Chapter 1- Coincidence?
Michi: This story is a spin-off from Savoring Time! (though it can be read by itself just as all the others) Maru's been really enjoying this story recently and we've both agreed to start posting it after the latest chapter of Savoring Time, but I ended up strangled with my everyday workload and couldn't beta it until now. So, here it is!
An angel wearing gold, green, and white robes entered the Archives. His bright, white wings folded behind him as he walked in. By the time he reached the receptionist's desk, his wings were tucked away. They would remain that way until he willed them to unfurl again. Hakane's deep sapphire eyes were glistening."Might I ask where your Ancient rack may be?" He asked the librarian in a kind tone, smiling softly.
"The last column on the left." The librarian replied.
The Archives was a building made up of many smaller buildings. Many ancient scrolls written by every type of supernatural being imaginable resided in the dome-like library. But, this time, Hakane wasn't interested in researching anything supernatural in nature.
He turned his attention to the column that the librarian had directed him to and made his way over to it, his eyes scanning the books there. Hakane had been given yet another mission from his higher-ups. He had to search through old maps. This was only a part of his current mission, but he needed to know if any of the locations he was researching were renewed.
----
A demon dressed in robes of black, gray, and dark blue hesitantly made his way down the main entrance of the dome that housed The Archives. Lyre had never personally researched anything for a mission before but, since this particular mission required it, he had no other choice. He stopped at a desk, asking a librarian to help guide him. "Hello," Lyre greeted. "I was wondering if you could point me out to any books about Ancient Architecture?"
The librarian pointed towards the back of The Archives, wondering briefly why two people in a row asked for the same section. "The third shelf on the last column on the left."
As Lyre made his way to the shelf, his fire-speckled red eyes widened. Standing right in front of the shelf was the most gorgeous person he had seen in a long, long time. He ran his hand through his short black hair subconsciously before approaching the other. His eyes raked over the person's body, cursing the robes that covered him up.
"What are you looking for there?" Lyre asked as he neared him.
Hakane frowned a bit, thinking about how troublesome this particular mission was becoming. As he reached for another book, a voice drew his attention. He turned around and instantly became entrapped in honey-colored, fire-pooled eyes. "Nothing important." He replied, looking away.
At that very moment, the sound of loud groans and moans drifted over to them. After a moment, they both recognized the sounds as copulation.
"Heh," Lyre commented with a smirk on his face. Another series of loud moans were heard. "I ought to go over there and tell them a thing or two about having sex in The Archives for anyone to hear-" He was more than ready to walk over to the source of the sound.
Hakane was about to turn back to the shelf when the moaning caught his attention. A deep red blush flashed on his cheeks. When the person near him had mentioned interrupting, he reached out his arm to grab him and pulled him back against himself and the shelf. "I-It's best to not interrupt them......" He said, his embarrassment clearly showing through his blushing. Hakane heard the clashing of books falling to the ground and all but jumped when he heard what came afterwards.
"Gods...yes!"
Lyre found himself against the gorgeous creature in front of him and against the shelf, his arms on either side of the other. He really liked that position. A mischievous smile affixed itself onto his face as he saw the other blush with embarrassment. "Well, if you insist on not interrupting them, I won't."
Hakane felt his cheeks heating up full blast. The sounds of a table screeching and their loud moaning had the angel wishing that he was never sent to The Archives ever again. Hakane couldn't help the tiny gasp that left his lips, completely forgetting about the man in his arms.
Though he was mostly tuning out the moaning of the couple that was several shelves away, even Lyre couldn't quite block out the louder ones. 'What a lucky bastard' he thought to himself of the person that was having his way with the "moaner". 'To be able to find someone that didn't give a damn whether they were in a decent place to fuck or not...that's really something.' His attention went back to the person in front of him, whose blushing cheeks and bashful expression were beginning to get a rise out of him.
A loud cry ripped out from across the shelves, making both the two men and the receptionist at the desk jump.
Hakane's blush turned redder and redder as the cry died down. He had to close his eyes to attempt to will his blushing down. How utterly embarrassing to catch two people sharing their love for one another so...openly!
