Being Saved

Author Notes: The chapter is what most of you been waiting for, but you will get an unhappy surprise. Also, much of it is for word count purposes. There will be a bit of a retelling of James' story, but you will find out a little more about Robert and Sebastian as well.

Lisa: I wish people like Sebastian are real, but I have never met someone that sweet in real life. You will get your wish in this chapter, but also something unpeasent. Let the angst begin...or is it continue? Enjoy?...I guess.

Jason and Sebastian looked up in shock. Standing in the doorway were police officers with their guns raised. All the way behind them, James say Dr. Rendell. Suddenly, everything went crazy. Sebastian and James were pulled up by an officer with fire engine red hair. The kidnappers tried to make a run for it. Other officers went to the room where the other captives were. The officer that had took Sebastian and James noticed James state of undress while Sebastian zipped up his pants. The officer took off his leather jacket, and put it around James’ body. You would say that he would still be uncovered, right? Wrong, While James is a diminutive 5 foot 2 inches; this officer is 6 foot 3 inches. The jacket went down to the top of James’ thighs.

Fred, since he knew he was going to be going to jail anyways, grabbed James a girl captives. It was not Jean, but another one. Her frightened brown eyes were impossibly wide. All officers had their guns pointed at the captives.

Fred smirked though. “Do you really want to take the chance with this girls’ life?”

The red – haired officer was the one who spoke. “What do you want? Please, do not hurt the child.”

Fred nodded approvingly. “I am glad you see I am not playing around. Drop your guns.”

All of the officers looked at each other, but they did not want to risk the girl’s life.

They did what Fred told them to do. “Now, please let go of her.” The same officer from the first time spoke.

When Fred had trapped the girl, Sebastian and James were left unattended. Sebastian had moved a little ways off, so James was standing by himself. Zeke had been held, but was let go in the officer’s haste to save the girl. Zeke grabbed James around the neck, making him cry out, just as the girl was let go. Now all of the officers had rounded on Zeke and James.

The red haired officer again spoke. “Please, let go of him.”

Zeke grinned sinisterly. “Why should I? He is our own personal little slut.”

Unbeknown to all, but a few, Dr. Rendell was a slut, and he used it to his advantage. Using his advanced abilities, he sent feelings of insecurity to Zeke. Zeke shuddered under the emotions, but refused to let go of his hostage.

James eyes were watering. He had thought he would be saved at the sight of the officers, but now he was afraid he might not make it out of this alive after all. “Please...”

All of the officers’ hearts were breaking. They wanted to save this kid so bad, especially those who have worked on the case since the beginning, but they were too afraid of shooting out of fear they might hit James.

James finally has had enough. He had been a victim this whole time, and he was sick of it. He was tired of being scared. All he wanted was to be with his brother. Suddenly, he felt a vision course through him. He saw his brother on the hospital bed, and then the vision was gone. James did not know what it meant, but he had a strong suspicion and fear.

*Enough is enough* James though. He wanted out of here and to see his big brother before it was too late. He picked up his leg very discreetly, and did a back kick into Zeke, where a guy never wants to be kicked.

Zeke hunched over, wheezing, and James took the opportunity to get away. Another officer, who had been at the hospital that was named Mickey, who had shoulder length hair and green eyes, grabbed Zeke before he could recover.

Sebastian ran over to James, who was standing with the red haired officer again, and scooped him into a hug. James was shivering, and he was glad of the comfort that Sebastian offered. The rest of the captors were taken out.

After a couple of minutes, James stopped his shivering. James remembered that his brother’s doctor was here, and broke away from the safety he felt in Sebastian’s arms.

He ran to the doctors, and latched himself onto the coats. “Dr. Rendell, my brother. I feel like he is dying. I had a vision. All I saw was him on a hospital bed, but I could feel his weakness.”

Dr. Rendell caressed his head in soothing touches. “James, he is fading. He is doing everything he can to hold onto life so he can see you. We have to hurry before it is too late.”

James had known it to be the truth due to the vision, but hearing it was a whole different matter. The doctor was about to lead James away to get him to the hospital, but an officer stopped him. “I am sorry, but we need to question James about what happened.”

James was near tears. “My brother is dying. I want to see him.”

