Chapter 8 - Final
Chapter 8
Since Chad left, Brit's life consisted of school, modeling, Colton, and Jayce, in that order. He practically lived in
Colton's house now. He was almost never at his house. His mom was currently home for an extended period of time because her
boyfriend broke up with her. The first time he saw her he scared her. She said she thought someone was breaking into the
house he looked so scary. Then again, before he saw her, he had been crying for three days straight since Chad just up and
left again.
That night Colton was really excited about this new model he had been working with for about two weeks so far. Brit was
unusually quiet but Colton thought it was because he was playing pacman. Brit wasn't, just watching the display screen sing
to him over and over.
"Colton... why did he leave this time?" When Brit spoke, his expression didn't change. Colton noticed that meant he was
incredibly sad.
"I told him to." Colton watched Brit's face, since Brit wasn't looking at him. Colton was waiting for when something would
happen and Brit would look up, but he never did.
"I wish I didn't love him."
"Did you want him to stay?"
"I would've never pushed him away, but I guess it's for the better. The few hours he was here with me, all I did was cry
really... Of course he would leave after we have sex. If we hadn't had sex, I can guarentee you, he would've fought for how
much he loved me."
Brit's phone rang. He looked at it nonchalantly. It was a New York number. He answered. Brit was surpised that it was a
desginer showing at fashion week. Brit hadn't gone to the casting call. He had planned on it, but he was busy sleeping.
That's all he had been doing since Chad left. Sleeping, visiting Colton's house, and going to see Jayce. BRit looked at his
recently empty scehdule and wrote him down. Over the next few days, about 12 designers called Brit asking him questions like
why he didn't come to the casting call. Brit went first come first serve. He liked all the designers he was working for too.
He'd be happy to keep any of their clothes.
"So, you're going to be in Fashion week?" Jayce asked as they walked through the park. Jayce enjoyed cotton candy and Brit
had a bite.
"Yeah, next week. I'm working all of the days, so I won't be able to see you. I'm really sorry."
"It's ok... so is it a big deal? This fashion week thing..."
Brit looked at him and giggled. "Yeah, it's really big."
"Oh, well good for you. So how do you get jobs like those?"
"Well, normal people go to casting calls, but since I was feeling miserable, I slept through those. And designers called me
because they saw me in Teen Vogue and GQ."
"Ohh, aren't those magazines?"
"Yes, Jayce, they are." Brit giggled again.
"Oh, well good for you. I'm sorry I didn't realize I knew someone of such high authority in the world."
"I didn't either." Brit was smiling as they walked.
"Just do really good. No pressure, but you know, make me proud."
The first day of Fashion week, the first person Brit saw was Josh, who lived in LA, so Brit coudln't believe he flew all the
way out here for fashion week.
"Brit!" Josh was so surprised when he saw him he said his name out loud. Brit, who had always found it impossible to ignore
Josh like he ignored his entire school, awkwardly smiled at him. He was very surprised when Josh wrapped his arms around him
in a tight hug. "I didn't see you at casting so I thought you were in the hospital for exhaustion or bulimia or anorexcia or
something. I was so worried." Josh held Brit at arms length, feeling his arms, and putting his hands on his face and looking
at him up and down. "Wow, you look so much healthier now that you've gained some weight."
"Hi Josh... it's good to see you too... I guess you don't hate me anymore."
"How could I hate you? We used to be conjoined at the hip... it really did break my heart seeing you in Teen Vogue, AP, and
GQ. AP you looked model skinny, but I could tell in Teen Vogue and GQ you just got worse. Although I was mad for a while, but
I know it was Chad who seduced you."
"Yeah, but it was me who seduced Chad into breaking up with you."
"I know... but I think you've suffered the consequences. Chad told me everything over coffee."
Brit didn't have anything else to say to him so he walked over to get his makeup and hair done. Colton came and found him.
"Wow Colton, you look hot. Let's go into a backroom or something. Damn boy..."
"Hey baby." Colton leaned down and kissed Brit's lips. He didn't want to mess up Brit's makeup or hair so he tried not to
touch him. "I just came to check on you... I saw Chad."
"I saw Josh."
Colton's face turned from sorrow for Brit to shock. "You don't think..."
"I doubt it. Josh is the only one Chad can't get enough of."
"Oh shut up, he came back to you, didn't he?"
"For a quickie, I don't think that compares to him and Josh. You don't know them like I do. They just... they fit together."
Everything clicked in Brit's head.
The designer called Brit over to help him get dressed with his first outfit. Colton went back to work and then sat in his
designated seat. Brit didn't see Chad in the crowd, but he didn't look for him either. He was the last model out, he didn't
have time to humor Chad. He saw Chad and Josh just standing there talking and laughing after the show, but he ignored them to
the best of his ability. He didn't see Josh the second day, he was modeling for another designer. The third day though was
Brit's disaster.
He arrived and immediately went into hair and makeup. He walked fine, but the person that passed him tried to mess him up.
Brit acted like he didn't exist, which made him look bad. From then on Brit was just generally pissed off. Josh was modelling
for the same designer, he walked after Brit. Afterwards he did see Chad. But he ignored him and changed into his
meet-and-greet-and-interview clothes. On his way to get his makeup off, he had to pass directly by them. Chad was hugging
Josh and talking to him, but it was noisy so he had to speak louder and Brit heard all he needed.
"Josh, I need you. You're it. You're everything to me. I need your help so I'm not an ass to you again. If you kick me out
again, I won't be able to take it."
In perfect timing, Colton walked up and hugged him. "Colton... I can't believe I was so stupid. Come with me to get my makeup
redone."
"What? Tell me everything."
"Josh and Chad are perfect for each other. They've always been perfect for each other. It was so stupid of me to try to get
with Chad. I mean, I don't even compare to Josh, I just don't. I'm not good enough for Chad like he is. No wonder Chad left
me twice. I'm just not Josh."
"I'm afraid I don't realize how that's a good thing."
"It's not good. I just finally realized it."
"Colton, can you excuse us?" Chad asked, walking over to where Brit was sitting.
"I'm sorry." Chad spoke quickly as he sat down, as if he would bail out if he didn't talk fast.
In Brit's head, he heard Chad say how he was with Josh. "Do whatever you want, nothings ever stopped you're sorry?"
"You don't deserve to be treated the way I treated you."
"What do you mean you're sorry?" Brit was confused.
"I was still in love with Josh when I ran away with you. Don't get me wrong, I cherish the time we were together. And I
really love you. But I'm sorry. I shouldn't have hooked up with you. I don't wish it never happened, I just wish it happened
on different circumstances."
"Chad, I don't work on different circumstances."
"I still love you no matter what."
"I love you too... I just don't understand really why you're saying this."
"I just needed to tell you... I'm going to live with Josh in his hometown for awhile. I want to be with him, but he doesn't
want me."
"Which is why you two are perfect for each other!" The lightbulb finally got to its full brightness. Brit couldn't connect
every dot until Chad said that.
"How?"
"Nobody is good enough for you, except for Josh. Because Josh is the only one who can break your heart."
Chad kissed his forehead and left. Brit made a rash move and after fashion week moved with Colton to England. He said his
goodbyes to Jayce, which broke his heart, but not for long. Brit wrote to him consistently every time he got a letter from
Jayce. He was on his way to becoming a very famous model, appearing in many different magazines. He got a job working in a
designer's store, modeling the clothes on the pricetag and selling them to the people that came in the store. He brought in a
lot of money once he practically became the face of the designer's garments. Colton's photography exploded. He went to work
for a London based magazine doing the majority of their editorials.