Lyre struggled with himself to keep from letting out a little moan at the delicious sight of the gorgeous creature before him trying to calm himself. "They're definitely done now," He pointed out. "But, if you're having difficulties composing yourself," He purred as he leaned closer to the other. "I certainly don't mind having such a proximity to you." He was inches away from the other's face, staring fixedly at the man's tempting mouth. Would his mission allow him enough free time for him to stay in the presence of this gorgeous creature?
Hakane felt his cheeks burning up again upon hearing those words. When he looked at the man that stood before him, he was stunned by his eyes yet again. This time, they were a swirl of deep red with specks of amber gold, and they looked as if they where churning. He felt himself become ensnared in them, and he didn't want to look away for some odd reason. The angel felt himself lowering down to the other in some sort of trance, their lips barely touching. That was when his brain began to work. His eyes grew wide and he jumped back from the other, a hand on his chest.
"I-I'm sorry, I'm not sure what came over me." Hakane confessed, his blush returning. He moved back to the shelf. "Now, if you'll excuse me, I've got work to do." He said in his most calmest of tones, but with obvious cracks in it. His blue eyes skimmed across the books quickly and he pulled out two of them. With a small sigh, Hakane sat at one of the tables and began flipping through the pages of one of the books that contained many different area maps.
Lyre could feel the other's lips nearing his...so close. And then, he felt the other jump away. Damn. His hand clenched and unclenched in frustration as the gorgeous creature moved away from him to sit at a table. Lyre took a deep breath to calm himself down, loosening his hands. He looked over the shelf and was surprised to find that one of the books that he was searching for was missing from the shelf. He turned around to look at the man at the table in a curious manner before heading over there and sitting next to him. "Need any help?" Lyre offered, his expression changing into one of worry. "Listen, I know that I come off as an imposing character to anyone who doesn't know me personally. Allow me to make amends." He extended his hand towards the other. "Hi. My name's Lyre. I'm here to look up something for work myself."
Hakane stiffened just a bit when he saw the other sit by him. He flipped a page and glanced it over, realizing that it was now on a map of the human world. He sighed and was about to turn the page again when the other's voice stopped him. He turned his head to face him. "No, no, I'm fine." He assured before listening to what the other had to say. He blinked for a bit, feeling confused, but smiled softly in return and shook his hand."It's a pleasure to meet you, Lyre. My name is Hakane." He replied as he slowly released Lyre's hand. "So, what kind of work lands you in The Archives?"
Lyre let out a triumphant grin onto his face. "Hakane," he replied, committing the name to memory. When he was asked about work, however, he realized that he would have to be vague. The tricky thing about missions was that he couldn't reveal them to anyone. "Oh, just looking for old architecture. A hobby of mine." He winced inwardly. Though it was true that he was looking through old blueprints of ancient buildings, it wasn't entirely his hobby.
He nervously flipped through the pages of a random book that he grabbed from the shelf and was surprised to actually find what he was looking for. "Destiny sure has a way of guiding people," he muttered to himself. "Listen, I found what I'm looking for so I better get back to work." He said with a regretful tone. "I'll see you around. Who knows? Our work will probably land us in the Archives again."
The blueprints showed a hidden chamber of an ancient building that was currently blocked off in the present time. The great thing about his mission was that Lyre was given permission to pass through time and search out that hidden chamber during an era that the passage way wasn't blocked off.
As soon as Lyre stepped outside the Archives, he unfurled his large black, bat-like wings and took off to the sky. A warp in the shape of a yellow cloud opened up as he flew forward and passed right on through.
Throughout time, humans had never been very fond of demons, so the moment that Lyre was on the other side of the warp, he landed in the middle of the nearest woods to keep from being seen. Once he landed, he tucked away his wings and took on a more human appearance. His robes became a white blouse with a black vest along with black slacks and boots. And his tri-color eyes turned amber.
Lyre walked out of the woods and neared the building where his target would be. He sneaked his way inside, the humans taking no notice of him, and walked through the secret passage into the hidden underground chamber. Once there, he found the corner of the chamber where there were some loose floor boards. He moved them aside and found a case...the prize. This was what he was tasked to find. He opened the case and his jaw dropped. The ceremonial knife with the cursed ruby wasn't inside.
