Chapter 1: The Sentinel of Justice

Atlas City
Even from several blocks away, the windows of the glittering, modern looking skyscrapers rattled from the sheer force of their blows. Captain Ultra was engaged in a fierce battle with Killzone- one his arch enemies. The artificially intelligent android had grown even stronger since it had somehow managed to rebuild itself. It had an annoying habit of doing that. Still, he wondered why Killzone had decided to start tearing up a seemingly random part of the city.
The eight foot metal behemoth connected with a right cross the size of a Volkswagen that sent Captain Ultra crashing into a building that was still under construction. The force of the blow brought the whole thing down; metal girders, concrete and all on top of the superhero with a ground shaking thud. He recovered almost immediately, however, bursting free from the debris without so much as a scratch on him.
“Alright that’s it, tin man. This time I’m going to make sure there isn’t enough left of you to fit in a dust pan.” He rocketed through the air toward his opponent with both fists out in front. A brilliant, glowing blue aura suddenly engulfed his entire body at his mental command. When he had a sufficient amount of energy charged up, the Captain channeled it through his fists sending a force blast that knocked Killzone off his feet. The android cut a deep swath through the pavement as it tumbled end over end down the street.
The Sentinel of Justice knew he had to end this fight now before the collateral damage went beyond unoccupied buildings and empty streets. He caught up to Killzone just as it regained its footing and the two of them locked hands in a grapple hold with neither giving an inch. Bone and sinew strained against metal and bolts.
“I’m stronger than you are now,” the machine declared in a tinny, electronic sounding voice.
“Almost,” Captain Ultra responded through clenched teeth. He flexed every muscle in his well built frame as sweat dripped down his face. With a tremendous effort he pulled with all his might, ripping Killzone’s giant, bulky arms off in the process.
“No! It isn’t possible!” the robot shouted in disbelief. Exposed wires and circuits sparked and crackled as it staggered backwards. “I am perfection. I am more than any flesh being can ever be! I am--”
A tremendous sound of metal crashing against metal cut Killzone off. Captain Ultra used one of the discarded arms, swinging it overhead like a club, to crush the villain into a useless and unrecognizable heap. He had just about finished when he heard a tiny scream pierce the air. Throwing the arm down on the pile of bent scrap that used to be Killzone, he listened again and faintly heard a cry for help. This time he was sure it was coming from somewhere under the rubble of the building that had been brought down during the fight.
The thought of someone being hurt, in part because of him, gnawed at Captain Ultra as he carefully sifted through the rubble. He hefted several large chunks of brick and concrete while trying to follow the sound of the voice. Then he found her. It was a little girl, probably no more than eleven or twelve years old, huddled between two of the outer walls. The only thing that had spared her from being crushed was the fact that the wall above her had landed at an angle leaving just enough space in between.
“It’s going to be alright,” Captain Ultra reassured her.
He removed the obstructions quickly but with great care before reaching his hand out to the young girl. “Grab my hand. I’ll get you to safety.”
Ultra scooped her up in his arms and flew back to the street before setting her down.
“Thanks for saving me.” The girl smiled looking up at the superhero.
“I’m just glad you’re alright. I’d better get you to a hospital just to be sure though.”
“Oh, I don’t think that’ll be necessary. You’re the one who’s going to need a trip to the hospital,” she said suddenly vanishing into thin air.
Before he could react, Captain Ultra felt a huge burst of heat on his right side as a crimson beam of energy uprooted him right off his feet. The next thing he knew he was at the other end of the street peeling himself out of the remains of a parked minivan he had landed on. The vehicle had practically been split in two by the impact.
He tried to shake it off, but something just didn’t feel right. Normally a blow like that would barely faze him. Captain Ultra didn’t have much time to ponder it though, as long whip ,seemingly out of nowhere, wrapped tightly around his throat and another snaked around his waist.
“Enjoy that last bit of your invulnerability, Captain! The Nullifier Beam that just struck you is stripping you of your super powers as I speak.” An oddly familiar woman’s voice warned him through the ringing in his ears.
It was none other than Lady Lash. A stunning, 5’9" whip-wielding super villainess he had encountered many times in the past. Dressed in thigh-high stiletto boots and a black leather corset that displayed her ample cleavage, she looked very much like a dominatrix. Captain Ultra barely had time to process her words when highly charged, electricity-like energy began running through both whips she had ensnared around him.
“Gyyaahh!” he cried in pain as her deadly weapons did their damage. The dark blue colored “electricity” coursed through and played over his 6’3” chiseled physique.
“That’s right. Beg for mercy, hero” Lady Lash smiled. “You always were such a fool. Killzone was merely a distraction to lure you out in the open and to soften you up for us. Ladies, continue the attack!”
Two more women revealed themselves, forming a circle around him. “Conjure. Arista.” he shouted, struggling against the pain. “Y-you’re…aaaghh…in on this too?”
“Your power of deduction is as keen as ever, Captain” said Conjure, her tight blue dress blowing in the wind. A very generous slit up the side of it revealed black fishnets adorning her shapely legs.
Captain Ultra knew he had to act fast before his invulnerability and the rest of his powers were totally depleted. But as he tried to move his arms, a glowing yellow ring suddenly materialized around him restraining his arms to his sides. The attractive, red haired sorceress slowly closed her outstretched hands together, causing the glowing ring to tighten even more. “Did you enjoy my little illusion spell earlier?” she asked. “You fell for it hook, line, and sinker.”
Of course. The little girl he had rescued earlier was nothing more than one of Conjure’s tricks. He would have to be more careful and prepared next time. If there was a next time.
Captain Ultra fought with every ounce of strength in him, but he was almost completely immobilized now and the searing pain wasn’t helping matters. Just when he thought the horrible situation couldn’t get any worse, the third woman decided to join in.
Arista, the powerful auburn haired warrior woman’s beauty was matched only by her cruelty. Her revealing “armor” showed off her goddess-like body, although since she was practically invulnerable it was more just for show. She unsheathed her magically imbued sword and unleashed a stream of purple, mystic bolts from the tip of the blade, striking Ultra directly in the chest.
“I almost feel sorry for you,” she stated dryly. “After all our encounters, you are defeated not in a glorious battle, but in a sorry, quiet whimper. The one thing your utter defeat will accomplish though, is demonstrating the Sisterhood’s unstoppable might.”
“Aaaaghh!!” Captain Ultra was barely cognizant of her words. He arched his back, screaming in complete agony as he felt the full brunt of the combined assault.
Lady Lash, Conjure, and Arista smiled triumphantly at the dazzling, light show caused from their attack. “At last!” Lady Lash threw her head back in laughter. “In a few more moments Atlas City’s greatest hero will be destroyed!”
