Hoping for Changes

Mason looked up from where he was resting when he saw the prince and the blond little rescue return from their walk. He stood up and made his way right towards Aiden while Sare ran to where Lei was sitting. The blond was surprised to see his friend awake and was nervous to what Lei’s reaction to all of this was going to be.
“Are we ready?” Mason asked impatiently. Aiden’s walk took longer than it should have in his opinion. “We need to get to the campsite by nightfall and we will not make it by that time if we are this slow.”

Aiden nodded at his general, “If Sare can’t swim I assume that Lei can’t as well, but even if he does , I don’t think he has the physical condition to cross such a vicious river. I will help Sare across and you. ..”
“I hope you don’t mind if I request to help the blond one instead,” Mason interrupted Aiden, “That Lei slave has such a venomous attitude and I am in no mood to put up with him.” He didn’t care that both slaves were not that far away from them and could hear him.

Lei stood from where he was sitting and wiped his clothes clean of any dirt that might have gotten on them, not seeming to care what Mason was saying, “I do not want any help from either of you.” He said calmly.

“Lei?” Sare was getting nervous to what Lei would do next. He knew that Lei was terribly upset about taking him from Viera but he hoped that the other wouldn’t try to return. Sare reached out to take Lei’s hands into his but Lei prevented this by moving himself quickly out of Sare’s way. He did not want anyone to touch him. Sare sat back and looked away sadly. He felt this was not going to go well.

Lei crossed his arms over his chest and looked down at Sare, “What has gotten over you Sare??” he exclaimed angrily. “Do you know what Keiran is going to do to us…what he is going to do to you when he catches us! You can’t possibly believe that we can escape this easily and he is just going to let this go?!” Lei sighed and closed his eyes trying to calm down. He knew that nothing he said was going to get Sare to go back to Viera willingly. Maybe if he returned, somehow, he could get Keiran from going after Sare.
Lei opened his eyes and looked at Sare with an equally sad expression Sare was trying not to look at him with. “I am going back to Viera. Hopefully you don’t get captured.”
Sare’s eyes widened and he looked up at Lei with a frightened expression. “No!” he reached out and grabbed the bottom of Lei’s yellow tunic as if he was trying to keep Lei from going anywhere. “No…you can’t go back Lei…you just can’t! You were not happy with Keiran either!”
“What does that matter?? How will I be happy running away with you when all your attention and life is going to be centered around him?!” Lei exclaimed pointing at Aiden’s direction. “At least if I go back...I’ll have Keiran.”
Sare just grabbed onto Lei tighter. “Don’t go.” He began to sob. “I know what I am asking of you is not fair but I will not be able to go without you and…and I don’t want to live without Aiden either…please Lei…I need you in my life too.”
Lei just stared at Sare clinging onto him and crying for a moment before he kneeled down and wrapped his arms around him. “Alright, I won’t go back. I’ll stay with you.”
Aiden walked up to them and kneeled down beside the pair and placed a hand on Sare’s back.
“This is your opportunity to a new life Lei and I promise I will keep you both safe.”
Lei just glared at Aiden but didn’t say anything. All he could do was hope that the prince would be able to keep his word.
Mason sighed and ran a hand through his hair. “Damn it…” he said under his breath. That slave was so close to leaving and now he was disappointed that he was stuck with him through the journey back to Luxem.
