My Body is Your Body
Hello, hello. It's been a long time since I've been here, but now that AFF is back on its feet I'm over joyed. Okay so some of you might remember this story. It was a Yu Yu Hakusho fanfic, but I have moved away from writing fanfictions so I have rewritten this story to make it completely original. In doing so I think it is much better than before and I hope you will like it. Enjoy!

[Sayanto Mental Institution, 8:00 pm]
Everything was quiet as the day began to wind down at the Sayanto Mental Institution. A doctor walked through one of the many hallways, passing by many heavily locked doors to padded rooms. He was making his last rounds for the day and the last patient he needed to check up on was a boy who had been checked in only the day before.
He lifted up his clipboard and flipped through the information of the patient. His name was Okashi Kaishou, sixteen years old, almost nearing seventeen. The doctor then looked at the picture that was attached to the information. In the photo a boy with a dazzling smile was looking back at him with very bright green eyes. His hair was a nice honey brown and almost brushed his shoulders. He looked like a normal teenager, but in the doctors’ line of work he knew appearances could be deceiving. He didn’t know much about his new patient except that he heard voices and was sometimes violent.
The doctor rounded a corner and saw his assistant nurse standing in front of one of the padded cell doors and looking into it. She heard his footsteps and turned to see who it was. When she saw him she smiled and waited for him to come up to her before addressing him.
“Hello, Doctor Irin, it’s good to see you,” she greeted happily.
“Hello, Sherry. So how is our patient doing?” he asked her. Her expression changed from happy to concern as she looked back into the room.
“He’s just been lying there and talking to himself for the pass three hours, maybe more,” she told him. Doctor Irin looked through the little window into the padded cell. The boy from the picture was lying on his back on the floor and a straightjacket was around him. He was looking up at the ceiling blankly and the doctor could see his mouth moving every so often.
“Why is he in a straightjacket?” the doctor asked and the nurse sighed sadly.
“After he was brought here he went crazy and tried to escape. He hurt three of the staff and two other patients. It took almost everyone we had on hand to subdue him,” she explained. The doctor’s eyebrow rose in surprise.
“Really? My he looks so calm and gentle. I must say that’s surprising.” Sherry nodded in agreement.
“I know, I went in there and talked to him this morning and he is a pure gentleman. He was so polite I couldn’t believe what I heard he did.”
“So who brought him in?” Dr. Irin then asked.
“His parents, they say this has been going on for almost two years now. They thought it was just a phase or something, but he seemed to be getting more violent as the years progressed,” she informed him.
“What made them decided to finally bring him in?”
“Apparently some boys at his school were bullying him and he snapped. Two of the boys had to be hospitalized.” Both the doctor’s eyebrows rose this time.
“Boy this does sound serious,” he murmured and the nurse nodded.
“They were going to charge him, but his parents told the authorities what had been happening so they decided to bring him here instead.” Their attention was brought back to the boy as he suddenly laughed at something.
“What exactly has he been saying to himself?” the doctor asked.
“Well, he’s not really talking to himself, it’s more like he’s talking to someone,” the nurse told him.
“Someone?”
“Yes, I’ve been listening to him for awhile and I’ve gathered he’s talking to one person and I think he said the name Kyoji.” She shrugged. “Here, listen for yourself,” she told him then pressed a button on the wall to a little intercom device that would let them listen inside the room.
“That was a horrible joke, Kyoji…….I know I laughed, but it was still mean……not all jokes have to be that insensitive….okay, that is true, but that doesn’t mean you have to repeat them,” the boy said with a chuckle, as if he was having a conversation with someone. “No, I already told you I don’t blame you for my being here; it was bound to happen right? Someone would mistake my talking to you for insanity……….but did you have to hurt them that badly?........I know you were trying to protect me but still……..no, they got what they deserved, but in the future just try not to go overboard like that and don’t do what you did yesterday either.” The boy was silent for a moment before laughing out loud. “Yeah, a pinky swear only works if we can shake pinkies, but in my current condition.” He struggled against the straightjacket a little. “I don’t see that happening.” He fell silent again then a look of sadness came to his face and he turned over onto his side so his back was to the door. “I’m a little scared. I don’t know what they’re going to do to me in here………I hope they don’t do that! I’ve been letting you watch too many movies.”
