Football and Highschool love

Chapter 1

Blake sighed as he walked across the lawn of his new home. He took one of his pale, thin hands and brushed aside dark black locks, out of his violet eyes. He titled his head up as he looked up at the sky. “I miss you Grandma.” He whispered to the night sky. Tomorrow was going to be a long day, and Blake wasn’t looking forward to it at all.

It was a Monday morning and everything was a mess. Lucas grabbed his books from inside his locker and headed to his first hour. He had creative writing first hour and he wasn’t too fond of it. He had football practice after school and he just wanted to get through the school day and get to practice.

Miss Nelson came into the room with a handful of books. They had been studying romance novels and poetry. Lucas wasn’t one for those that went wild over Romeo and Juliet. Hell, he was the captain of the Johnsonville football team. He wasn’t supposed to like romance novels and things like that.

Miss Nelson was about to start class when there was a knock on the door. Soon Carmen Lezin came in. Her blond hair bouncing after her and her pearly white smile on her face. She practically bounced up to Miss Nelson’s desk.

No one seemed to notice the thin, pale person that came in behind her; except Lucas. Lucas watched as he followed Carmen to the front of the classroom. Lucas took time to look at the new figure.

Black locks framed the pale face. The boy had his hair long in the front and short and spiky in the back. Deep red highlights ran through the black hair. Lucas couldn’t tell what color his eyes were until he suddenly turned his gaze to scan the class.

Violet eyes swept across the class and the faces of the class he was currently in. His gaze stopped as he saw someone staring at him. The boy had short brown, spiked hair with blond tips. Chocolate brown eyes gazed into his deep purple eyes. Blake gave the guy a glare and then turned his attention back to the blond that was chatting with the teacher.

Carmen turned back around and gave him a wide smile and bounced out of the room. Miss Nelson turned her attention to him and then to the class. “Class we have a new student. This is Blake Kelton from New York. Tell us some things about yourself.” Miss Nelson suggested.

Blake swept his gaze across the class again, as if testing his waters. “No thanks.” He replied without emotion. Miss Nelson nodded as if accepting defeat of getting any information from her new student. She saw the only empty desk and sighed. “You’ll be sitting next to Lucas. Lucas please raise your hand.” She said. Lucas raised his hand to catch Blake’s eye.

Blake caught sighed of the raised hand and headed toward the empty seat next to him. Once he sat down he turned his attention to the front of the room and tried to ignore the stares he was getting from some of the people around the classroom.

Lucas continued to take in Blake’s appearance. The deep red highlights set off vivid purple of his eyes. The slender fingers wrapped themselves around the pencil. Lucas finally pried his eyes away from Blake and back to Miss Nelson.

The rest of the day went fine as far as Lucas was concerned. He made it through the day and started to head down to the locker rooms to change for practice. He got out on the field and waited for the rest of the team. He flickered his gaze up to the stands and caught sight of Blake Kelton.

Blake was bored out of his skull. His headphones blasting music into his ears while he had a notebook and a pen. He looked down and saw the rest of the football team file out from the locker room. He sighed and then turned back to his writing.

Coach Kelton was one of the best coaches they had had, ever. He used to play professional football until an injury ended his career. He had been well known through out college and was wanted by amazing schools to coach their teams, but he had chosen Johnsonville of all places. Then a stocky, well built guy came out of the locker room right behind him.

Coach Kelton let his gaze linger on everyone of them. Then he decided to have a little introduction. “Boys, this is my eldest son Jason. He’s gonna help us train this season.” He told them. Coach Kelton wanted Johnsonville to go to state this year and he was going to make sure of it.

Lucas looked at Jason and then up at Blake and noticed there was a define difference between the two brothers. Lucas turned his gaze back to Coach Kelton and listened as he explained what they were going to do during practice.

Practice was fairly simple and his body felt better to have stretched them. A bunch of the guys were going down to the local dinner afterwards, but Lucas just wanted to go home. His mom was sick and she needed him home. He packed his gear and stuff into the bed of his truck. He smiled at a cheerleader, miss Betty Lou Hanse, and started up his truck and headed home.

Almost all the lights were off when he got home twenty-five minutes later. He hopped out of his truck and headed into the house. He opened the door to find his mom sitting on the couch watching tv. She turned to him and gave him a soft, weak smile as she turned back to the tv.

Lucas continued through the house until he got to his room. He dropped his book bag onto his bed. He started his homework until it was six o’clock. He stopped making dinner when he heard a knock on the front door. When he opened it, he blinked in surprise.

Blake stood on the other side of the door. Lucas blinked as he stood there and watched the boy look up at him and blush. Just when Lucas was about to ask what he was doing at his house, Blake held up his hand and saw a small paper bag clutched between his boney fingers.

Blake saw how Lucas just looked at the bag in confusion so he decided to make the situation easier for both of them. “My mom said to bring this to your mom. This is her new medications.” Blake watched as Lucas processed the information. Blake really just wanted to drop off the medicine and go home.

Lucas suddenly snapped out of his mind strut and took the bag from Blake’s hand. Just as Blake began to walk away Lucas felt the worlds leave his throat before he could even think about the words. “Would you like to come in?” He asked.

Blake turned back around and blinked as he studied the boy in front of him. Here was the captain of the football team, their star player, asking him if he wanted to come into his home. “Sure.” He answered and turned back towards the house. Lucas moved out of the way as Blake stepped into the house.

Lucas watched as Blake looked around the entryway as he headed towards the living room. Lucas then noticed that his mom was still sitting on the couch while watching tv. She turned and smiled at them. Lucas then turned his attention to the boy beside him. Blake was a quiet person, he was beginning to notice.

Blake watched as the older woman tried to stand, so he hurried over and latched onto her arm and held onto her until he was sure that she was stable. She gave him a warm smile and then looked at Lucas. “Are you Dr. Kelton’s son?” She asked him turning back to Blake. Blake nodded to her as she let go of his arm.

Blake let go, watching her to make sure that she wouldn’t fall. His mother had told him of the woman’s illness. It now surprised him of how she could still have the after affects of her previous cancer. She could hardly move without shaking for her body’s attempt to support her.

Lucas watched as his mom walked into the kitchen. He saw Blake look around to take in the room. “Do you want to watch some tv?” He asked. Blake turned his attention to Lucas and gave him a slight smile and then nodded.

They spent quite a bit of time just sitting there doing nothing while they watched a tv movie, only making a few comments on the movie. They sat in companionable silence until the movie was rolling its credits.

Blake got up and headed to the door, but stopped when he heard Lucas speak behind him. “I’ll see ya at school then?” Lucas questioned. Blake turned to him and nodded and then headed out the door. Blake couldn’t help the feeling mad that they wouldn’t talk at school or act like they had any interaction outside of their classes. It wasn’t a welcoming feeling.
