitch, but you get my point! Hell, you’re the princess of pot!” I said, and we both cracked up laughing.
