Rain's entire frame shook from frustration. He couldn’t do this. It was too much, too hard. A shaky hand worked through his dark curls, blunt teeth drawing blood from his chapped bottom lip as he fought temptation. He had promised his older brother he would knock off the heavy drugs.

He wanted to keep that promise, really he did. But it was so damn hard. His body ached.

Chugging a glass of water he tried to wash out the feeling off cotton mouth.

It would be so easy to get the smack though, just a jog outside and a couple of blocks. He knew where his dealer would be now.

Shit. Too tempted…

He forcefully shook his head and snatched up the phone dialing the first number that came to mind.

“Holden please,” he whimpered into the receiver the second he heard someone pick up. “I need… I can’t do this bro. I know I said I would but I can’t. I need… I need something, anything. I need a distraction. Could… could you please come over?”

He sounded so weak, so childish asking his eldest brother for help but there was nothing he could do. If he didn’t have help he was going to cave and he knew it.

A momentary silence came over the line as Holden tried to translate the string of rushed words.

“I mean I know it’s pathetic and…”

“Calm down Rain, breath and shut up.” Holden ordered as his brain finally caught up. “Don’t leave your apartment and I’ll be there as soon as I can, got it?”

“Holden, I…”

“No excuses.” His tone was harsh leaving no room for argument. “I’ll be there soon, promise, just don’t do something stupid.”

Pain shot through Holden’s heart minutes later at the sight that greeted him inside the apartment.

Rain was huddled on the couch helplessly rubbing his arms. What bothered him more was the light sheen of sweat covering the seemingly cold body. Patches of blood showed where Rain had obviously scratched himself too hard.

“You look like shit.” He spoke up to make sure the other knew he was there.

“Cold sweat I think,” Rain attempted to explain, smiling despite how he was feeling at the warm sound of Holden’s voice.

“You gonna be alright?” Holden asked as he plopped down on the other side of the couch. He was going to ask more when he caught sight of something between Rain’s dark fingers. Narrowing his eyes he snatched the item away, a sneer forming on his face as his suspicions were confirmed.

“Give that back!”

“Like hell. What are you doing with this shit Rain?” He held up the full syringed needle with an accusing glaring. “ You are supposed to be detoxing not…”

“It’s not worth it.”

“What?”

“It’s not worth it,” Rain answered through clenched teeth. “The itching, the fevers, throwing up, these damn chills. It’s too hard. You… you don’t understand. Everything hurts, I can’t focus, I want, I need it. Please Holden. I’ll get off the stuff later but not now. I need it too much. I can’t, I can’t do it. I keep you up at all hours, dragging you out of bed at 3 in the fucking morning. It’s not worth it, I’m not!”

A slap fell across his face. “Take that back.”

Rain’s hand flew to the offended spot as he stared through hurt eyes. “What the fuck man.”

“You heard me, take it back. You’re not giving up, not now, not when you’ve gotten this far.”

“Three days, it’s been three days and I’m ready to claw my own eyes out. You saw that junk you made me read. It could take a week for this stuff to run its course. That’s four more days. I can’t… I can’t take this that much longer.”

Tear slipped slowly down his cheeks as he wiped them away furiously.

“Oh man Rain, hey,” Holden sighed, caught off guard by the display. Rain never let himself break down in front of anyone.

Rain shook his head stubbornly and looked away, refusing to meet the concerned blue eyes.

At a loss for what else to do Holden leaned forward, lips brushing softly against those of his brother’s.

It seemed to have the desired effect when Rain’s head snapped up, brown eyes wide in shock.

Had he, had Holden… he licked his tingling lips as he tried to process what had just happened. It was a harmless kiss or should have been. They were brothers, it probably meant nothing but still…

He cast a critical eye over his oldest sibling.

Physically speaking they couldn’t be more opposite.

Holden was a tall man, a few inches over 6 feet and lean but with a slight build to his frame. His hair was straight, shaggy blond falling just past his ears, his skin fair. He had sharp features, a strong, elegant jaw. The only real flaw he has was his nose. A fight a few years ago had broken it and for personal reason it was never fixed. The result was it being crooked. Rain thought it made gave him character. Overall he was handsome in a boy next door type of way.

Rain was on the other side of the spectrum. He didn’t even reach 6 feet. His hair was deep chocolate brown, cascading down in heavy waves to his shoulders. He had wide brown eyes with rounded features, highly defined cheekbones and dark skin. Between the two he was defiantly the pretty boy type though would slug anyone who even implied it.

If someone didn’t know better they would never know they were brothers.

The warm flash that whisper of a kiss had caused was starting to make Rain wish they weren’t. It was no great secret to anyone the he was bi-sexual. As far as he knew Holden had only shown an interest in women.

But still, the idea was so wrong and Holden would never…
