Prologue

There were people who came from accepting families. Loving, caring, families that you could tell your deepest, darkest secret to, and they would do everything they could to help and support you. Such families could commonly be seen hugging and kissing on television during prime time in the 1970's, warming the hearts of everyone who worked at a nine to five job and hated every second of it. So family was what brought them together, hugs, kisses, and warms talks by the fireplace.

Alec did not have one of those families.

He thought he had, yet even still he reserved his secret. Locked it away with the utmost care and took multiple precautions to make sure no one ever knew: knew that Alec was gay.

It wasn't something that came out of the blue for Alec. No, it was something he had always known, even in his youth somewhere in the back of his mind the notion must have clicked. As he got older, the truth became even more prevalent, and Alec had tried to fight it, but he quickly found the support of online conversations to enlighten him, tell him it was okay to be who he was. Alec believed them. And he had never felt like such a fool. Seventeen years old, Alec came to realize he had
fallen in love with his best friend. Handsome, smart, funny and they had known each other since childhood. So much in common. And one night, Alec, unable to hold himself any longer, confessed these feelings to his friend.

That very moment, was forever frozen in Alec's mind. The look on his friend's face, his heart sinking as his friend darted from the room. Yes, that moment, frozen in time, the exact second when Alec's life effectively ended.

Rumors spread like wildfire, Alec leaving school within the first hour the next day. Teased, bullied, there was no way for him to handle it. He fled, fled to the one place where he thought he could find comfort; his home. Only to find his parent's had recently heard the news. They argued, they fought, and Alec desperately pleaded that it was simpy who he was.

They finally agreed. And promptly kicked him out of their house. "No fags will live here!" His father yelled as some cruel form of joke.

He couldn't stay in town on the streets, it would only take one gang of bible thumping facists to end his life. Despite having nothing left, Alec had didn't want to wind up with his face bashed in like a wrecked car, bleeding out in some alley. So he ran out of town.

Two days, and two cities later, Alec found himself in the city of Black Ridge. It was a nice city, not quite so large as the suburb littered city he came from, but plenty of tall buildings, and even older antique buildings dating back hundreds of years, recently refurbished into museums. Alec had never remembered coming to Black Ridge, and couldn't understand why. At night, the lights dim on the concrete streets, gave it a nice atmosphere. The perfect time to take a late night stroll, of course not on an empty stomach and two steps away from passing out at any given moment, but a perfect time none the less.

Alec cast his eyes to the wall. He just needed a place to rest his eyes for a moment. Closed off, and out of public eye would be perfect. Alleyways were just too cliche, and most already had a few homeless people sleeping with tattered jackets as comforters. Alec didn't mock, he would be one himself soon enough. If not dead from hunger. He wasn't yet to the point where garbage looked appetizing, but not far away.

As he wandered aimlessly, Alec found himself weakly stumbling through a park, the moon casting a blue shine down on the pond in the middle of the sidewalk paved area, with lush green grass rustling in the crisp air and the wind whistling as it whipped the trees. Alec's eyes fell upon a hideously painted crimson park bench. His bed for the night.

Just as Alec's hand reached the bench, his body already lurching for a bad night's rest, a bone chilling shriek rang through the air. It was close. Alec looked around the park, for the source of the scream as it rang out again, a deafening tone in the dark night.

Alec felt fear settle in as he looked around, his blue eyes falling upon a huddled, shadowed mass scantly illuminated by the pales shards of moonlight. Alec crept closer, wary to alert whatever was before him.

Reaching the tree closest to the mass, Alec pressed his small body to the oak, shaky eyes peering out from his safe hiding spot. He realized the dark mass was a group of people, three of them, crouched and huddled around something, all tightly packed into a ball. It was still too dark, Alec unable to see what the people were crowded around.

Of the three, one's head darted up. His mouth was smeared with crimson liquid, and his nose was sniffing the air like a dog. As he rose, and moved from the pack, Alec got a clear view of what the three were huddled around: it was a person. What was left of him anyway, his body torn apart and the three draining blood from whatever source they could, drinking it with leud slurping noises that turned Alec's stomach.

The one that rose sniffed again.

"What is it?" One asked, turning his mouth from the ripped neck of his victim.

"I smell someone."

If there was ever an appropriate time for the words, "Oh shit."

