Title - Captivated
Chapter One - 16/9/07

"Flight 416 is now boarding," a female voice read over the PA system.

In the airport cafe sat a man named Conner McKinley. Conner was a 20 year old American from California with golden blonde hair and bright blue eyes. Conner was a college student deeply interested in all aspects of Japan: the food, the history, the schooling, the nature and the people who lived there. He'd been interested in Japan since grade 7 and had always wanted to go there one day and finally, 7 years after he made that goal, he was going to go to Japan to study.

Hearing the announcement over the PA system Conner emptied his coffee and grabbed a hold of his blue and green carry bag. Smiling at the waiter who he'd been talking to previously Conner headed off to gate 9 for his flight. The doors to the gate were already open and people were walking through them. Joining the crowd he walked down the stairs and along the long passage until he reached the door to the plain. Looking down he saw the smallest crack between the passage and the entrance to the plan which let in light and smiled; it would've made for a good picture if he'd had time to take it.

Once on board he showed his ticket to one of the stewardesses who kindly pointed out his set to him. It was a window seat in second class near the center of that particular section of the plane. Sitting down he found it very comfy and nice. He'd never had a fear of flying or heights before so looking out the window to gaze at the clouds and the cities below had never bothered him.

Conner had flown twice before, once to Paris with his parents when he was 7 and another to Australia when he was 15 with some fiends. Bother trips had been exciting and adventurous. Conner was hoping that this trip would be as good, maybe even better seeing as it was the place he'd wanted to go to for years. Finally he wouldn't have to refer back to things that he's read and seen in books, he could actually recall real things now and it would make a nice story to tell his future children, if he had any, about.

Marriage was something Conner had always wanted but he'd never found the right girl. He'd had girlfriends before but it had never worked out. Relationships had never been his thing. It was just so weird being with a girl. He'd wondered if it had been the same with his friends but he'd never had the guts to ask as they all had good relationships; one was even newly married.

Looking around Conner found that all the seats where filling up very fast. He was now completely surrounded by people except for the seat right next to him. No one was sitting next to him and that made Conner begin to think. What if it was a pretty girl that was going to sit next to him? What if she tried to talk to him? What would he say? Conner knew if he tried to speak he would probably screw things up, he wasn't very good with small talk.

Forgetting his current train of thought Conner looked ahead. In the seat in front of him was a woman with a baby lying over her shoulder with a dummy in its mouth. The baby was awake and the woman was obviously trying to get the baby to sleep. It was a cute baby, of course Conner thought all babies were cute, but this one had a small tuft of brown hair on it's head and beautiful bright green eyes. Suddenly the baby started to get grumpy and it spat it's dummy onto Conner's mouth and started to cry which was immediately followed by the mother's coe's. Picking up the dummy he stood up and walked to the seat in front and showed the woman the dummy.

"You're baby dropped this," he said with a smile and handed it to her.

"Thank you," she said and put it back in the baby's mouth as it had started to calm down.

Conner returned back to his seat and waited patiently for everyone to sit down on the plane so the pilot and all necessary airport crew could begin the take off procedures.
Conner looked around again and saw a man of about 30 and 5ft 10" with short brown unruly hair and a briefcase heading towards him. He wore a long black trench coat that was buttoned up and black pants. Conner continued to stare at the man until he stopped at the seat right next to Conner. Without even looking at Conner he put his suitcase in the luggage compartment and then sat down.

The man had beautiful honey brown eyes with a small tinge of yellow in each. Conner had never seen such a color in someone's eye before. Without even realizing that he had begun to stare again the man next to him turned to look at Conner and smiled. Seeing him turn around to look at him Conner blushed and quickly moved his gaze down to his lap.

"Hello, I'm Jonas Fortright," he said smiling and outstretched his hand.

"Er, Conner McKinley," he replied and shook Jonas's hand.

"Everyone please fasten your seatbelts, we're preparing to take off," came the announcement from the pilot.

"First flight?" Jonas asked as he fastened his seat belt smiling at Conner.

"No. It's my third actually.

"Ow ok, I only asked because you looked nervous," Jonas explained.

