The Hitchhiker

A/N: Please don’t be offended by the comment about Jewish people. I am not a racist or anything, but his religious affiliation will come into play later. Hope you guys enjoy this!

It all started on that fateful day when I saw him walking down the road. He was in a formal black suit and tie. It made me wonder why he was on the side of the road, holding his thumb out for a ride.

The first time I passed him by, I saw him holding up his left thumb. He got a good look at me as I did him. He was young, around my age, but his formal appearance and the way he carried himself made him seem like he was really in his late thirties. I passed him by that evening, but he just seemed so lonely. He definitely piqued my interest.

I have never stopped for hitchhikers in my life, and trust me; I’ve seen a whole lot of them. Yet he gave me an incredible urge to stop just for him. That urge grew and by the third time I saw him, he was next to me inside my Solara convertible. Perhaps it was his impassive face and the fact that no one else on the road seemed to want to stop for him, which may have softened my heart. Whatever the factor may be, I started to drive him home every single day after that.

I only got his first name: Daniel. I also found out where he goes everyday, the Rabbinical College around where I live. He didn’t say much of anything; words were a scarcity between us but the silence was fine. He was intriguing to say the least. Yet I felt it was out of place to unveil the air of mystery around him. The strange thing is, I used to stay late at work all the time, but now I’m the first one of the office everyday because I wanted to pick him up. It was actually a long walk from where I usually see him to the college; it seemed a travesty to not stop and offer him a ride. I didn’t know whether he was a student, teacher, or even a student-teacher, but anyway I knew I wasn’t going to find out soon. He really didn’t offer much in the way of conversation. He was always so quiet.

Name is Alexander Wall. Occupation: Manager at advertising firm. It pays well even if it is boring as hell. Age: 26. I’m gay if you didn’t guess that already. Now that you know that, I suppose you can leave in disgust or stay and find out a little more about me.