"Really?" He sniffed. "Yeah, me too."

The third one was still eating, but tore his mouth away from the severed arm in his hands to join in the sniffing. "It's close."

"I'm still hungry."

Having been on the track team before his unofficial expulsion from school, Alec had grown confident in his sprinting ability, having actually made it to conference once. Too many factors weighed themselves in, though. For one, they hadn't actually found him yet. Running would give away his position. Another was the fact he was hungry as hell, and severely weakened because of it. He wouldn't make it far. Finally, there was the two nights without sleep fatigue weighing in on him.

But then there was that damn body, torn apart at the feet of the three men. He wouldn't be next. He wouldn't.

They inched closer to the tree. They had found him. His only option remaining was to run.

And so he did. He darted out from behind the tree and pushed his body in the immediate opposite direction of the three men. His stride was a good pace, and adrenaline temporarily cut the rumble in his stomach. He was confident he could get away.

Alec took pride in the full three long strides he took before a hand clutched his shoulder and threw him to the ground. "Hey there little piggy!" He mocked.

"Let me go!" Alec struggled in vain, his hand already pinned above his head.

"He looks kinda pale, probably hasn't eaten in days. Not a lot of blood there."

"Who the fuck cares? I'm hungry!"

"Please, let me go!" Alec screamed again, sobbing now.

"Scream all you want! No one's gonna hear you!" His mouth opened, his tongue swiping over his cruel, pearly white fangs that glimmered in the dim moonlight. Alec's heart raced as the teeth descended, and sunk into his neck.

Alec screamed, cried out desperately as the teeth ripped through his neck, blinding hot pain shooting through his body, his body racking as his blurry eyes watched the two others standing above him and the one on top of him, laughing and mocking him as the blood was drained out of his body, sucked into the mouth of the one on top of him.

Light. Blinding light was all Alec could see. The mouth was torn off his neck, Alec hearing new voices join the two laughing..

"Gluttonous bastards!" One of the new voices yelled, his voice hot and fiery.

The sounds of screams, of tearing noises, and then splashes as something was discarded into the nearby pond.

"This one's dead." Another voice, stern and cold. Alec wondered if the voice was talking about him. No, probably talking about the dismembered corpse that Alec was to be.

Arms lifted Alec up, his body pulled taut against another. "Shit, this one's still alive, Snow! We've gotta help him!" The fiery voice again.

"Ashe..." The cold voice. "Tch, very well...." Before anything else registered, Alec felt something hard, dripping with warm liquid pressed to his lips. "Drink it." The voice ordered. Alec didn't know what it was, but his lips parted and the soothing, soft liquid drizzled past his lips. A little trickled down his throat, and Alec felt his vitality return. A little more, and his neck began to tickle, the pain of the blood escaping his body replaced with rather pleasurable sensation, like a lover nipping and kissing his neck.

"You're gonna be alright now, just keep drinking." The fiery voice whispered, though much more quiet and gentle now. Alec sucked the liquid, the more he drank, the better he felt, life returning to his body, and darkness encompassing his entire being.

Serenity, sweet melodies and dreams already playing in his head, Alec felt his body drifting to sleep, the words, "This is a mistake...." was all he heard before his mind was shut out to the outside world, drifting into soft darkness.

Alec felt warm, safe,, his body reaching and pulling the soft blanket on his body closer, shutting out the cold nip of the wind. His blue eyes cracked open, immediately adjusting to the darkness all around him, his mind groggy in a state of almost drunken confusion.

He immediately realized the change in his setting. He was in a bed, a rather soft bed, blanketed in warm covers. The room was rather basic, a dresser in the corner of the room with a mirror atop it and a window with tightly closed shutters to stall the intrusion of light from the outside. As he pulled himself up, the cover dipping off his body, Alec realized he in this unknown place; and he was very naked.

With no idea where he was, and still trying to piece together the events of the night before, as in the people who attacked him, Alec decided to explore and find where he was. Alec climbed out of the bed and crept across the room, shielding his own manhood with his hands as he made his way to the dresser to find something to wear, or at least cover himself with. Of course, the dresser ended up being completely empty.

The door next, Alec creeping to the door and carefully opening it as he had seen done in so many crime shows, where the cop was about to bust the big criminal. Only, he lacked a drawn sidearm...and clothes.