He quickly slid the case back under the floorboards and left the chamber. Lyre rubbed the back of his neck as he went back through the passage. The empty case meant that either someone stole the knife or they hid its hiding place better than he thought. He passed by a pretty maid and held her to the side by taking hold of her elbow. "Excuse me, miss..." He purred. "You wouldn't happen to see someone come through this chamber with something wrapped in their hands, would you?"
"Y-yes," She stuttered in a flustered manner. "He looked like a scholar. I think he lives in the fifth floor."
"Thanks," Lyre replied with a smirk. He leaned over to kiss the maid on the cheek before he climbed up the stairs that led to the fifth floor of the building. Once again, the other humans paid him no mind. He closed his eyes to concentrate on the signature pulse of the ceremonial knife and made his way to the "scholar's" room. He looked to the left and to the right to make sure that no one was looking before passing under the door as a shadow. He followed the pulse of the knife right to a bag on the bed. "Found you," he whispered.
But, just then, the sound of the door turning alerted him to someone entering. He immediately converted into a shadow and hid under the bed, cloaking his presence. Who he saw walking in made his heart race. It was Hakane! But, just what was he doing in that particular era?
-----
Hakane had watched as Lyre walked off, flipping though a section of the maps again and finding what he was looking for. 'The perfect spot', he thought. His mission was to keep a cursed ceremonial knife hidden so that it wouldn't land in the hands of the Lord of Death and Darkness. The angel realm knew just how long Lord Zarzimadden had wanted the knife, and they took it upon themselves to keep it hidden from him and any of his possible spies from obtaining it.
Hakane had found the knife earlier that day and stole it away before Zarzimadden's spies got to it. He stood from the table, his newfound location tucked away in his mind. He placed the book back before he began to walk towards the exit. On his way out, he saw a fellow angel and waved to him. "Yasuo! Hey, what are you doing here?" He asked, stopping a few feet in front of the other angel.
Yasuo had deep, magenta-hued eyes with deep, shiny, black hair that he always kept in a sloppy bun. He was dressed in white robes that contrasted against his semi-tanned skin. His light gray wings immediately folded closed behind him. "Hakane, good to see you again, I'm actually here on a mission myself," He said with a calming smile.
"I see,” Hakane said. He could have sworn that Yasuo's wings were a different color than usual, but it must have been a trick of the light. “Well, I'm actually on my way out. I've got to get somewhere." He concluded and, with a wave, Hakane was out the door. A portal appeared for him to use just outside the Archibes. Once he was through, his robes disappeared to transform into a crisp white button down shirt that reached his mid thighs, which he left open. He wore a light blue t-shirt under it, along with simple blue pants and shoes.
After Hakane had retrieved the knife earlier in the day, he had immediately phased to the Archives in order to search for a safer place to hide it. In the past, Zarzimadden's spies had always somehow managed to barely grasp the knife. He entered the room that he was temporarily staying in for the time being and grabbed the wrapped knife. Since it was cursed with a powerful, evil spell, a being such as Hakane could be burned if he touched it. At least, that was what he was told and Hakane wasn't taking any chances. Thus, even though the knife was sheathed, he had wrapped it. He was getting ready to leave when he remembered something and stopped. He had left a map of area on the bed as well. Hakane quickly made his way back to the bed and stopped again. This time, he felt the slightest shift in the ground waver and he quickly moved back and got into a defensive position, his eyes narrowing to the bed. "Who's there?!" He called.
Lyre nearly sighed aloud when Hakane sensed him and stood all defensively like that. He hadn't expected to see the gorgeous man again so soon, but now that he was completely busted, he was probably going to lose major points with him. Which got Lyre thinking about what Hakane was doing in that era to begin with. A moment passed in which everything slowly began to click together in Lyre's mind. Of course! Hakane must be after the ceremonial knife as well for some mission! Lyre didn't like the sound of that. "Calm down," He said before he slowly materialized right in front of Hakane. "It's me, Lyre." He looked from Hakane to the knife on the bed and back again. "You're an Angel, aren't you?"