The nurse pressed the button again so they couldn’t hear anymore.
“You see?” she asked and the doctor nodded.
“Yes, well if I am to get anymore information on what is wrong with him I’ll just have to talk to him myself,” he said as he put his hand in his pocket and got out some keys. Sherry looked at him quizzically.
“You mean tonight? But isn’t it a bit late?” she asked him. Dr. Irin smiled at her as he searched for the right key.
“Possibly, but let’s just say that this case has intrigued me and I admit that I am not one for patience,” he told her as he found what he was looking for and put the key into the lock and undid it.
“Well, if you think its best Doctor,” she said uncertainly. Meanwhile Okashi was still laying on his side, enveloped in his conversation.
“No, I don’t have any idea how Jason catches people either. I mean he just walks as they run for their lives and yet he always gets them with no effort. One of the many wonders of the world I guess.” He stopped as he heard the turn of the lock and he sat up as the door opened. He watched as the doctor and the nurse entered his room. “Um hello,” he greeted as the doctor closed the door and the two walked over to them.
“Hello, Okashi, it’s nice to see you again,” Sherry said with a smile that Okashi returned.
“Likewise.” He then turned to the unfamiliar doctor. “And hello to you sir,” he said politely. Dr. Irin smiled at his good manners.
“Okashi, this is going to be your doctor, Dr. Irin,” Sherry introduced and Dr. Irin nodded his head in acknowledgment.
“Nice to meet you,” Okashi said with another smile. Dr. Irin kneeled down so he was on Okashi’s level.
“Nice to meet you too, how are you doing?” he asked kindly. Okashi chuckled at the question.
“Well, besides the circumstances,” he said and shifted in his straightjacket, “pretty good.” The doctor also chuckled. “Um, Dr. Irin, may I ask why you’re here? I was under the impression that I would talk to you later, like in the morning,” Okashi questioned.
“Yes, and we will meet in the morning, but this is more of a personal visit,” he explained. Okashi tilted his head to the side and looked at the doctor curiously.
“Personal visit?” he echoed and the doctor nodded.
“Yes, get to know you better without it being all formal and business like, you know?” Okashi stared at him then slowly nodded.
“I guess that makes sense. So you mean that I can be more comfortable with you, right?” he asked. Dr. Irin smiled and nodded.
“Precisely, very good, Okashi. Now you seem to be a very fine and polite boy,” Dr. Irin said and Sherry nodded.
“Yes, he certainly is, we had a wonderful conversation this morning, didn’t we Okashi?” she asked the boy who nodded.
“Uh huh and I hope you’ll take what I said into consideration; he isn’t good enough for you,” he replied. Dr. Irin raised an eyebrow and looked up at the nurse who blushed and looked away.
“Er I will,” she mumbled. The doctor stared at her curiously before giving his attention back to Okashi.
“Well, with how nice you are now it’s hard for me to believe what I heard you did to some of your classmates.” Okashi’s expression turned sorrowful at the mention of that and he looked away.
“Yes, I regret that very much, I didn’t mean to do it…do you know if they’re okay?” he asked and looked back up at the doctor.
“Don’t worry, Okashi, I hear they will be just fine,” Sherry said reassuringly when it looked like Dr. Irin wasn’t going to answer. Okashi gave a small, sad smile.
“I’m glad for that,” he whispered.
“Yes, I’m sure they will recover nicely,” Dr. Irin told him then decided to go to a new topic. “So, Okashi, what can you tell me of this Kyoji person?” Okashi’s head snapped up and he stared at the doctor with wide eyes; he then quickly looked away.
“I-I don’t know what you mean,” he lied lamely.