The hallway was bare, save for a few pieces of abstract artwork hanging tastefully on the wall. As he left the room, Alec looked over an oaken railing down to the floor beneath. He was on the second floor of a very expansive estate.

All of his observations melted when a soft groan filled his ears.

Alec's head shot down the hall, where the groan had emanated from. Curiosity reared it's head, Alec taking light steps down the hall, each cautious of the wood floor creaking and giving away him away.

Finally reaching the door at the end of the hall, the groans becoming deeper and more desperate, Alec cracked open the door.

Two bodies, two male bodies, were wrapped around one another. Naked, one with short black hair crying out and clinging to the back of another whose long locks of hair were as white as snow, spilling down his powerful back. The white haired man's hips were melted with the raven haired man, deep thrusts ripping multiple moans from the limber man with black hair. Heat settled in Alec's cheeks as he watched the two men in their most private moment, but there was something more.

The black haired man's hands were tightly clenching snow white roots, pulling the man's head to the crook of his neck where blood was freely pouring down to the towel underneath. The white haired man's teeth were buried to the root, his mouth sucking at the punctured neck hungrily.

"Oh god!" Alarm racked through Alec as he recalled his own experience. His outcry alarmed the two, breaking their sensual dance to lock their eyes onto Alec's own. Gold and crimson, the black haired man had eyes red as blood, and the white haired man had deep, golden eyes that stared coldly at Alec.

"Shit!" The black haired one screeched, climbing out from under the man with white hair.

Alec ran, ran from the black haired man making a beeline for the door, and ran desperately down the stairs.

"Don't go outside!" The black haired man barked as he desperately chased Alec down the stairs, stumbling over one step before latching onto the rail to regain his composure.

"Get away from me!" Alec screamed again. Reaching the door, Alec tore the door open, golden light casting onto his body. And the most terrible heat washed over him.

With a deafening scream Alec fell to the ground, his blood boiling as the light burned onto his naked body. He fell to the ground, following fire hazard protocol, and curled into a writhing ball.

"Shit, shit, shit, shit, shit!!!!!" The black haired man screamed. He slammed the door shut, and lay his own naked body over Alec, his tightly toned body providing a blanket for the smaller toned Alec. "I said not to open the damn door!" He barked.

"I-I feel like I'm on fire!" Alec felt tears well in his eyes. "I-It hurts..."

"I know you're hurting..." His gruff voice suddenly became soft. "Another second in the sunlight and you would have been on fire..."

"Is he alright?" A cold, dulcet voiced asked from atop the stairs.

"He's fine. Got a little dose of sun but he'll be alright."

"I see. Bring him back to the guest room, then."

His small body lifted into the black haired man's powerful arms, Alec reached out and clung desperately to the man's powerful body that carried him up the stairs and to the room he'd been in earlier. His body, cradled so lovingly, was lay down in the bed. The burning on his skin dying down, Alec took a moment to gaze at the nape of the man's neck as their bodies pressed together when he was lay down. The wound was closed, yet there was still fresh blood trickling downhis neck.

Alec wasn't sure why it looked so tasty.

"What's going on?" Alec half sobbed, still unsure of why the sun had burned him like a fire.

"W-Well...it's complicated..." The black haired one leaned up, seeming unfazed by his own nudity as he scratched his head in thought.

"What happened last night?" Alec knew his composure was breaking. But, he'd had his throat torn out, and he woke up to a man being bitten in the neck, yet now had no bite wound.

"Last night? Bud, you've been asleep for the last two weeks."

"What!?"

"Don't freak out. That's perfectly normal for someone who's gone what you've been through." Alec was taken aback by how casually the black haired man took everything. "By the way, I'm Ashe."

"A-Ashe?"

"Yeah, what's your name?"

"Why did the sun burn me?" He added strength to his tone.

"Because, I turned you." Alec turned his gaze up to the man at the door, the porcelain haired man having the decency to put on pants, yet leaving his broad, creamy chest bare save for the white trickles of hair hanging over his shoulders as delicately as they hung in narrow strips over his stunning golden eyes.

"Snow! For fucks sake, don't just drop that on him!"

"What? He deserves to know, Ashe." His tone, this man Ashe called snow, was so cold and indifferent. It was so different from Ashe's rash voice. Alec was quickly remembering them as the voices he heard when he was attacked.

