I wish I could say that this was my fault. I have been blamed for things I haven’t done for the better part of my life, and if it were only to spare my young co-pilot the blame of being reckless, I would’ve gladly stepped into his boots. Unfortunately, he is as stubborn as I am, so he went up against the judgement council on his own. I was forbidden to enter. They wouldn’t take the word of a Mutant over one of a purebred human.

I suppose I should tell you a bit about myself, the world that you’ve stepped into, and what my young comrade has done to warrant him coming under investigation. I am a semi-permanent resident of the planet Delmah, although I was born and raised several light years away in a colony that was designed specifically for the genetic engineering of ‘slaves’ for the planet Delmah. That all backfired several years ago when the government found out what kinds of conditions we were being kept in.

So the long story short… I’m free!

But that doesn’t mean that society has accepted me and my kind for who we are. Most of my kindred have turned feral, and have dropped into the seedy underbelly of the cities, but a few, like me, have gone on to become the best in our profession. I’m not one for bragging, but the Mutants were bred to be stronger and faster than humans. They tried to rule out the intelligence that came with it, but it persisted in a few strains, mine included. So, I am now one of the best star pilots in the local galaxy.

I suppose that was a little bragging, but hey, a person’s entitled to it occasionally. And I don’t think that even a Mutant like me should be excluded from that. I still get snide remarks in the quarters from purebred humans. I’ve learned to take them in my stride. I am intelligent enough to know that most of the comments are spurred from jealously, rather than because of what I am. And they all know that I can take them in a firefight and come out victorious.

I’m obviously not that good at keeping my talents to myself, but given any opportunity, I will start talking about myself. It means that I am a little conceited. And I am a little arrogant. But everyone has their faults, right? Moreover, no one has more faults then my slightly naïve co-pilot, which I was currently waiting for outside the judgement room.

The walls and floors in the government houses were polished to a high sheen, and I knew from experience that even the slightest little bit of water on the floor would send the person careening into the nearest solid object. Granted, this time I wore boots that had a little more tread in them.

The seats were hard and uncomfortable, designed the make the buttocks numb after only a few moments of sitting on them. Nonetheless, I was determined to go through with this, as the seats inside the room were probably as hard and unyielding as the one I had perched myself on.

The doors burst open, and I jumped out of the way, lest an unwary finger get caught in the hard metal as it swung towards me. I was a little slower than usual, and I could feel the whistle of the door as it travelled close to my little finger. One could forgive me, for sitting down for several hours as I had been doing.

The councillors poured out of the room. I counted seven in all, all dressed in the bright and gaudy robes favoured by the nobility. Seeing one noble alone was fine on the eyes, but get a group of them together and I was sure that the effect was meant to dazzle and confuse their enemies.

Blaize exited the room after all the council members had disappeared down the hallway, squawking among themselves, and when he saw me, his face lit up into a smile. That had always made me feel better. The boy had a habit of cheering me up, even when I was in the foulest of moods.

“How’d it go?” I asked in my lilting voice. My speech was always a bit stilted, a side effect of being a Mutant. We were made not to speak.

“Fine,” the boy answered. “Father convinced them to let it go.”

I rolled my eyes and grabbed Blaize’s arm so that we could head towards the door, albeit slowly and carefully. I was not slipping over again. “One day your father isn’t going to be around to fix your mistakes. And this doesn’t mean that I’ve forgiven you, Blaize,” I said in the haughtiest tone that I could muster.

Taking our ship for a joyride was bad enough… but crashing it was even worse. Now we would be out of commission for months on end until I managed to procure a vessel that I liked, and had done all the modifications to it.

“Oh, Tamose…” Blaize said, giving my arm a little pat. “You’ll get over it. I know you will. Besides, father has another job for us.”

Now my interest was perked. “Oh?” I asked, quirking one eyebrow.

“You’ll find out later,” he replied with a devious smile.

I groaned inwardly. Now the little minx was going to hold it over my head all day. If I wanted to hear what he was thinking, then I would have to beg it out of him. Begging was not something that I stooped to, and I merely made a non-committal noise. If I could hold out, he would eventually break down and tell me.

We made it to the doors in one piece and stepped out into the pale afternoon sunlight. I was happy to be out of that stuffy government building and into the somewhat fresh air.

The government building was situated on top of a rather large hill, overlooking the main city and I paused for a moment, watching the people mill around below. Further on, out of town, there was a starport, and I could just see the shining roof from a distance, glowing like a bubble on the horizon. We had very few means of transportation. The very wealthy had their own runabout hovercraft, but the majority of the populace had to walk, or use the public transport.