“Now, Okashi, I’ve heard you talk to this person myself a few moment ago.” Okashi scrunched up a little at that. “So is that the name of the person you hear in your head?” the doctor asked. Okashi was silent and wouldn’t look at him. When the boy said nothing Dr. Irin put his hand on his shoulder. “Okashi, did this voice tell you to hurt those boys?” he asked seriously. Okashi shut his eyes and shook his head.
“No…” he answered softly and it wasn’t a lie either.
“Can you tell me anything about this voice you hear? It would help me have a clue as to how to make you well again,” the doctor told him and gave the boys shoulder a little squeeze. Okashi still said nothing then scooted back, away from the doctor.
“I don’t want to talk anymore,” he said, almost coldly. Dr. Irin’s eyes widened slightly at the sudden change in tone and he looked up when he felt a hand on his shoulder.
“Maybe we should leave him be, he’s probably very tired,” Sherry suggested. Dr. Irin looked back to Okashi then nodded.
“I suppose you’re right. It was nice meeting you, Okashi, and I’ll talk to you in the morning,” he told the boy who finally opened his eyes and looked at him.
“Goodnight, Dr. Irin,” he said as the doctor got to his feet. Sherry smiled at Okashi and walked forward to pat his head.
“Goodnight, Okashi, and try to get some sleep,” she said sweetly and the boy smiled up at her.
“I’ll try and sleep well,” he told her then the two made their way out of the cell and closed the door behind them. Dr. Irin relocked the door and slipped his keys into his pocket. He then looked at the nurse curiously.
“Were you two talking about your personal life?” he asked her, referring to Okashi’s comment before. Sherry blushed and looked down at the ground.
“He’s, um, a very good listener,” she mumbled and Dr. Irin chuckled.
“Yes, he seems easy to talk to.” Then his expression turned serious. “But even so it looks like it might take some prying to get him to talk about that voice. If we get through that I’m sure we can make him well again,” he said confidently.
“I hope so; he’s such a sweet boy. He doesn’t belong here,” Sherry said and they started walking down the hallway.
Back in the cell Okashi sighed as he stared at the door, relieved that they were gone.
~That doctor needs to keep his nose out of our business,~ a male voice growled in his head. *He’s just doing his job, Kyoji* Okashi told the voice. ~Even so; he doesn’t need to know anything about me or about us.~ The boy nodded as he scooted back until he could lean against the padded wall. *If I do tell him then he’ll really think I’m crazy, like everyone else does,* he thought as he closed his eyes. ~…..I’m sorry that I put you through this my gentle host,~ Kyoji apologized. Okashi reopened his eyes and sighed.
“It’s not your fault,” he said aloud. “We’re both partly to blame for one thing or another, but I never really thought I’d end up in a place like this.” His eyes watered and he shuddered. “I’m scared; I don’t want to be here. I want to be home with my parent’s and pretend that all of this is a bad dream. They’ll never think I’m sane with what we’ve done and I don’t want to lose you to prove that I’m not dangerous, Kyoji. I’d die if you had to leave,” he whispered as tears slid down his cheeks and he closed his eyes.
~Don’t cry, Okashi, my sweet, sweet host, don’t cry. I got us in here and I’ll figure a way out, I promise,~ Kyoji vowed. Okashi was silent for a bit then moved so he could lie down. *Just don’t hurt anyone else, Kyoji, that’s all I ask,* he told his voice. ~I won’t I already promised that one. Now try and sleep,~ Kyoji told him. Okashi nodded and closed his eyes, but then reopened them and started to shift.
“Man this thing is annoying, I wish I could take it off,” he grumbled as he struggled against the straightjacket. “How am I supposed to sleep with this thing on?”
~You did last night,~ Kyoji pointed out.
“That’s because they drugged me!”
~Oh, right…but you have to admit that haze had pretty colors,~ Kyoji chuckled as he remembered their drugged state. Okashi rolled his eyes then closed them again.
