SEASON 1
EPISODE 1
Part 1
Amanda awoke to the sound of a laugh. Amanda is Puerto Rican. She is 18 years old. She got up and sat on the edge of her bed. She stared at her bedroom door. “What the fuck.” She looked over at her digital clock and it read 8:00 AM. She wiped her eyes, got up from her bed and made her way to her bedroom door. Amanda was never a morning person. So as she walked down the corridor she was prepared to curse out the people who woke her up out of her beauty sleep. When she reached the living room there was her older sister, Melinda (29) and her nephew Thomas. There was also a tall slender woman there but she could not see the woman’s face since the woman’s back was to her. “What the hell is going on in here?” Amanda asked. Then the tall woman turned around. “Hello Amanda.” The woman spoke. Amanda blinked a couple of times as if she was in a dream. “MOM?”
“Yo my dude bring your ass to the basketball court.” David screamed on the phone. David is African American and he is 19 years old. “I cant this morning. My mom needs me to do something’s for her.” Carl told David. Carl is Caucasian and is 18 years old. “Tell her you’re busy today. We always play ball on Mondays.” David fiddled with a pencil that lay on his computer desk. “I wish I could man. But she needs me.” David threw the pencil at the door and smiled as the point went into the door and the pencil stood there. “Iight my dude. I’ll call you later then.” David hung up. He made his way out his room to the living room. There on the sofa with a bottle of Hennesy was his stepfather. Drooling with his hands down his pants. David hated that his mother married such a loser. Someone that never does anything but drink and complain that the house is dirty. “Good morning honey.” David’s mom called out. “Hey mom. Why is Derrick drunk again?” His mom looked at Derrick and shrugged her shoulder. “Well I’m going out. I’m going to the basketball court to practice. I love you.” David kissed his mom and left. Stephanie (David’s mom) stood there staring at Derrick,
“Well hello everyone. I’m glad you could all make it here today. I understand that you all have problems. I understand that you wanted help and this is the first step to getting help. Coming to this meeting shows YOURSELF and me you want help. So I will try to help all of you.” The fat bald headed man made his announcement. Brian stood up. Brian is Puerto Rican and is 19 years old. “Hello everyone. My name is Brian and I tried to commit suicide last month.” Brian stood there looking at these strangers. People that were just like him. People who tried to commit suicide for one reason or another. Brian looked down at the floor and sat back down. After the session Brian made his way to the bathroom. He walked slowly. He never thought he would get the courage to actually admit that to people other then his close friends. He felt proud of himself. Just then he felt a hand grip his shoulder. He turned around and there was a tall Caucasian boy. “I’m sorry to bother you put I wanted to introduce myself.” Brian stopped him before he could say his name. “Yeah you’re Liam. I remember it from where you introduced yourself.” Liam smiled at him. “Wow good memory.” Brian smiled back. “Yeah my memory is good, sometimes too good. So where u heading to Liam?” Liam looked down at his wrist and began to scratch. Brian looked down as well. “The scratches are fresh I see Liam. They just healing ain’t they?” Liam nodded a yes. “Would you like to come with me to Starbucks and have a coffee or something? Maybe we can help each other out.” Liam smiled and nodded another yes.
Theresa walked through Central Park. She walked to the sounds of Beyonce’s “Ring the alarm” blasting in her ear. She Theresa is African American and is 19 years old. She the felt her cell phone vibrate. She paused her IPOD and answered her phone. “Yes how can I help you?” Theresa waited for an answer. “Why do you always answer your phone like that?” Carl asked her. “Is that any of your business? What is it?” Theresa sat on a near by bench. “I was wondering if you wanted to go shopping for a gift for David? Christmas is coming you know. 24 more days. Your man and my best friend needs something good.” Theresa smiled. Her and David have been together for 2 years. She was so in love with him. “I can’t right now I have something really important to do before I make my way to work.” Theresa looked at her watch and noticed she only had 2 hours before she had to be at work. “O.K. that’s cools. If you want me to come with you to pick up his gift let me know. I’m going to call Brain and see how his group went. I’ll speak to you later.” Theresa said good bye and hung up. She got up from that dirty bench wiped her pants and began to walk again. She finally reached her destination. She looked at the tall building and made her way into the building. Theresa walked over to the receptionist and stood there before saying anything. “I’m here for my test.” The lady asked her for her name. “Theresa Brown.” The lady looked through her computer and found her name. “You’re right on time. Take this chart and take it into room 215 on the second floor.” Theresa smiled and felt a knot in her stomach. The results of that test could change her life forever.
“Oh my goodness Amanda you grew so fast.” Amanda’s eyes filled with tears but you could also see the anger in her eyes as well. “No mom I grew up slowly. That’s what happens when you leave us for 3 years.” Her mother looked at her and smiled. “I know I was wrong for leaving but you don’t know why I left.”
“Well mom I don’t give a shit either. So what are you doing here?” Melinda looked at her younger sister and knew that there was going to be drama. So she butt in.
