Quick Decision!

She looked around her once more and she saw nothing. The same old scenery she'd seen since she came here four years ago. He was inside sleeping and she couldn't figure out why she was still here. He didn't seem happy with her; ever. There was nothing for her here. Not anymore. Her mind was made up.
She ran inside and scrambled through the hallway closet, not trying to be quiet. She knew this was where he kept the suitcase, right beside his coat. He was too predictable. He loved everything in order and had a routine. She didn't know how to live like that. There were no whims that he went on, no spur of the moment shopping sprees, no sudden dinners that he hadn't planned. He was boring; a good man, but boring.

She ran to her closet and grabbed as many clothes that she could stuff into the case and still zip it shut. She couldn't stay here one more second. Her shoes slid on her feet with no trouble at all. She grabbed her cell phone but left the charger. She could change her number later. The door slammed behind her, she didn't bother to turn and lock it. Good riddens to it all! She climbed in her car and fired it up. She didn't know where she was going, but she had to get somewhere. The interstate exit came up and she went with it. South. She had friends in her hometown, they would take her in.

She drove all night until she couldn't keep her eyes open anymore. She decided to take the next exit and find a hotel or something and sleep the day away and drive more after she ate something. The pink from the sun was already leaking into the clouds. He would be waking up soon. Her hand automatically reached for her phone and shut it off. She wouldn't be able to tell him that she left and she wasn't coming back.

The motel room she got was drab but she didn't care it was away from him. It was away from everything. She grabbed a towel and turned on the shower. As the hot water hit her shoulders she was struck with sudden grief. How could she just leave like that? How on earth could she hurt him this way? Before she knew it, tears were streaking down her face. She didn't know how long she had cried when she finally turned off the water and went to bed. It was going to be a long day.
