All It Would Take
A/N: This is an original piece of fiction, and I reserve all rights. Review, and I’ll send you telekinetic kisses.
Nick had planned the perfect evening for Bobbi Jo. Since it was their one-year anniversary, he had reserved the same table at the same restaurant he had taken her to on their first date. Just like before, he ordered the steak, and she cooperated by ordering the cod. They shared another bottle of good wine, and held hands under the table. After dinner, he took her to the swing club they had frequented often in the past year. And there, in the middle of her favorite song, in the middle of the dance floor, he got down on bended knee and pulled a perfect brilliant cut diamond of the first water out of his pocket. Always a quiet man, he encouraged her with warm eyes and smile instead of saying the words aloud. He\'d waited, though, until he was confident in his future with her. He knew, without a doubt, that she was the perfect woman. She was witty and strong and so beautiful it hurt to look at her, but her sweet, genuine smile always eased the pain. Her affection for him was a band around his heart that far outshone any diamond he could give her. All it would take for him to be perfectly happy was one little promise from Bobbi Jo.
She had a lot of explaining to do, Bobbi Jo thought. Unless she could convince Nick that a long engagement, at least a year, was absolutely necessary. She thought she could fix everything in a year. But that would be hard if she was struggling to make wedding plans, too. Maybe she should ask Nick for two years. All she needed was to eliminate one tiny little problem, but she would need to step carefully, and make sure she had all her facts straight before rushing headlong into anything.
Was it illegal, she wondered, to accept a proposal while married to another man? She would have to ask her husband, if she could find his phone number. He would definitely be in a position to know.
All this, and eleven years of history, long forgotten (well, not really), flashed through her mind in the split second it took her to throw caution to the wind and say yes--again.