“Why don’t we have a family breakfast now that mom is back.” Amanda looked over at Melinda. “You have to be fucking kidding me.”
“Watch your mouth young lady.” Her mother told her.
“How dare you tell me what to do. You haven’t been here for 3 years. You forced Melinda to have to support us. I had to drop out of school to get a minimum wage job to try to help around here. I have to wear clothes that I had 4 years ago. Do you know how that feels when you have people looking at you like you’re a weirdo? NO you don’t.” Melinda picked up Thomas out of his high chair and took him to her room.
“I’m sorry for the pain that I caused you and Melinda. I was dumb. I was stupid. That’s why I’m back. I want to make things right between all of us.”
“Well mother dearest that is too long over due. So I’m going to get dressed and I’m going to chill with some people. Some people that REALLY care about me.” Amanda walked away leaving her mother there crying. Melinda came back into the living room and hugged her mother. “After all that I have done for that girl this is the way she treats me? If only she knew the truth she would appreciate me.”
“Mom we can’t tell Amanda anything. It would devastate her right now. Christmas is coming. So let’s keep that secret between us for now.”
“Can I please have a hot coffee with milk and 3 sugars? Oh yeah can I also have a black and white cookie? Liam what do you want, my treat.” Liam looked at Brian and was shocked that someone could befriend him so quickly. People usually thought he was weird. “Nothing for me.” Liam walked away and sat at a table. Brian looked at Liam as he sat there with his head down staring at the cut on his wrist. Brian took his coffee and cookie and made his way over to Liam. “So Liam tell me about yourself.” Brian said as he sat down. Liam looked at him. “Are you sure you want to know about me? You might not want to talk to me ever again after you know.”
“Nonsense I will still be your friend. Unless you tell me you’re some kind of serial killer.” Liam laughed. “There goes the happy smile and not the nervous one.” Liam pulled his chair closer and whispered to Brian. “Can I tell you something important? A secret that usually makes me lose all my close friends?” Brian now began to feel a little nervous. “Sure man. You can tell me anything.” Liam whispered his secret and Brian’s eyes widened.
David was bouncing the basketball around the court. Running back and forth in the cold weather. “Hey David.” He heard a girl’s voice call for him. He turned around and there making her way over to him was Kimberly. Kimberly is Dominican and she is 19 years old. “Hey Kimberly what’s up? Did you call you’re boyfriend Brian?” Kimberly hugged him. “No not yet. I hope his group went well. I miss him.” Kimberly and Brian haven’t been together as long as David and Theresa. They have been together for only 6 months but Kimberly believed that Brian was sent for her. “Yeah I hope it helps him. He is such a great person.” David said. Kimberly grabbed the ball out of his hands and threw it into the hoop. “So where is Carl? Why isn’t he here with you?” She asked him. He explained that Carl’s mother needed him to do her a favor. “Well you know that he has always been a mama’s boy since his father mysteriously disappeared. She has been devastated since hat day. So we know that she goes through her motions.” David smiled. “Yeah I know. I just wish he would help her to see that maybe he didn’t deserve her. If a man could just leave his wife like after 14 years of marriage she needs someone better then that.” David threw the ball and missed. He knew things that the rest of the group didn’t know and he had to keep those things a secret.
Carl walked around Times Square going from store to store looking for a gift for his best friend David. They have been friends since they were little. Carl worshipped David’s friendship cause he was there through all his hard times with his family. Carl walked past a store and there in the window was a photo, a photo of his father. He stared at it and tears filled his eyes. MISSING was the caption above the photo. Carl tore the picture down and ripped it up. He threw the pieces in a near by trash and wiped his eyes. “Rot in hell you bastard.”
Brian sat on his bed. Liam had things to do so Brian made his way back home. He had things he had to do as well. Just then his bedroom phone rang. He looked at the caller ID before answering. “Hey there Amanda what’s up?”
“I have to leave this damn house. Can we get the group together tonight at your house?”
“Sure. What’s the problem?”
“I’ll tell you later tonight. 8 PM sounds all right?”
“Sure.” Brian replied.
“So I’ll see you later Brian. Call my cell I’m going to be out shopping for the decorations for the annual Christmas party. Later.” Amanda hung up. Brian hung up the phone. He got up from his bed and made his way over to his dresser. There in the mirror he saw not only himself but also a woman, a woman that was not even really there.
“You’re not here. Just go away I’m trying to get help because of you. I’m trying to get better.”
“You know that Liam boy is going to cause trouble in your life. That secret was deep. I can see it now, poor Brian falling apart again because of him. Throw away his number and leave that boy be. Don’t get too close. DON’T.” The woman told him.
“You’re wrong. He’s a cool person and he needs help. Help from someone that has tried to kill himself as well. We’re going to help each other. And why should I believe you anyway? I did something bad to you.”
“I do hate you but I don’t want to see your life wind up in disaster and trust me this Liam boy has more secrets that you don’t know about. God is showing me your future. GET RID OF HIM NOW.” Brian wiped his eyes and the woman was gone.