“Go to sleep, Kyoji,” he told the voice.
~As you wish, my host, goodnight.~
“Night,” Okashi said then tried to go to sleep himself and was soon snoozing softly.
~Alright, now to think of a way out of here,~ Kyoji said once he was certain his host had fallen asleep. ~I will not allow my little host to stay locked up~ He then started to plot their escape from the cell and the asylum.
*********
~Okashi, wake up~ The boy groaned and tried to ignore the voice. ~Wake up already, come on….geez if your hand was free I’d smack you with it. Now wake up!!!~ Kyoji screamed and Okashi awoke with a gasp. He then scowled at the ceiling when he realized what had pulled him from his sleep.
“What?!” he snapped and struggled to sit up. “I was actually sleeping rather peacefully,” he mumbled as he tried to rub his head, but then realized his arms were still being restrained and he huffed. “I’m going to have a headache now,” he added as Kyoji’s yell seemed to echo in his head.
~I’m sure you’ll survive it and you can yell at me later when we get out of here,~ the voice told him. Okashi raised an eyebrow at that.
“Get out of here?” he asked. “And how are we supposed to do that?”
~Just give me control of your body and I’ll do the rest.~ Okashi narrowed his eyes.
“Oh no, I’m not doing that; remember what happened last time I did?” He heard a sigh in his head.
~Okashi, please, don’t be difficult. I’m not going to hurt anyone, now please go along with this so we can get out of here.~ Okashi was silent for a bit and started to bite his lip.
“And once we do what’ll happen then? They’ll come after us like we’re criminals. We have no where to go,” he argued, starting to get nervous at the idea of escaping.
~Nowhere to go? Okashi, we have the entire world! And with me on your side they’d never find you,~ Kyoji coaxed. Okashi started biting his lip harder.
“But, Kyoji, what if I just act like I’m normal? Maybe they’ll let me go on good behavior,” he suggested.
~Do you really believe that? You said it yourself they’ll never think you’re sane. They’ll poke and prod you until they come up with an answer that’ll satisfy them.~ Okashi didn’t reply and he finally released his lip that he had been tormenting. ~Okashi, you don’t belong here, locked up like some kind of wild animal. Let me free you from this prison!~ Okashi contemplated the voices reasoning’s. He would be free from here and whatever they would do to him. But what would that mean? Would he ever see his family or friends again? Where would they go? Would he have to run for the rest of his life? Finally he sighed as he came to a decision.
“Alright, Kyoji, do what you wish, get us out of here,” he told him. He loved his family, but he had already lost them when they took him to the asylum to protect him from going to jail. Really, all he needed was Kyoji and if it meant staying with him then Okashi would leave everything he had ever known behind. He heard a chuckle ring through his head.
~Wonderful, I knew you would agree. Now, I’ve swept the building and everything has pretty much quieted down and the security here sucks. They’ve been watching tv and scratching their butts all night,~ he told the boy. Okashi made a face.
“I didn’t need to know that last bit. So, um, to get us out of here what kind of control are we talking about? A little or…all?” he asked nervously. Kyoji was silent for a moment.
~I’m afraid all, my host, with all I’d be able to use my powers more efficiently. Do you think you’re up to it?~ he asked hesitantly. Okashi started chewing on his bottom lip again as he thought then he suddenly tried to stand up, using the wall for support. When he got successfully to his feet he took a deep breath as if to calm himself. ~Okashi?~ Kyoji said questioningly.
“Do it, Kyoji, I’ll be okay,” Okashi told him with determination. Kyoji let out a chuckle at the show of courage.
~There’s my brave little host! Okay just relax and this’ll be over before you know it,~ he instructed. Okashi gulped nervously and tried to calm down his racing heart as he walked to the middle of the room.
