The beginning of my new life

Chapter 1: The beginning of my new life

Walking the dark streets of London looking for something I thought until tonight would never have existed. I had always loved to read horror and fantasy books and I sometimes wished to be one of those creatures of the night. Beautiful how they lived and how strong they were. I turn a corner and see one of London parks in front of me. I slowly make my way to the huge columns that mark the entrance while I still have this sick feeling of being scared. I shouldn’t be scared right now; I will never have to be scared in my life again. As I walk towards a pond surrounded by huge oak trees I try to take in everything. I don’t feel any changes to myself mentally but physically there are so many. I let myself fall in one of the benches and try to gather my thought about what had happened today.

I could remember how it all started. I had had a rough day at school everyone said I couldn’t do anything right and the grades I got back were very disappointing to say the least. I was slowly getting accustomed to the feeling, I feel I don’t belong in this world but in the books I read. My fellow students tease me about them. “Look at her” one of them sniggers “That’s probably the only place in the world she will feel pretty” I hear them all laugh but keep reading, I am so used to this all, my books make me feel safenallnally the last class starts and I can try to pay attention to my teacher, not that I can keep my thoughts there long. My mind longs for the book in my bag, to go back to that place where creatures with special powers battle each other and my favourite always wins. I jump up startled when I hear the bell ring and quickly gather all my things and sprint out before the rest starts to leave. I jump in the elevator and hope it shuts quickly. No such luck as one of my classmates quickly put his hand in to open the door. “Look what we have here isn’t it the bookworm” While he and some of his friends get in “Don’t you have your book now maybe you left it in the classroom” They all have grins on their faces and one pushes me hard out of the elevator “Sorry no more room Worm” and I stumble and fall hard on the floor “Why don’t you take the stairs! O wait you can’t with that elephant foot of yours” And they all burst out laughing. The doors close and I quickly gather everything I dropped and quickly make my way to the bathroom down the corridor before anyone else sees me. I get into one off the stalls shutting and locking the door quickly behind me and sit down on the toilet while tears stream down my face. The pain that goes trough my malformed foot after running is excruciating but I know I’m save here. I take of the huge shoe to take some of the pain of my foot. Suddenly I hear the door open to the bathroom and hear some of my female classmates into the bathroom talking and laughing loudly. “Have you seen Bigfoot today she really is so stupid” one of them says while one of the other replies “I don’t even know why the her her in this college she doesn’t even know anything, have you seen her grades” They all laugh “I shouldn’t come home with such grades, my parents would be so mad”. “Maybe she should just cut of her foot at least that would make her look better” I hear there voices getting softer as they leave the bathroom and finally I hear the click of the door falling shut. “Finally alone” I say to the air and try and wipe my eyes. I shouldn’t cry they are all idiots who don’t understand. I slowly put my shoe back on and silently leave the stall. I look in one of the mirrors but quickly turn away when I see myself, my eyes are bloodshot with my dark blue greenish irises and my hair is long and greasy falling down the sides of my face. Most of it is knitted together in locks as if it hasn’t been brushed for a long time. I quickly make my way to the elevator and am happy when I do not see anyone I know. Finally outside I decide to take a long walk to the student apartment on the other side of the city. I usually take the subway since I have to go trough on of the lesser parts of London but today I feel like walking. The sun is still quite hot for late October and I am happy I was only wearing a T-shirt under my long black coat, I had bought it because I thought it looked like one a Vampire would wear, but with the sun on it, it could be to hot luckily in the winter it felt great. I was walking down the smaller str of of London, trying to avoid the busy shopping centres. That of course meant I had to deal with a lot of scary and weird people. “I will end up here one day” I mused to myself. Now came the worst part of the journey I had to go trough a tunnel underneath one of the busy roads to get to the part of town where my flat is. It always smelled of piss and the light never worked. I slowly started to decent while my heart was racing in my chest. Suddenly I hand grabbed me and I started to scream but only muffled sounds came out when he placed his hand on it. He dragged me to the side of the tunnel and laid his finger on his lips to signal to me to keep quiet. I was to shocked to do anything and I just lay there while he took his hands of me. He looked like a young man around 27 and I noticed he wasn’t that bad dressed either. “Don’t be scared I just wanted to give you something” yeah right I thought “something you want and need very much” he continued. “I don’t need anything, Thank you Sir!” I tried to get up but he pushed me against the wall. He was grabbing something in his coat while I tried to get loose. I was a little amused when he just pulled out a small paper. “I am not going to kill you but there will be a special event soon where you are needed”. He shovee pae paper in my hand “That’s the address, well I got to go now” he let me go and I took of running toward the exit. When I was outside and at least far enoughfeelfeel safe I looked back but I didn’t see anything “well where was my bravery for dark things” I looked at the small paper and looked at it thoughtfully. It seemed to be some sort of business card. On it was an address to a small market I know there was during the day. It wasn’t even in the bad part of London but quite close to where I live. I turned the card around and I saw a neat handwriting.

Dear Celia,

I know what you want and I can give it to
you. Please come and visit me when the
sun has gone and no one will ever
hurt you again.

M.