The officer shook his head. “I am sorry. It is procedure and we need to question you.”

Mickey came to the rescue. “If it was not for his brother, they may not have ever been found. I think we can wait until they have seen each other Jared.”

The officer, named Jared shook his head once again. “I understand that you have been on this case since the beginning and you feel close to it, but I am still your superior. We have to follow the book on this.”

Mickey’s eyes showed anger and frustration, but he relented. He was not about to lose his job over this.

All of the captives were told to sit on the bed, but they all were too frightened too. Many of their worst memories took place on the bed.

The officers looked at the group with sadness. Mickey spoke up. “We will all go to the police station. We have room for most of you in our cars. All we need is one more officer.”
He left the group to call it in.

James was back to shivering. He was scared. His brother was losing his life, and Dr. Rendell had confirmed it. He had a sickening feeling that he would not be able to see his brother alive again. They had to wait about ten minutes, but the other officer did get there.

James wanted to be with both Dr. Rendell and Sebastian, and Mickey, who James was quickly coming to like, arranged it so he would be with both.

The car ride was uneventful. At the station, they were all taken into an interrogation room. Most of the captives sat in groups of two or three, depending on who they were most comfortable with. Only Robert sat by himself, after not making a good impression on any of the others.

The questioning started. All of the answers were relatively the same. Each were asked how and when they were kidnapped and what happened to them while captive.

Sebastian’s turn came, and James did not want to let go of his friend. Dr. Rendell forced him to pry his hands off, and took James into his arms to compensate for the lack of Sebastian.

The officer, who had not allowed James to see his brother first, was the one to question Sebastian. “How old were you when you were taken?’

Sebastian looked at his hands. “I was fifteen years old sir; I was taken a day after my birthday.”

“Who did you live with?”

“I lived with my mother. She was a single parent, for my father had left the two of us for a younger woman.”

Officer Jared nodded. “Which one took you out of the four?”

“It was Fred. He seemed to be the leader of the operation.”

“How did Fred get you?”

“I wanted to buy my mother a birthday present because her birthday was a week after mine. I was not working though because she believed in me getting good grades. She said that I would have plenty of time to work after college. I met Fred, and he offered to give me some odd jobs and to pay me. My first odd job was cleaning his attic. It was really hot and sticky in there, so he brought me some lemonade after an hour. I drank it down, and after a few minutes, began to feel sick, meaning I was dizzy and felt extremely tired. I lost consciousness and when I woke up, I was in the warehouse.”

Officer Jared nodded. “What happened to you when you were there?”

“At first, I was very defiant. They always took pleasure in breaking us. As I got more ‘punishments’ as they called them, I lost that defiance, and did whatever I could to avoid them. I was not a virgin when I was taken, so fortunately, they did not steal my innocence. They did rape me, and tape it. They sold those tapes for money. We were forced to do anything sexual. We had to use toys, and do role plays. We did bondage, and some BDSM. If it is sexual, we were probably made to do it. We were lucky if we got three meals a day.”

“What was going on, when we walked in? We saw you with James Devaul.”

Sebastian looked over to James. He did not feel comfortable talking about this; James should have been the one to discuss this. James gave him an encouraging smile, and Sebastian relented. The younger boy would probably have to answer the same question as well. “James had been raped. I know he was a virgin before, and when they get a virgin, one of them is the first. I know they did other things to him, or made him to do other things, and he was unconscious when they threw him on the floor. I had been too scared to protect him before then, but I had grown to care deeply for him. We are not allowed to touch each other, unless told to. I had followed that rule religiously. This time though, my fear for James' wellbeing overpowered any sense of fear for myself. I went to him, and held him. Fred came in and saw this. He confronted me about breaking the rule, but I stood by ground. I had been feeling guilty about not protecting James before, and I felt like I owed it to him.” Without thinking, Sebastian continued, “James had been doing anything he could to save us.” A few of the police officers looked confused because only two of the officers had heard the truth from the doctor. James buried his head in embarrassment in Dr. Rendell’s shoulder. Sebastian continued, “Fred was threatening to punish me. I had to be stupid and say that I did not care about punishment, as long as James is safe. He decided that the perfect punishment would be for me to rape him. He was hoping that this would break both of us." At this, Sebastian looked at his hands. "I still refused, and Fred had his hand around my neck, and it was tightening slowly. James panicked, and decided that he wanted to save me. He moved between Fred and me, and began to take my pants off. He was going to force himself to have sex with me to protect me; I gave in because I could tell that he was desperate to protect me. I was about to enter him when you guys came in." Sebastian had tears in his eyes. He knew that James initiated it, but he still felt the guilt of what almost happened.

