the park
The other story I was writing with the previous name. I had no idea what direction it was going to take. I decided to get rid of it and start a new one with the same name.. Hope you enjoy. R&R please.

Prologue
It was a cold, dark night and I was walking home from a late shift at work. It was supposed to be spring, but you couldn’t tell because of the cold weather recently. There was even some snow and a bit of ice that lay on the city streets. Personally I wouldn’t be walking through the park at this time of night, because of the creeps or muggers walking around looking for their next victim.
At the moment I didn’t have a choice if I wanted to get enough sleep for my classes in the morning. I walked along the paved pathway that was dimly lit by the street lamps along the side of the path. I felt a bit of relief as I saw the exit of the park; then I noticed a figure lying on the bench. ‘It’s just a homeless person…’ I thought. As I neared, the sleeping person turned out to be a boy that was half-naked on the bench with just a pair of jeans on him that clung loosely to his frame. I ran up and attempted to wake the unconscious boy.
“Hey! Hey kid! Wake up!” I yelled, as I shook his shoulder. He just laid there curled in a ball trying to stay warm. I examined his body and could see bruises on his arms, chest and back. The boy seemed to be at least sixteen. I glanced over his face and saw that his lips were turning a faint blue. The feeling of panic and anxiety washed over me. I quickly fished out my cell phone from my coat and dialed 9-1-1.
“I need an ambulance. I found an unconscious boy on a park bench. His lips are turning blue. The address… I am in Yellow Leaf Park, near the east exit on Victoria Street.”
I hung up the phone after giving the operator the address. I took my jacket off and wrapped it around the boy’s small frame. I pulled him into my arms to warm him up more. The cold wind brushed against my exposed flesh as I sat there listening to the boy’s shivering breathing. “Everything is going to be ok. Hang in there, help is on its way,” I whispered to the shivering boy in my arms. Thirty-five minutes passed; then sirens could be heard in the distance.
“You are going to be ok.”