“We need to see about getting another ship,” I murmured to myself. We couldn’t do anything without one, and I was mourning the loss of my beloved Strike like anything. Only Blaize knew this though, and he kept it to himself.

“No need,” my companion said, giving my arm an affectionate squeeze. “Father’s already set us up with another one.”

Ah, his sire came to the rescue again. I disliked being in the great man’s presence, as he always unnerved me. I avoided him as much as possible, which wasn’t an easy feat in itself. I could hardly refuse when Blaize turned his eyes on me, begging me to come for dinner as befitting my rank as Captain. I shouldn’t have to eat in the mess at the lodgings all the time.

“What has he given us this time?” I could barely keep the irritation out of my voice, and Blaize picked up on it, stopping to look at me.

“There’s no need for that. Captain Jones has retired, and he had turned his ship over to the government. That means we can get it. And don’t look so, Tamose. It is a worthy ship and you know it.”

I had scowled. Anything but that pile of junk! Granted, the Strike had been several years older but I had taken good care of her. “So long as I get to name her Strikes Again,” I said, evicting a gale of laughter out of my companion.

“I’m sure you’ll be allowed to. I should hardly see why not.”

There was little or no time to visit the starport tonight; it would have to wait until first thing in the morning when we would be able to get back before day.

“… Father’s invited me to dinner tonight. Do you want to come?”

I realised that I’d missed out on Blaize’s words, and I quickly snapped back to attention again, giving him a wary smile. “I have to decline, Blaize,” I said, perhaps a little too hurriedly, casting my mind around for a proper excuse to satisfy the crestfallen look on my co-pilot’s face. “Videl’s back in town.”

“Oh.” That probably didn’t make it any better for the boy, and he turned his gaze away from my own. He released my arm and began walking again and I had to jog to catch up with him again.

“Hey, you know I don’t get to see him often,” I said, trying to be placating to him. “Look, we’ll go and see our new ship in the morning, ne?”

“If you even have the energy to stand,” he grumbled, fixing me with a glare.

I didn’t see how we had to go through his every bloody time I mentioned my lover. I was well aware of Blaize’s jealous streak, but this was starting to get ridiculous. “I don’t see why you hate him so much,” I commented, sounding a little hurt. “He is a nice guy.”

Blaize gave me a side-glance, turning his nose into the air. “I think you could do better than him…”

He let that trail off and I knew exactly what he was thinking. While my co-pilot would be more convenient as a lover… naivety wasn’t my style. And I had made that clear on several occasions. “I’m not interested in you like that,” I said, pronouncing the words clearly so that I wouldn’t have to repeat myself.

What happened next was like clockwork. Blaize’s blue eyes filled with tears and he fixed me with a pleading stare. I kept my expression neutral, staring at him right back. His lips parted and I nearly mouthed the words along with him. “I hate you,” he said, breaking the stare and running off across the square.

I clenched my jaw; it took every ounce of self-control I possessed not to go running after him. I could’ve easily caught up with him, shook the hell out of him and explained to him that I was and will ever be a Mutant; a creature to be shunned and looked down upon. The fact that I even had a lover was a miracle in itself.

I ignored the looks that I got and stormed off in the other direction. Blaize would be back to normal by the morning. But, I really was getting sick of him and his childish habits.

A claw-tipped finger traced over the faded tattoo on my collarbone and my eyes opened slowly, a smile blooming on my face as I looked at my lover. “Welcome back,” his voice rumbled. “I thought I’d killed you for a few moments there.”

I snorted softly, reaching up to run my hand through his shock of crimson hair, letting the wiry strands twine around my fingers. “It’ll take more than that to finish me off,” I said confidently, drawing him down for a light kiss.

Videl, like me, was a Mutant. He was a man that wasn’t suited for a lifetime of servitude. I suppose it was the power that he radiated that attracted me to him, both his body and his mind. He gave a small laugh and rolled over onto his back, drawing me with him. Normally I would’ve resented being pulled around like a rag doll, but there was nothing I could do in Videl’s grip. He was a delight to look at; all hard planes and brawny muscle. I knew just what he could do with it.

Had I not been so tired from our earlier efforts, I could be a formidable match for him. However, I settled for curling up at his side and resting my head on his still-damp chest. “I heard that Blaize was on trial,” he remarked, playing with the hair that had come loose from my braid.

“Mmm. Daddy got him out of it though,” I replied, turning my head so that I could look at my lover. My earlier release was drying on my stomach and it was feeling rather itchy. “But we already have a new ship, so I’m not too worried.” I squirmed closer to kiss him again; taking note of the marks on his neck that I knew would fit my teeth perfectly.

“Eyeing your handiwork?” Videl asked, prompting me to nibble on his earlobe.