James instinctively knew how Sebastian was feeling. He left the safety of Dr. Rendell's arms, and went to his friend. He kneeled on the floor, next to the chair that his friend occupied. He brushed the stray tear from his cheek. Sebastian's eyes showed nothing but anguish, and James knew it was for him. Without thinking, he hugged Sebastian with all his might, trying to convey that he did not blame the older boy for what had almost happened.

Sebastian hugged back just as fiercely, needing to know that James did not blame him. Mickey's eyes warmed at the scene. It was obvious those two have grown to care about each other deeply in the awful situation.

Officer Jared nodded. "You are done now Sebastian. Thank you for your answers."

Sebastian nodded, and still holding James in his arms, rose from the seat.

Robert was next, and then it would be James. James had been the last one taken, so it was decided that he would be last to answer questions.

"Robert," Officer Jared began, "How old was you when you were taken?"

Robert did not even bat an eye. "14."

"Who did you live with at the time?"

Again, Robert answered like it was no big deal. "I was in foster care at the time, and in a group home. I did not have a foster family then."

"What was your story? How were you taken?"

Robert closed his eyes, but it was not done in suffering. "I was walking home from school, and a guy, Zeke, complimented me on my beauty. He said I would make a terrific model, for he was a painter. He asked if there was anything I wanted to buy. I had wanted a bike for the longest time, and I told him so. He said he would buy me a bike, if I would pose for a painting. I agreed. After a couple of hours of painting, he gave me a drink. I asked to see the painting, but he told me that I could not until it was finished. I did not think anything of it because many creative people were really crazy about personal works and felt the same way. After drinking, I felt sick and passed out. I woke up in the warehouse."

"What happened when you were there? Were you a virgin at the time?"

Robert shook his head. "I lost my virginity at the age of nine."

There were gasps around the room from the officers, even James gave a little show of surprise. The other ones who had been taken had already known about that.

"Why did you lose your virginity at such a young age?"

"I wanted to. Should there be any other reason?"

Officer Jared wanted to ask about this because it sounded suspicious, but he knew that was not why they were there. That was not the questions that needed to be ask. "Were there other kids already when you were taken?"

"No, I was the first kid."

"So, who was the first one to take you?"

"Don."

“After more kids began to come, how did it change?"

"They needed some help to make sure everyone followed the rules. I became their little spy. If anyone did anything wrong, I would tell them. In return, I got regular meals, did not film as much, and got to be clean."

The officer sighed, "Robert, the way you are speaking, it sounds like you are disappointed to be rescued."

Robert shrugged. "I am. I have a feeling that no one was looking for me when I was taken. I had a better life with my kidnappers.”

James had known what Sebastian had told him about Robert, but it still shocked him to hear it from Robert’s mouth. Kids in foster care often got overlooked. It made James super grateful that he had such an awesome big brother. Otherwise, they might have not been rescued at all.

Robert was told they were done with him. James was called to come to the chair. James was shaking. He did not want to go by himself. Dr. Rendell’s arms were around him, but they were not bringing him any more comfort. The doctor and the officer shared a look. Neither liked each other, for they had different objectives. All the officer cared about was getting the questions in a very informal matter with no real heart. Dr. Rendell cared about James’ feelings and the state of his mind. They came to an agreement to allow Dr. Rendell to come with James, if it would make it easier.

“I was told you are 15 years old. Is that true?”

James nodded mutely. He knew the officer would have a lot of the information from his brother or Dr. Rendell.

“How did they go about getting you?”

This was the question James was dreaded. He knew his brother would feel guilty if the truth behind it was found out. Before he answered the actual question, “Will my brother have to be told the answer?”

Officer Jared looked at James closely. “It depends. I can’t say yes or no. Just please answer the question.”