“Ready whenever you are,” he whispered. Kyoji didn’t reply and Okashi closed his eyes as he braced himself. Suddenly he doubled over in pain and he tried to keep himself from crying out as a familiar sensation swept throughout his body, like needles going through his veins. Tears escaped his eyes as his body creaked and cracked painfully as it started to change. His hair started to grow wildly and the color changed from brown to a deep black and it didn’t stop until it reached his waist. He became taller as his limbs became long and graceful then his ears lengthened and became pointed. Two horns started growing out of his head then curved along the back of his skull and stopped with a little curve at the ends.
When the changes stopped the new figure fell to his knees and panted heavily. He slowly opened his eyes and they were a burned orange color instead of the bright green Okashi’s had been. When his breathing slowed he smirked, revealing fangs, and began to chuckle, which sounded deep and menacing.
“There, all done, that wasn’t so bad now was it, my host?” he asked and his voice was smooth and silky and was just as deep as his chuckle had been. A groan reverberated in his head.
~Oh God that hurt, that’s never going to get better, is it, Kyoji?~ Okashi’s voice asked him.
“I’m sorry if it was uncomfortable for you, but it’s inevitable that your body will hurt after going through such a transformation,” Kyoji replied.
~Yes, I know, we’ve been through it enough times, now let’s just get out of here already,~ he told the one that now had control of his changed body.
“Of course, but first to get rid of this damn thing,” Kyoji said as he looked down at his restraint. He closed his eyes and was still for a moment then, with a loud cry he pulled his arms apart and the jacket gave to the force of the movement and broke. He made quick work of the thing and soon it laid in shredded pieces on the floor. “There, much better,” he said with a smirk and flicked his long, glossy hair back.
~Geez, you didn’t have to shred the thing apart!~ Okashi exclaimed.
“It got what it deserved,” Kyoji said simply and went to the cell door. “Now to get this thing open,” he murmured.
~ And how do you plan on doing that?~ Okashi asked curiously. Kyoji laughed at the question.
“Child’s play,” he chuckled as he put the palm of his hand where the lock was. Suddenly his hand was surrounded by a black energy and it shot right through the door. Leaving a nice hole where the lock used to be and Kyoji pushed it open easily with his other hand. “Human locks are rather pathetic,” he said in a haughty tone.
~Man, you are just a big show off, aren’t you?~ Okashi asked with a little laugh, but he did sound impressed. Kyoji poked his head out the door and looked around to see if the coast was clear.
“Us demon’s usually do come with pretty big ego’s,” Kyoji admitted as he exited the cell completely then closed the door behind him.
~Even demon spirits like you?~
“Hey, I used to have my own body thank you very much and yes my ego was quite large.” Okashi laughed at that.
~Was? I think you mean is.~ Kyoji rolled his eyes.
“Whatever, enough bickering let’s just get out of here,” he whispered to his host.
~Agreed and do it soon, I don’t like it back here, it’s creepy.~
“Welcome to what I have to deal with all the time,” Kyoji replied as he slinked down the hallway.
~I know, but you’re used to it.~
“True, true,” Kyoji replied then quieted as he heard voices. He got to the end of the hallway and looked around the corner. Two guards were walking away from them and were chatting casually.
~Wonderful, I thought you said they were all watching tv and scratching their butt’s?~ Okashi asked him. *It’s only two calm down, they’ll be easy to take down* Kyoji thought to him. ~Take down? Kyoji, don’t you dare!~ But the demon was already stalking toward the two unsuspecting guards. Suddenly one happened to glance behind him and gasped as he spotted Kyoji. He spun around and shinned his flashlight on him.
“Holy shit!” he cried out in terror at the sight of Kyoji who was shielding his eyes from the light with his arm. The other guard turned to see what the other was going on about and also freaked out.
“W-What the hell is that!?” he shouted as he dropped his own flashlight and reached for his gun. Kyoji smirked and suddenly disappeared, reappearing behind the men.
“I’m you’re worst nightmare,” he said sinisterly as he flexed his fingers with their claw like nails. The men spun around and looked shocked at how fast he was.