“Always,” I murmured around my mouthful. I knew it was stirring him up a little… Videl couldn’t resist if I was in the mood for play. He suddenly rolled again and I found myself on my back, his hands pinning my wrists to the bed. “I have to make sure they stay this time.”

He kissed me this time, forcing my mouth open and exploring it with his tongue. I groaned deeply, fire fizzing in my blood when I felt his answering moan. Videl’s knee came up between my legs as he tried to force them open, but I wasn’t having any of that. If he wanted me again he had to work for it.

He snarled and ground his cock against my stomach, his teeth digging into my lip. I finally relented and he pushed my hips up and thighs outwards. There were a few seconds where he lined himself up and then… bliss. He slid into my already-prepared entrance, pausing for a few seconds. I dimly heard a groan through the haze of pleasure that had erupted over my body.

His hands loosened and I reached up to wrap my arms around him as he began to move. There was no gentleness or patience; I sure as hell didn’t mind and neither did Videl. I bit his shoulder and tasted blood, a growl erupting from my lover as he gripped my hips to move harder and faster. I knew there would be bruises there in the morning, but I didn’t care.

I reached down to grab my aching cock and my hand was knocked away with such force I feared for a few seconds that my fingers were broken. “No,” he growled, scarlet eyes blazing at me. I groaned in frustration and instead settled for raking my nails up and down his back. Videl was in one of those dominant moods that made my body ache.

I kissed him again, drawing him down so that I could arch my back so that my leaking cock could get the relief that it sought. However, I was rewarded when one of his huge hands wrapped itself around my arousal, and my entire world went black as my ears were filled with screams.

I awoke to a strange sensation; water falling on my face. At first I thought that I had been dumped out in the rain to catch a cold, when I felt that the water was warm and a hand was running over my body. My first instinct was to shake the water out of my eyes, and I was too late for Videl’s warning growl. “Blegh,” I said, spitting out a bit of soapy water.

He was laughing softly, and he kissed my cheek, suds and all. “I can’t imagine how you wash all this hair,” he said, combing his fingers through the wet tail that fell halfway down my back.
“Carefully. And not while I’m asleep,” I grumbled, turning to look at him. His hair had been stuck down to his head, giving him a less wild appearance and making him look more… human, I should say.

Our kind was engineered not to look like humans, so that we stuck out like a sore thumb. Videl was huge, standing at well over six feet in height and he was all muscle. Scarlet eyes and small fangs as well as claws on his fingers and toes marked him as being a Mutant. He used to have a tail but now only the scar remained and no amount of pleading on my part could get him to tell me how he lost it.

“You’re gorgeous when you’re all floppy,” he went on, his hand running down my thigh, spreading soap over abused skin.

“How long was I out for?” I asked, reaching up to properly deal with my black hair, wringing out the strands. It would take forever to get dry.

“Only ten minutes.”

“Only!” My eyes widened, and I buried my face into his shoulder with a theatrical groan. “I’m never sleeping with you again.” I hated blacking out, and Videl was the only lover who could do that to me.

“Oh go on, you love it,” Videl said, removing his body from my grasp and standing up, leaving me lying on the cool plastic of the tub. I glared at him as he snatched up a towel and began to dry himself off. At least I wasn’t the only one with bruises and my lover caught my smirk. “You should see your neck.”

I tossed a cloth at his retreating back and pulled myself upright onto wobbly legs. The journey to the mirror took a few more seconds and I wiped the steam off it with my damp hand, scrutinising his work in the foggy glass. “Fuck it,” I swore, picking up my towel to wipe it off properly.

With that done… it was easier to see. An incredibly feline face stared back at me. High cheekbones gave me an exotic look, and to top it off I had pointed ears, a sharp chin, and god forbid, slit-pupil golden eyes. But I forwent my appearance and went straight for the marks marring it. The ones on my shoulders weren’t too bad… but there was one underneath my chin that even the high collar of my uniform wouldn’t hide. I groaned; Blaize would notice them in a heartbeat and I’d have to deal with him being snippy tomorrow.

“I hate you now, you know that?” I asked, wrapping the towel around my waist as I walked back through into Videl’s bedroom. He started laughing, the rumpled covers pulled up to his middle.

“You’ve told me that many a time, Tamose,” Videl said, slipping his arms around my waist as I settled in next to him, the nightstand light flickering off. “But it’s nice to come home to you. Keeps me sane,” my lover whispered, rubbing his nose in my damp hair.

I smiled. “I love you, Videl,” I murmured, and I felt him tense behind me. It wasn’t often that either of us uttered those words, and I knew that I’d caught him off guard.

I waited, my eyes growing heavy until I heard the whispered reply, and then I drifted off to sleep.