James sighed, and Dr. Rendell gave James’ arm a reassuring squeeze. “I had asked Dr. Rendell about a treatment for my brother’s kidney cancer. He has been my guardian since our parents abandoned me in his second year of college. He worked his schedule so he could take care of me. I cannot imagine my life without him. As I was saying, I had asked about a treatment, but it would be too expensive and no matter how much Dr. Rendell wanted to, he could not cut us a deal. It would be like stealing from the hospital. I met Don, and he said that he was a photographer for ‘Be a Star’ modeling agency. He overheard the talk about the treatment, and told me that if I agreed to one session of photos, he would the whole thing, even if the session would not normally be worth that money.”

The officer interrupted James. “Did you not think that was a little weird? You seem to be a very bright kid. How could you fall for a scam like that?”

Tears came to James’ eyes. Was he really that stupid? Before either could make another comment, Dr. Rendell interrupted with a frown. “Listen OFFICER,” The word, ‘officer’ was spat like it was a curse, which was unusual for the normally good natured doctor. It even took James by surprise. “Your job is not to make James feel bad about himself. I have not known James that long, but I know he is a good person with an extremely good heart, who tries to always put everyone before himself. He would never think about hurting anyone, so he would not expect anyone to want to hurt him. He is not stupid, like you are implying. He is simply a little naïve due to having an older brother who shelters him and always puts him first. Now, you will get back to the questions about the actual kidnapping and refrain from making personal comments to James. Is that understood OFFICER?” Again, the word was spat as it was an insult.

All of the officers were a little shocked at the outburst. Mickey had to admit thought, he was really impressed. He knew that the doctor had wanted James to see his brother first, and Mickey had agreed that James should have been allowed to. The officer had said no and used his rank to do so, but Jared had no right in saying what he did to James.

The officer in question had anger in his eyes, and it frightened James. After a couple of relaxing breath, Jared nodded towards James. “Please continue your story.”

James nodded, but leaned closer to Dr. Rendell, who in turn, tightened his arms around the younger boy. “I wanted to save my brother more than anything, so I agreed. I was unsure about it because it did seem a bit weird that he would ask someone at a hospital, who might be mourning a death, to pose for pictures. I did not tell my big brother about what I was going to do. I knew he would try to talk me out of it. I guess I probably should have told him, and let him talk me out of it. Anyways, he took me to this old building. It was set up inside with cameras and lights. The first set of pictures, it was pretty normal with what I looked like. The second set of pictures, I was laying down, still fully clothed, but it was suggestive in the facial expression Don wanted me to use. In the third set of pictures, my shirt was taken off. He told me that I was wearing more when I went swimming, for I still had jeans on. To me, that made sense. My pose was even more suggestive then before, with me cupping my groin as well as touching one of my nipples.” James flushed here in embarrassment. He continued though. “For my last set of pictures, my pants were unbuttoned and lowered slightly, my shirt was still off, I was tweaking both nipples, and I made the facial expression as if I experienced an orgasm. Afterwards, he would be right back. He was going to get the check for me. He brought me a glass of water back, saying I looked flushed and looked to be nervous. Like everyone else, I felt sick after the drink and passed out.” James looked like he was about to have a breakdown, and Dr. Rendell hugged him closer.

Officer Jared wore an unreadable expression. “What happened while you were there?”

James sighed. “You have heard the same thing already.”

“Answer the question Mr. Devaul.”

James shrank back at the tone of Officer Jared’s voice. “I was forced to watch at first while Sebastian and Xander had sex, so I would learn what to do. After trying to turn away, so I did not have to watch, they decided that I would take part. I was forced onto the bed, and told to masturbate. I did so, but they had told me not to cum before Xander and Sebastian had, and I did. I was whipped with that stupid leather strap which had me scared afterwards. After the beating, I had to give oral for the first time to Zeke. A couple of days passed, and it got to be my turn. I was raped. Don took my virginity. I was also raped by Zeke. Fred raped me while holding a knife to my neck. At the same time, Don and Zeke forced me to give the both of them oral. After Fred was done, he cut my thighs. By the way, my thighs still have dry blood on them. George was the last to rape me. I passed out and woke up to Sebastian trying to comfort me. Sebastian told you what happened then. Do not make me retell it.”