Hakane's expression turned to that of a slightly shocked one upon seeing Lyre standing in front of him. His mind thought up the many impossible outcomes of why Lyre was standing there. One of them was that he was possibly even hallucinating. He stood and straightened himself out, his blue eyes guarded as he nodded. "Yes...I am an angel..." He replied hesitantly. His mind went back to the first time he saw Lyre. Those eyes that were constantly churning in reds and golds...and his black hair. He should have realized it then, but Hakane couldn't sense him at all. The angel turned his attention back to Lyre as the other neared him. He could feel his heart begining to thud, a soft cherry blush making itself known on his cheeks.
"The reason I'm asking," Lyre said as he stepped closer to Hakane. "Is because I just happen to be a demon. A demon that's on a mission in this era as well. Coincidence? I think not." Just like the last time he was in close proximity to Hakane, Lyre had this insatiable urge to kiss him. But, now was not the time. "I don't know why you're after the knife, but I was asked by my Lord to retrieve it. On that note..." Before Hakane could react, Lyre swooped down and planted a solid kiss on his lips. He smirked before he threw the room into darkness and grabbed the ceremonial knife from the bed. Completing his mission and bringing the ceremonial knife to Zarz would probably make Hakane his enemy, but, Lyre didn't have a choice in the matter. He left in the form of a shadow, leaving the building and rapidly tearing through the streets.
The angel's expression turned to an angered one. "What?! No, you can't take the knife to Zarzimadden! I won't allow-" His words, however, caught in his throat when he felt lips against his own. For an instant, he had forgotten how to breathe. Hakane stumbled when the room became shrouded in darkness. He could only look around frantically as he heard Lyre shuffling in the darkness. He lit the room back up when his mind settled down and looked around. A frown fixed itself onto his face when he saw that both Lyre and the knife were long gone.
When Lyre figured that he was far enough away that he would not be followed by a particularly hot, sapphire-eyed angel, Lyre entered an inn and paid for a room. Zarzimadden hadn't given him a time limit for the retrieval of the knife, so Lyre was in no rush to go back just yet. He kicked off his shoes and flopped on the bed. Perhaps he would take a light nap before returning to the Underworld.
Hakane thought that this mission would be a piece of cake, but it seemed like he had his work cut out for him this time. He had a feeling that he would be crossing paths with Lyre for a while. He sighed and closed his eyes. As a precaution, he had laced the knife with a bit of his power so that he could track it if he ever lost it. He homed in on its trail, which he found was beginning to fade due to Lyre's demonic essence. Hakane opened the window and jumped out, his wings unfolding and lifting him up with the winds. He gave them a flap and he soared off in the direction of the semi-pulsing trail.
The trail led the angel to a hotel. Hakane landed on the roof, his wings folding and disappearing as he sneaked inside. He looked from side to side to make sure that he wasn't spotted before making his way down the hall. He entered the room that was right across the aura of the pulsing knife and waited until nightfall. He then tip-toed across the hall into Lyre's room and used his magic to quietly break the lock and slip inside.
The angel saw Lyre's form on the bed, sleeping. Regardless, the demon looked as though he was keeping his guard up. Hakane spotted the knife in the bag beside him. It would be impossible for him to not end up touching Lyre. His mind drifted back to the kiss and he felt the lightest of blushes on his cheeks before he shook his head. He was going to get pay back for that. He moved quietly over to Lyre, seeing how beautiful his slumbering face was. He willed the thoughts away as he climbed onto the bed. One of his knees clambered just to the side of Lyre's waist while the other reached around to semi-straddle the sleeping demon. As he reached for the knife, some of his wheat blond hair fell over his shoulders to rest right on Lyre's collar bone. The tips of his fingers touched the bag and he slowly moved them until he had the bag in his hand. He felt Lyre shift under him and, before Lyre could grab him, Hakane jumped off and raced out the room. He made it down the hall and out the window, flying off and through a warp to a different era.