Hearing the statement Conner was shocked but hid it. Was it really that obvious that he was nervous? At least the man hadn't come to the conclusion that it was him who was making him nervous and not the plane. Interlocking his fingers Conner held his hands in his lap. An awkward silence broke over the two as the plane took flight and was now gliding over the clouds.

"So why are you going to Japan, if you don't mind me asking?” Conner asked trying to get their conversation going again.

"I'm going on a business trip. I’m going to propose a new trade with the Osaka Woodland Corporation; nothing particularly interesting to talk about and yourself?"

"I've been interested in Japan since I was 13 but I've never had a chance to go until now. I'm a college student and I'm going to Japan to study for a few months."

"Sounds like fun. I've been a few times."

The plane had landed and everyone one was now leaving the plane. Conner waited for the majority of people to leave before getting up out of his chair as it would make it much easier. Apparently Jonas had the same idea as he was also still seated and not making any attempt to join the rush of people exiting the plane.

Finally the there was enough empty space for Jonas and Conner to get up and so they did. Walking together they exited the plane and walked into the airport. "I've got another plane to catch, so I'll see you later sometime," Jonas said and shook Conner's hand again.

"Goodbye."

The two went their separate ways Conner heading for the luggage bay and Jonas heading for the ticket deck.

Conner couldn't believe it; he was finally in Japan. Already he found the place beautiful and amazing. The air was cleaner, the grass was greener and everywhere he looked there were trees with different colored flowers blooming; his favorite was the cherry blossoms.

Walking along a pathway he heard his stomach growl and decided that he would get something to eat. Nearby was a small shop that sold various different types of sushi in take away containers. Conner brought some sushi and paid the boy who worked there before continuing on the footpath. After a 20 minute walk and after he'd finished off his sushi Conner came to his destination; a car yard that loaned cars. He'd used the internet back at home to book and pay for a loan car here on his trip through Japan.

Walking into the car yard Conner entered the buildings and went straight to the front desk to be greeted by a short Japanese woman with bright orange hair. "How may I help you?"

"My name is Conner McKinley; I booked a rent-a-car a few days again over the internet."

Immediately the woman started to type very fast on her computer looking for his booking. "Ah yes here it is. Please wait a moment and I shall go get you your keys. The car is just outside in parking bay 7."

The lady walked over to a glass cupboard and unlocked. She reached inside and pulled out a set of car keys then walked back over to Conner and handed them to him. "Here you go."

"Thank you."

Conner headed back outside and looked up at the sky it was beginning to rain so he hurried into the car. The clouds were now black and the rain came down in fat drops in a very fast manner. The roads began slippery quickly and vision was very difficult. Conner could only see a few meters ahead of himself but that didn't stop him. He was on open road and there wasn't a car for ages. There was no way he was going to crash into someone else's car.

The hotel he had chosen to stay at was in the countryside where the scenery was most beautiful and he wouldn't be disturbed by all the ruckus of the city traffic. Conner was hoping that the weather would be better tomorrow so he could go explore this beautiful place.

The weather was getting even worse but Conner was sure he must be close to the hotel soon. Not worrying about the conditions in Conner reached down to turn on the radio system of the car, taking his eyes off the road for a few moments, when he begun to lose control of the car. Immediately sitting upright and trying to get control back it was already too late. The car spun in a circle on the road letting sparks fly everywhere.

Conner rammed him foot into the brakes which, instead of stopping the car, just burnt the rubber on the tires. Conner was confused and lost inside the car; he didn't know what to do. Thinking he was going to die tears begun to slide down his face as the car slid off the road and went down the side of the hill until it hit a tree which made the airbags pop out; the airbags hit Conner in the face causing him to backout. If one were to see the car now all they would see was the smashed and broken remains of the car, they wouldn't see Conner, hidden in the front seat slumped up against the seat, steering wheel and airbag.

Nearby the crash site was a house, a beautiful, tall, secluded house. The hotel that Conner had been aiming for was ages away as he had gone the wrong way when leaving the car yard. Instead now his only hope was the fact that there was someone in that house; someone who hadn't had a visitor in a long time.