Dr. Rendell just realized something. “Why have there been no doctors here. All of the kids are probably injured, and they should be looked over right away.”

Officer Jared turned hard eyes onto Dr. Rendell. “How about you keep your nose out of my business doctor?”

The doctor in question was not giving in. “Since James’ guardian could not be here, I am here in his place. My business is to make sure James is taken care of. He has just said that he has blood on his thighs from being cut with a knife. That should be looked at right away. I think any officer here would agree with me. Beside, you could be sued for failing to make sure every kid is healthy.”

Mickey came forward. “Dr. Rendell is right sir. We should have had doctors with us from the start. All of these kids must be looked at right away.”

Officer Jared was about to retort, but he saw that all of the other officers were agreeing with Mickey and Dr. Rendell. He knew he was outnumbered and knew which battles to fight. He nodded stiffly. “We will get these kids to the hospital right away?”

James had hopeful eyes. Mickey took note of it and spoke up again. “We will go to the hospital that James’ brother is at. It is about time they got to see each other, don’t you think?”

Again, Officer Jared was about to reply angrily that he was the superior, not Mickey. All of the officers seemed to once again be on Mickey’s side. They all felt bad for James and everything he was suffering. The officer relented with a curt nod.

James smiled beautifully. He was going to be able to see his brother. He could not wait.

The officer was not happy. He did not like being undermined by someone who was below him in the ranks. He did not like Mickey. The officer was too soft hearted for his own good, and was always too nice.

The ride was silent, but James could not sit still. Dr. Rendell had to hold him, so the young boy would stop bouncing. He just hoped that they were not too late.

All of the cars pulled up to the police parking. There were not enough spaces, so many of the kids were dropped off at the doors. In Mickey’s police car, in the backseat, Sebastian and Dr. Rendell was at the windows, while James sat in between the two. When Officer Mickey’s car parked, James kept pushing both Sebastian and Dr. Rendell. He wanted to get out, and both of them were in the way. Deciding that both the doctor and his friend was not going fast enough, James gave up and climbed over Dr. Rendell. All of the occupants of the car began to laugh hysterically at James’ antics.

The youngest boy of the car blushed, but he had a smile on his face. “I wanted to see my big brother and you were going way to slow.”

Dr. Rendell chuckled. “I was going slow on purpose. I wanted to see what you would do.”

James turned around in a huff. “We you hurry up? I am dying to see my brother, and I will go on without both of you.”

Dr. Rendell put his hands up in surrender. “We are coming.”

As the double doors opened, James saw the place he had first spoken with Don. He stiffened. He knew that if he had told his brother the truth about where he was going, this whole thing may have been avoided. His brother would have done the protective big brother thing, and told him that he was not allowed to go. James would have pouted and said that he was just trying to save him, but Markie would not have relented. In the end, he might have been angry, but he would have been safe. James was standing in the middle of the room, staring at the place he had talked to Don.

Sebastian came over and held him in his arms. He seemed to know what he was thinking. “Listen James, no matter what that officer told you, it was not your fault what happened. You were thinking about your big brother’s health, not your safety. Many of us were tricked because of selfish reasons. You, though, was doing something very unselfish. Stop beating yourself up. We have all been rescued and can all start the healing process. Right now, you have a very restless big brother, who has been waiting to see you for awhile. Do you want to really keep him waiting, while you simmer in your self-loathing?”

Despite himself, James smiled. He turned around to face Sebastian and hugged the older boy. “Thanks for being such a great friend through this whole ordeal.”

Sebastian smiled, but he had a slight hint of fear in his eyes. “James, I was hoping that we could hang on to our friendship. Just because we are no longer in constant fear for our lives, does not mean that we have to forget about each other.”

James did not even think before answering. “I would never want to lose you as a friend. I have never had many friends. I have always been kind of a loner, but I would not trade you for anything. I believe in having one or two spectacular friends instead of many decent friends. No matter what happens, you are my best friend.”

Sebastian smiled in relief, and hugged the younger boy tighter to him.

They were so lost in each other that they did not notice Dr. Rendell, the others teenagers, or the officers. Dr. Rendell cleared his throat. “This is wonderful and I am happy for you two, but I thought someone wanted to see their big brother.”