“H-How did he-ack” the guard didn’t finish his sentence as his eyes rolled up in the back of his head and he collapsed. His partner could only gape at him when suddenly he gave a groan and fell too. Kyoji chuckled evilly.
“Piece of cake.”
~Oh my God! What did you do!? Oh please tell me you didn’t kill them! You said you wouldn’t hurt anyone!~ Okashi screamed at him in panic. Kyoji tsked and walked over to the fallen men.
“And I haven’t, Okashi, really you must have more faith in me. I only knocked them out, see for yourself.” He bent down on one knee and placed his fingers on one of the men’s throat and a pulse fluttered under his fingertips. He heard a sigh of relief.
~Oh thank goodness, you scared me for a moment.~ Kyoji chuckled.
“I’m sorry my sweet, gentle host. A few well placed hits here and there and there you go, sleepy time all around. Now I suggest we get out of here,” he said as he stood back up then started to make his way through the hallways.
~Kyoji…what are we gonna do? Are we really going to be okay?~ Okashi asked uncertainly after a few moments of silence.
“Don’t worry, my beautiful host, we’ll be fine,” he told him reassuringly then he felt his face heat up as Okashi blushed. Even though he was in control of his body Okashi’s emotions could still surface. Kyoji laughed as he made his way down the hallway.
~I hate it when you call me beautiful,~ Okashi mumbled in embarrassment.
“And that’s why I say it,” Kyoji replied as he made his way through the maze like building, searching for the way that would give him and his host their freedom.

[Unknown 2:30 am]
Inside a scientific lab a man was monitoring some computers when one of them started to beep. He looked at it in surprise before rubbing his tired eyes and walking over to it.
“What kind of disturbance could there be this early in the morning?” he wondered as he got to the beeping machine and started to type in something on the keyboard. He looked at the information that popped up and gasped in shock. He immediately dashed to the phone nearby and punched in a number, looking back at the screen in disbelief as he listened to the ringing. His attention was brought back to the phone when someone picked up. “Hey, I have something here that I think Nova is going to absolutely love,” he said into the receiver and smirked widely.
“Nova sir!” a man yelled as he burst into a huge office with a piece of paper in his hand. He ran up to a large desk that had a man sitting at it who was going over some paperwork. He looked up and scowled at the sudden intrusion.
“What is it?” he snapped in agitation and ran his fingers through his short, chocolate brown hair. The man panted as he stopped in front of the desk and held the paper out for the man known as Nova to take.
“This just came for you from one of the labs in sector 0-X59. They said it was urgent,” the man told him. Nova lifted an eyebrow and snatched the paper from the other man. He read what was on it and his eyes widened. He looked up at the messenger slowly and swallowed a lump that had formed in his throat.
“Are they positive?” he demanded in a low voice and the other man nodded vigorously.
“They say there was no mistaking the energy reading, sir,” he told him. Nova looked back down at the paper and stared at it. Suddenly he started to shake as he began to laugh quietly and it slowly got louder. The messenger stepped back at the odd behavior; he had never seen his boss laugh before and it gave him the chills. “S-Sir?” he said cautiously and jumped when Nova unexpectedly stood up from his chair.
“Get our best men out there immediately, we can’t lose track of him again!” Nova ordered and the man squeaked out a “yes, sir” before running out of the office. Nova waited for the door to slam shut before looking down at the paper again and grinning widely.
“So you have finally reappeared, have you?” he asked a person who wasn’t there as he stepped away from his chair and went to the window. He stared out into the bright lights of the city and he couldn’t get rid of his smirk at the wonderful news that had been brought to him. “You’ve been flickering on and off our radar for years, but you won’t get away this time.” He crumbled the paper in his fist as he started becoming more excited by the sweet thoughts going through his mind. “I’ll catch you, you bastard, and you’ll get what you deserve!” He suddenly punched the glass as his smile grew almost insane. “I’ll finish what my ancestors started and destroy you once and for all, Goaku!!!” he shouted and the office echoed with wild laughter.