But he found Snow's word choice to be odd. "W-Wait...what do you mean turned?"

The white haired Snow fell silent, his golden eyes dulling. "I made a mistake."

"Snow!" Ashe barked.

"I apologize, little one. I made an uncharacteristically rash decision without asking you."

Alec felt anger swelling in his chest. Anger from his parent's kicking him out, and anger from the white haired man in front of him, seemingly incapable of giving any form of a straight answer. "What the fuck do you mean!? What did you do!?"

` "L-Look, um....Y-You were on the brink of death...a-a-and Snow turned you into a vampire to heal you."

Again, for the second time, time froze for Alec. All the anger, all the confusion, and all of the hurt just shattered. He laughed. Gut busting laughter, bending his body to press his face to his covered lap, hearing Ashe's clearly flustered mumbling as he laughed harder than he had in weeks.

"O-Okay...I stopped believing in vampires when I was five years old." He continued to laugh.

"Look, it's true." Ashe defended. "They ripped your throat out."

"I-I--" The laughter stopped. Ashe had him. He remembered one of them biting his neck. He remembered feeling his life slowly slipping away from him. And he remembered being told to drink something.

"T-Then...wait..." As ridiculous as it sounded, in some weird way, it made sense to Alec. "Then..."

"Some vampires are gluttonous fiends that prey on anyone and everyone. You were just in the wrong place at the wrong time." Snow sat on the bed next to Ashe. "I-I...I knew it was wrong to make such a rash decision without consultation but...I panicked."

"So...vampires...are real?"

"Well, they're not exactly like the numerous myth's surrounding them...but yeah...for better or for worse..." Ashe interjected.

"And...I'm...one of them..."

"Yes. Now, what is your name, little one?" Snow inquired, laying his hand over Alec's soothingly.

"It's Alec."

"I see. What were you doing out, so late at night?"

"I had been...kicked out of my parent's house. Last year of high school, too..." Alec's eyes cast downward, unable to gaze any longer into Snow's deep golden orbs. There was a certain terror to them, a certain power that intimidated Alec.

"Kicked out? Why?" Ashe inched in closer, trying to get Alec to look him in his own crimson depths.

"I'm gay." What did he have to lose? And besides, he'd walked in on the two of them fucking, he didn't think they would be repulsed by his sexuality.

"What? You were kicked out because of that!?"

"Y-Yes..."

"Tch, humans..." Snow growled.

"Well, hey. Since we're the ones who turned you, you can stay here for as long as you like. Besides, you'll need someone to teach you how to live as a vampire."

"Agreed. If you don't learn to feed yourself, you won't last long."

"W-Wait...vampires feed...as in blood?" Deep dread settled into the pit of Alec's stomach. It did explain why the blood, now trickling down Ashe's hard toned abdomen, looked terribly appetizing.

"Yes."

"As in...killing people."

"...Yes..."

"Forget it. I'm not going to kill anyone!" Alec defied.

"You're a ways from having to kill anyone. At your current state, a blood pack would likely last you a couple of months."

"Yeah, it's kinda like addiction." Ashe joined in. "A little can sustain you at first, but after a while you'll need two blood packs instead of one, then three, and eventually you'll need it from the source."

"I won't! I'm not going to kill anybody!" Although, as he spoke, he watched with avid fascination as crimson trailed down Ashe's hard abdomen. His mouth watered at the sight, and he withheld drool as he stared at his six pack.

"L-Look. It'll be an adjustment. And for what it's worth. We're sorry for just dropping this on you...but..." Ashe scratched his spiky black locks nervously. "...It was either that or let you die. We've never really come upon someone who was caught between life and death like you were and I...."

"That's enough Ashe. Come on, let's get him something to eat." Snow beckoned him.

"To eat?"

"Normal food. Vampires like food too, you know." Ashe beamed as he followed Snow out of the room.

A vampire. The two words swirled in Alec's brain. He still wasn't sure what to make of it all, and was convincing himself that this was all just one long elaborate dream, and any moment he would wake up back at his parent's house, and go to school all the while laughing with his friend about the dream, who was still blissfully unaware of Alec's sexuality.

But he knew it wasn't the case. He wasn't human anymore, and the only people he could rely on, were two strangers he barely knew the name of.