James smiled, but had a red hue to his cheeks. He had been the one who was in a rush, and he had totally forgotten where they were. He grabbed Sebastian’s hand happily, pulling him down the hall he remembered so vividly. He wanted his Markie to meet the one that had protected him, the one that had put his safety before his own. He had a feeling that his big brother would like Sebastian very much.

He opened the door with a wide smile, not even taking in the look of the nurse that wore a sad expression. He did not pay attention to the heart monitor that was not showing any activity. He ran over the bed and hugged the motionless body of his brother, receiving no response. He did not even receive a shift in weight, which he still would have done if he was in a sleep due to medication.

Dr. Rendell looked at the nurse, whose eyes were still downcast in sorrow. Sebastian as well, figured what was going on. Both Dr. Rendell and Sebastian moved towards James at the same time, briefly glancing at each other and giving slight nods. Both of them would have to be there for James when the realization struck.

Meanwhile, James was trying in vain to wake up his brother, who was not giving any type of response.

Sebastian gently reached out and as slowly as possible, pull him away from Marcus. James looked up in surprise, at being pulled. He saw Sebastian’s pain filled eyes, but his mind still did not register what it did not want to. He looked over to Dr. Rendell with a smile, clearly in denial, even as he saw the doctor’s forlorn expression. James looked at the heart monitor, showing no sign of activity. He did not want to believe it. Even when he had a feeling that he might not see his brother alive again, he did not want to believe it.

He began shaking Marcus, trying to wake him up in vain. The body remained motionless. Tears began to gather in his eyes. He thought he had been all cried out, after his rapes. I guess he still had some moisture in his eyes. He stopped shaking Marcus’ still body, backing away from it. The tears were not just gathered now, but steadily streaming. He breathing had become erratic. It felt like his heart was clenching painfully. He dropped to his knees, letting out heart wrenching sobs.

Sebastian’s heart was breaking at the sound. The only thing that had kept the younger boy going was the thought of being reunited with his older brother. That was the only reason why he had managed to hang on, and stay generally positive. It was the only reason why his powers had peaked. He knew enough about seers to know that the only way a seer could reach a non seer in a great distance was due to an extraordinarily strong bond. It was very rare, even in the most desperate of situations. Although Sebastian felt great melancholy for James, he began to have overwhelming feelings of wretchedness. He knew they were not his own feelings. James’ feelings must have been so over the top that he was feeling them as well. He looked around the room, and his speculation was proven by the looks on their faces. Everyone wore such looked of despair.

Dr. Rendell too, seemed to be combating the heartbroken boy’s feelings. He felt calmness trying to seep in, and knew they were coming from the other seer, James having told him that Dr. Rendell was the one to tell him about his inheritance and who the doctor really was. The two feelings were fighting, but James’ sadness was overwhelming the doctor’s calmness. He was breathing through the feelings of desperation. “Doctor, the only way for the feelings to stop overwhelming everyone is for us to calm down the source, James. Either we can try to get him to calm down, or we can sedate him.”

Dr. Rendell nodded. He did not want to sedate James, and he would try to do it the first way. Both, Dr. Rendell and Sebastian kneeled next to the quivering boy. The quivering boy, in question was so far gone in his own feelings that he did not notice the two people next to him.

Dr. Rendell nodded to Sebastian. He might have known James longer, but before the whole seer thing, they had barely talked, even if the doctor had liked James from the start. Sebastian was closer to James.

Sebastian put his arms around the younger boy, who buried his heart. He cried harder, now having comfort. Sebastian stroked James’ back, trying to sooth him. He could not really blame James for losing control of emotions. He probably momentarily forgot he was a seer, and could influence other people’s feelings.

James began to cry harder, and it did not look like they would get the younger boy to stop without sedation. But suddenly, his tears began to slow down. Sebastian looked down curiously and saw that the younger boy was asleep, or at least very close to it. He was whispering though.

“It is not fair. It is not fair. After all of this, he is gone. I knew he was dying, but I want to be with him.”

Dr. Rendell had kneeled down next to the duo. “I know how hard he tried to stay strong. When I left with the officers to get to your location, his symptoms were coming quicker. He did everything he could to stay alive, to see you one last time.”

