The Sweet Caress of Lightening
WL1031: Hey all, this is an original story of mine.
Jade: Yeah, she came up with this one all by herself!
WL1031: *laughing* Yeah, it’s all mine. It’s a shorory, ory, but that doesn’t make it any less good.
Jade: Yes, so please read and review! WL would love some feedback for this one.
Disclaimer: This story is all mine, damn it. Everything about it belongs to me because it all came from my cute little twisted mind. This is a dark and sinister tale, so if your heart stops or something else goes wrong, you’ve read this at your own risk.
The Sweet Caress of Lightning
I closed my eyes tightly when the wind howled again. I lay there alone listening to the screaming air forcing itself against my window pane. I sat up in my lonely bed and opened the blinds, reaching for the lock on my window. The glass vibrated under my hand; a sort of strange heart beat thrumming into my skin. Pulling the window open, the strong wind slashed at my face. I stared at the sky, seeing the angry blackness highlighted with the fingers of lightening touching down miles away.
The rain began to collide against the earth, pounding into cars and rooftops, and sliding into the cracks in the street. The potholes anps ips in the pavement filled up, turning into disgusting little sinkholes and puddles that I longed to splash in. I watched as the big tree across the street started to bend into the grass that covered its roots. I could hear its branches cracking, straining to stay in its natural place. The high leaves swirled, showing the wind path to the naked eye. The wind picked up, causing one of the listless branches to break loose. The crash that it made when it hit the ground reminded me of an explosion; an explosion that I felt in my very being. It actually hurt me, the sound of it all ringing in my ears.
Suddenly, the air became still. It was frighteningly quiet outside and inside of the house. Except for the sound of my breathing, nothing could be heard for miles around. I thought that the whole world was silent in those moments. The absolute death of sound terrified me. I could not even hear the clock downstairs chiming. It was…dead. The whole world was dead. I looked around the room, straining my ears to catch something.
There was nothing.
I jumped when the lightning struck down directly in front of the house, the electric appendages caressing the street. They came closer, illuminating the air in front of my window. The force of the air caused the blinds to clank against the window. Glass shattered somewhere in the house, the sudden sound booming into my senses. Scrambling out of bed, I ran downstairs. A window had broken because of a large tree branch coming through, forcing its way inside. After a rather unsuccessful attempt at trying the light switch, I lit a few candles around the room. Luckily, there was only a small hole in the glass, something that could be easily repaired without having to replace the whole window. I covered up the whole and blew the candles out. Turning my head, I saw a sudden movement. My heart skipped when the lightning flashed again and for one second I thought that it was….
No, it was nothing.
The sky flickered again making the house as bright as day and then back to darkness. I sat down on the couch, trying to calm my heart and breathing. I was just being silly—afraid of nothing. The lightning flared once more and I jumped. The nervous boiling in my stomach was making me want to run—from what I did not know, but I just wanted to get away.
It was very…unsettling. The kind of unsettling feeling that settles down in your stomach, twisting up into knots and bows. No, it was not a painful stomach ache; not even close. It lent a strange tingling along the airs on my arms and a buzzing in mind.
But…
Getting up, I stepped carefully in the dark towards the stairs, making sure not to slam my leg into the edge of the low side table. I quickly made my way upstairs to my bed. Lying down on my side, I turned away from the open door, facing the opposite wall. Pulling the warm sheets up around my ears, I settled down into the comfy pillows. The storm continued outside, but I didn’t let it bother me this time, not focusing on it. Just as I closed my eyes, I felt the bed dip. I thought nothing of it, thinking that it was just my cat, Shera, coming to join me on the bed for a cuddle. Her cold nose poked me on my cheek and I smiled. Then, I felt her tongue lick me on my cheek just like she always did. She licked my face again and I brought my hand out from beneath to covers to bat her away.
“Shera…I’m trying to sleep.” I said drowsily.
I came fully awake in the next moment when a cold hand grabbed my wrist.

WL1031: Well, that’s the first chapter…
Jade: Come on, WL. This is really a prologue. *shakes her finger at her* You know better!
WL1031: Okay, its just a prologue. But, I still want some reviews.
Jade: *turns to the audience* Yeah, people. Feedback is great so review!
