Introduction
Claimer: Well for once, I can actually write a “claimer” instead of a “disclaimer”. I own Shandaar, Ethan, all the characters that are going to come after, Kadessa and all the countries... all mine ^_^.
Author’s notes: This story has first started a few years ago, and was originally a Final Fantasy-based fiction. However, there’s very little of that left, except the characters. Shandaar was supposed to wind up in 20th century Kadessa and help getting rid of some dictator… but not anymore, and on this I’ll let you read this chapter, which is just an introduction to what’s going on in this world. Most of the characters haven’t been introduced, but they will be in due time. Oh and this is my first original work… ^^;;. Beware as it will be yaoi/slash, and raiting will climb next chapter.
Take Me Away
Introduction
A cold wind arose in Kadessa country, as well as dark clouds; a sign that fall was definitely coming. Soon the trees would take golden, orange and red colors and apples would be ripe enough to be picked up from the trees. The children living around the castle orchards would be very happy. The peasants were also getting ready for the cold winter by gathering wood and more food than usual.
A normal fall indeed.
The feilds surrounding the castle were empty this afternoon with the exception of two persons and their horses. Wielding swords and shields, Prince Shandaar Kandi and the captain of the Kadessa Army – Shandaar’s personal bodyguard – Ethan Darby were training. They had been doing so for a few hours, trying to perfect their own moves and techniques, with results. The swords clashed again with almost equivalent strength passion. It was an art both men loved. For different reasons of course, but swordsmanship was something they had in common.
Shandaar was the first one to flinch and backed off a few feet from the dark-haired man, waiting for what he had so say. It’d most likely be praises, being of royal rank, but who knew? But if Ethan would tell him the truth, he’d get better.
“Soon, you’ll be as good as your father, my prince. But we better fall back at the castle for now. It’s getting quite cold, and I wouldn’t want you to get sick at this period of the year.” Nothing was new there. Ethan was always such a mother hen to his young protégé, fortunately not just because he had been appointed to. After a few years by his side, ever since his promotion to the rank of captain, he had grown attached to the silver-haired male, playing the protector, big brother, father… and even more for Shandaar.
The prince suddenly felt a shiver running through his body. It was fresh already, and with the wind, it would get even colder. He sheathed his long sword and brought his cape closer to his body as if it could provide him warmth. “I agree. Maybe we’ll have rain soon, we’re better to head back.” Those words said, in a mixture of softness and determination, he took a deep breath and began to walk toward his white horse, a pure-bred Andalusian, and hopped on it without difficulty. At 19 years old, he was a close portrait of his father, King Logan Kandi; tall, muscular yet lean features, and shoulder-length silver hair. To complete, a pair of stunning sky blue eyes, gift of his mother.
Ethan had similar physical features, but his brown hair covered his ears, the bangs hid his left eye, and he was a bit more built than Shandaar. Mostly because training was something he did day after day, week after week, unlike the prince who had other things to attend. He got up on his Shire quickly as well, and soon after, the two were going back to the castle.
Within fifteen minutes, they had reached Kadessa Castle. Shandaar was more or less enchanted by the idea, since it meant assisting to a council meeting. With luck, maybe they’d pass the fact the prince still wasn’t married (not like they never avoided it after all) and would move forward to something more “important”, like the taxes, salaries for the castle workers, reconstruction that were long needed, but he could always hope.
Once their horses were put back in the stables, they head toward the castle itself. It was a majestic white marble castle, surrounded by gardens and acres of fields, orchards and forests. A location worthy of Queen Tahira, ruler of the Kadessa Empire, one of the biggest empires of the world. Royal guards at the gates bowed down respectfully as the heir passed by them, and opened the doors to let them inside, closing the doors behind them.
Even if Kadessa was big and rather well seen around the world, it wasn’t without its own history of treachery, treason and war against others members of the family however. The current reign was quite peaceful, with the economy booming in towns. Not everyone would be kept happy, but it was something to be expected, even inside the city of Kadessa, mainly populated by a richer population than the peasants and farmers, who occupied the countryside.
Politics were also smooth with most surrounding countries. The Nael kingdom was more searching for an economic partnership, less focused on the way both lands ruled over their citizens, while Renken caused trouble here and then. They were quiet now, and to the Queen, that was a very good thing. Magdos empire was quite busy with their own problems, but that didn’t seem to affect anything with Kadessa or any other countries they shared borders with. As for the Derberg kingdom, on the Eastern continent, didn’t pose any threats either for the moment.
While he had wanted to continue training or simply relaxing in the garden, he had that meeting to attend… not something he ever liked. Getting back into his bedroom, still escorted by Ethan, he keeps rather quiet, still thinking about what was going to happen this time. “Do you think Master Hanten will finally stop acting like a madman about that possibility of drought?”
“Like it’s going to happen, yeah” Ethan replied with a grin. “We have an ocean beside us, and little mountains… chances are very, very low. He’s due for a little trip to the sanatorium.”
“And we’re due to a séance of arguing I guess…” With a resolved sigh, Shandaar pushed the meeting room open. “I wonder if those people like it as well…”