James was still sniffling, but his head was lifting from Sebastian’s chest. He looked towards the nurse, who still had not said anything. “How long ago has he passed away?”

The nurse looked unsure if she should, but Dr. Rendell, her superior, nodded his head for her to answer. “Marcus Devaul passed away a little more than three hours ago.”

James’ eyes widen slightly. “If we had come straight to the hospital from the warehouse, there is a good chance I could of seen him alive one last time.”

Dr. Rendell wanted to deny the possibility, but he knew James was right. He had known that Marcus was dying, and had thought that they should go to the hospital first so that the two would be able to reunite before it was too late. Officer Mickey had fought for them, but Officer Jared had denied them the strong desire. He did not know what he could do besides using his seer to lend comfort to James. He could force calming feelings on him, but they would not be truly James’ feelings and they were only temporary. James had to grieve, and not be filled with fake feelings.

James stood up suddenly, making the ones still kneeling look up in worry. “I need to get out of here.”

Dr. Rendell quickly grabbed his hand when he made the attempt to leave. “James, I know how you feel. I know more than most people, if you catch my drift.” Dr. Rendell was referring to the seer because all seers felt emotions more strongly.

James nodded, but he was still facing the door. Most of the teenagers were in the hallway, or in other rooms getting checked for injuries. The only ones in the room was Marcus’ lifeless body, the nurse, Dr. Rendell, Sebastian, Officer Mickey, another other that James assumed was the first’s partner, and Officer Jared. For a short moment, James contemplated attacking the head officer. If it was not for him, him and his big brother would have seen each other most likely, even if only for a couple of minutes. The thought was shook away though. He hated the idea of violence, especially with what he had been through. He stayed still, silently telling the doctor to continue.

Dr. Rendell did go on. “You have every right to grieve. I am not trying to deny you that. You have admitted to being raped four times today. You needed your injuries tended to, and as a doctor, I cannot allow you to leave without the examination happening.”

James knew that if Dr. Rendell could, he would give James’ the alone time he felt like he so desperately needed. The boy who had his heart broken, turned back to face the doctor that he had come to depend on quite a bit. “Would you look me over? I do not know if I can stand the idea of anyone else touching me, especially a complete stranger.”

Dr. Rendell smiled, but it was void of any joy. He pulled the not protesting boy into a warm hug, meant to comfort. James buried his head deeper, trying to hide his face in the doctor’s shirt. “I was going to suggest I do the examination. I am not supposed to show any nepotism, but under the circumstances, I have a feeling it would be accepted.”

The doctor attempted to lead James out of the room, who hesitated while looked at the bed that still held his lifeless brother.

Dr. Rendell understood immediately what the problem was. Dr. Rendell turned back to the nurse. “Do you think they can keep the body here a while longer, so the little brother has a chance to say a proper goodbye after he is done with me?”

The nurse did not hesitate to nod. She knew that she could not do much to help the young boy that she had recalled seeing here so many times, but she would do anything that was in her power. She just wished that someone so young did not have to go through this kind of pain.

Dr. Rendell was going to lead James down the hall to an empty room. Sebastian was about to be led by a doctor that had just finished with Jean, who had 3 broken ribs, malnutrition, and a minor laceration of the upper vagina, to his own examination in a room that was located in a totally different corridor. He looked at James with questioning eyes, not sure if he should leave the younger boy alone.

James smiled reassuringly, but the haunted look in his eyes did nothing to appease Sebastian. “It is okay. Dr. Rendell has taken care of my brother since the beginning. I know him very well, and I trust him to the point of fault. That is why I asked him to do my examination. You need your own exam. Go; I will meet up with you later.”

Sebastian nodded, still not sure if it was the best thing, but he followed the doctor.

Don't kill me. I hate character deaths, especially a character I absolutely adore. I had already planned on his death though. It has to happen for the story to move in the direction I want. After this chapter, I still have not decieded if I will make Robert an impotant character in this story yet. He is not a favorite character of mine, but it could be interesting. It depends more on what you guys feel like. I could pretty much go either way. Would you like to see more of Robert? Drop me your opinion in a review.
