Prologue
“Henry, please! We can work whatever you’re going through out! I love you, our age difference never bothered you before,” Charlotte sobbed from their bed as she watched him pack his clothes.
“ Charlotte, please don’t make this anymore difficult. This relationship…it will only cause problems in the future. Its for the best, really,” he said closing his bag up and facing her. He cringed at the sight of her red, tear-streaked face, he hated to hurt her but it really was for the best. He took her face in her hand and stroked her cheek with his thumb. She looked up at him with a pleading look that broke his heart,” I thought you loved me”. “I do, love”, he said quietly running his fingers through her hair. She rested her head in his hand and let out a defeated sigh, “Than why are you doing this to me? To us?,”. He bent down and pressed her kiss to her forehead, “ Because it’s necessary”.
She pulled away from him and stood abruptly, she felt some of her sadness be replaced by anger. “Don’t I have a say in what is necessary? After all, this affects my life also,” she shouted. All of her emotions were beginning to become muddled, she felt so helpless and confused. When did Henry come up with the idea to leaver her? Why was he so convinced it was necessary?
“Charlotte, please don’t act like this,” he said carrying his bags to the door. He had never her seen her like this, she was so independent. Maybe it was another sign that their relationship was not a healthy one.
“You haven’t answered my question! We are both adults shouldn’t we talk about this together! I have a right to act like this! The man I love, who claimed to love me, is leaving me and can’t even give me an explanation as to why,” she said following him to the door.
Henry felt his heart break even more, but he must keep his resolve. He looked into her eyes, which were filled with so many tears and so much emotion. “ I do love you Charlotte. Please believe that I do. But I must leave, its for the best” he said. He walked up to her and pressed her lips to hers, feeling her in his arms one final time. Than he gathered his resolve picked up his bags and walked out of the door.
Charlotte was in a shock, he told her he loved her, than drew her in his arms and kissed her, than he walked out of the door. She knew he wasn’t coming back, she just wished she could understand. She felt a deep aching in her chest and drew a hand to her breast. She could feel her heart breaking…into a thousand pieces like the most delicate of crystal structures. The tears which she could hardly hold back before erupted from her eyes like a damn had let loose. She collapsed to the ground and started to sob. He had left her, the only man that she had ever loved as much as she loved him. The only man she would have willingly given everything too and he left her.
One Month & A Half Months Later
Henry walked into his house and threw the keys down on the console…looking at his phone he saw four messages blinking on his machine. He already knew who they were from. Charlotte had recently taken to calling him everyday for the past two weeks. He would not call her back, it was best for her if he isolated himself completely. He deleted the messages with a touch of his finger and sighed. Their break-up had not been the easiest for him. Deep in thought, he headed for his office for a nice glass of scotch.
Charlotte sat on her bed staring out of the windows in front of her. She had certainly gotten herself into an unfortunate predicament. After Henry left her, she began to feel out of sorts for a few days and she looked past it, believing it was due to the stress of the break up. However, when those days turned to weeks, she made an appointment to see a doctor. Dr. Morrigan happily informed her that she was to be a mother in six months time.
She spent the next day in a daze. She didn’t know what to think. She was still in college, her job wasn’t enough to support both a baby and her. And the father wasn’t around. She called Henry dozens of times, but all she got was his voicemail and never a call back. She gave up hope that he would call her and she made herself get over the silly notion that he might still care.
After all, she now had a baby to think about and she would be damned if she was unsuccessful in raising her child.
A/N: Ive had this plotline for ages and all of the sudden a wonderful muse visited me. I hope you enjoy. Painful Deception is still going and I hope you enjoy this one as much as PD. Please dont expect regular updates, because Im quote busy sorry.
I hope you enjoy this!
