The Glanconer
Danny looked up from her keyboard and out her open bedroom window. The light from her monitor reflecting off her wire rim glasses. “What the hell?” She muttered. She pushed back from her desk and crept over to her window. “Flute music?” Danny stuck her head out the window and listened. “Who plays the flute in this backwoods town?”
The music was beautiful. It was so sad and lonely. With out a second thought Danny grabbed her tennis shoes and was out the bedroom door. She sneaked past her parents door and quickly went down the stairs.
“Danny where are you going?” Danny froze and whirled around. Her little sister stood at the top of the stairs rubbing her sleepy eyes.
“Shhhh!” Danny smiled. “Can’t sleep. Gonna walk the field until I get tired. Go back to bed Michelle.”
“Kay”Michelle yawned and hobbled back to bed.
Danny relaxed and opened the front door. She was almost afraid the music would not be there, it was. It floated to her on the wind. She quickly walked past the stables to the fence surrounding the pasture. There was a small group of trees clustered by the south fence. That is where the music was coming from.
“Okay I am insane.” Danny whispered to herself. “I am so desperate for intelligent company I am imaging flute music. When I get there all that is gonna be there is trees. You really are pathetic Danny girl.”
The trees where not packed closely together so it was easy for Danny to follow where the music was coming from. There was no moon but the stars lit her way easily enough to the center of the little thicket.
“Ohh” Danny breathed. There was a flute player after all. He sat underneath on tree. There was something about the way he sat that spoke to her. He looked so lost and lonely. His head with bent, his long red hair hiding his face from her. The soft music ended on a quavering note and the flute player stood up and turned towards her. “Ohh” Danny breathed again.
“My Lady” the flute player bowed and glided towards her. His hair flowing around him like a cloak. Danny had the urge to run her hands through that thick mane. The knowing smile that tugged at the corners of his lushes mouth made her shiver and blush. “I hope I did not disturb you with my humble flute playing.” He held up a set of wooden pan pipes in one long elegant hand.
“What are you?’ Danny whispered. She gasped and clapped a hand over her mouth in shock. “I’m so sorry.”
The vision in front of her laughed. It was deep, warm and made a liquid heat pool in her belly. “Don’t you have a name for me, My Lady? He leaned down, his amber eyes widing as they stared into hers.
Danny reached her hand out to touch his face. She could not believe she was being so bold. She freaked out when a guy even talked to her, and here she was tracing the contours of his face. She ran her finger down his pale face, over his beautiful high cheekbones. When the tips of her fingers traced his mouth, one of his hands came up and held her fingers still. She felt his mouth move over the pads of her fingers. To her horror, she broke out in a sweat. She tried to pull her hand away but he was having none of that. He simply mover her hand back to his cheek, and rubbed against her hand like a large cat. His eyes narrowing in pleasure. When he finally let her hand go, she ran her fingers through the auburn wave that was his hair. That was when she saw them. They were tapered at the top. Not much longer than hers but his ears did have a defiant point. “An Elf. You are an elf.”
He stepped closer to her, his arms sliding around her waist. His delighted chuckled sending her into uncontrollable shivers. “This is as good as any name. My Lady.” Her vison was obstructed as his hair surrounded her when he leaned down. “My Lady deserves a prize.” His lips seared hers with his kiss. His lips moved softly over hers, catching her bottom lip between his.
“My first kiss is with an elf.” Danny thought frantically. “He tastes like nutmeg.” One of his hands slid up to her pony tail and tugged the hair tie free. She stopped breathing when his teeth nibbled her lip. She gasped when she felt his tongue brush against her mouth. “Oh God” Danny’s hands grabbed onto the front of his shirt, when he invaded her mouth. The liquid heat in her belly began to spread though out her body. She shamelessly rubbed her body against his and he moaned into her mouth. “I made him do that.” she smiled against his lips triumphantly. His hand fisted in her long dark hair and his kiss changed. It became rough. She felt like he wanted to devour her, and oh god, she wanted him to. “No.” She pulled back and pushed him away. “I can’t. You are not real.”
Danny started to back away from him. “ There are no such things as elves.” She watched as his face fell. “I’m sorry.”
He took a step towards her and held out his hand imploringly. “My Lady. I am real. Don’t leave me.” He made as if to touch her. “It has been so long since someone has heard me. I had given up.”
Danny shook her head backing up. “I’m sorry.” With that she turned and ran back the way she had come.
“My Lady!” he called after her, but Danny kept running. Soon music even more mournful then which drew out in first place, followed her home.
