Room 213
Prologue
It was during my third year of high school that I was sent to Doeka Academy, a boarding school...and quite an expensive one. My parents couldn't care less were I went so long as I was out of the house to begin with. After I finished my sophomore year, they packed my things and shipped me off. Not very caring, huh? But, I supposed I should make the best of things during my stay. Meet new people, make new friends...get a new life. It all depended on my mood at the time.
I tucked away the map of the school grounds as I entered the dorms. The room that I was to stay in resided at the end of the first hall in the building. As I neared the room, I felt the stares of the other residents focused on me...as if I were walking towards my own death or something. I could only imagine what my roomate must have been like with such a reaction from the neighbors.
I dug into my pocket for the key to the room and, just as I slid the key in the lock and turned it, someone walked up beside me. The person stopped my hand just as I was getting ready to turn the knob and walk inside.
“Oi, you sure ya got the right room?” The person that detained me asked. When I turned to the side, I noticed that he had wild, unruly blue hair with the brightest hazel eyes I had ever seen. They trapped me in their pools. He seemed to frown when I didn’t answer right away.
“Oh, I’m pretty sure I’ve got the right room, it says my name after all,” I replied as my eyes shifted from the blue haired person up to the name plate beside the door. As I did that, my eyes caught sight of another flap of paper underneath my own. Curiosity gnawing at me, I had an urge to peek at the name that was under mine. But then, I remembered the wary looks that were still on me and the fact that someone was still standing right next to me. I focused on my own name instead. Something about the way the name plate looked drew my attention. It looked as if someone had torn it from the plaque, crumpled it, and then replaced it.
“Noyuki…”
My head turned so quickly that I could have sworn I had gotten whip lash. The blue-haired person beside me raised a brow and then released a chuckle. However, it wasn’t his voice that uttered my name. It was someone else’s. The sound of the voice was so hearse and light that the hairs on my arms stood on end. Was I the only one that had heard it?
“You look kind of pale, you’re not squeamish are you?” The blue-haired person asked.
I shook my head in response. “I am not squeamish. Who are you anyway?” I asked, trying to fight down my budding curiosity about the mysterious voice who called out my name. Or perhaps I was hallucinating. I had traveled all night long and hadn’t slept at all. My mind agreed then, that it was all in my head.
“My name is Kassu Minoru, I’m this floor’s dorm manager. And who might you be?” Kassu replied, his hazel eyes glinting at me.
I sighed. All that I wanted to do was to get into my room and collapse on the bed to catch up on sleep. “Noyuki, Fumina” I finally said, ever so quietly. Something inside me wanted to be away from him, yet I couldn’t stop looking into those eyes. Kassu extended his hand and I sealed our introduction with a shake of our hands.
“Be careful in there 'yuki.” He purred.
I thought to myself, ‘just what the hell did I get into’. I had a nagging feeling that I’d be seeing Kassu again. Though, I forced myself to toss him a smile. When he left, I finally turned the knob and walked into my room. I made sure to close and lock the door behind me. The room itself was beautiful, the window across the room was covered in a light gray curtain that fell softly to the floor. The bed was on the right side of the room. The sheets were of a soft gray and red. The carpet, I noticed, was a neutral color. Though, a darkened spot on the left hand corner caught my attention. On the left side sat the dresser and mirror, as well as a small countertop with a sink. I would have to get my own refrigerator.
Well at least this place had better living conditions than my own house. I dropped my things at the door and went for the bed. I let myself drop onto it. A soft sigh left me as I buried my head into the sheets.
“Noyuki.”
My body flipped over and my eyes searched the room for someone...anyone. With my building fear, I walked to the door and opened it, looking from side to side. No one was there. Not even the dorm manager. I slowly closed my door again.
My mind came up with the only other reasonable conclusion. My room was haunted…
Or I was borderline crazy.
