Class Of 98

I slip out of Kevin's apartment at about 8:00a.m. When I get to the car I bawl my eyes out I cannot believe what I did to protect those I loved. I have sunk to a new low. I finally stop crying, start the car and drive off. I stop at a small restaurant and have breakfast but I do not touch the food. My appetite left my stomach as soon as I walked in to that mans apartment. I push the food around on my plate for a little while and get up to leave. I leave the waitress a five-dollar tip. Mostly because I am sorry that I did not eat anything. I walk out to my car get in and drive off. I drive to the library and spend some time they're thinking.

I am standing in front of a panel the heads of the college and the school board. "Miss. Showers, the allegation you bring before this panel you are sure this all happened?" One of the school board members asked me.

"Yes. Professor Thomas raped me after I asked him if I could turn in an over due project after being seriously ill for three weeks." I said.

"Very well. Professor Kevin Thomas. This panel with the evidence placed before us we have no choice but to take you off of the faculty. From this moment on you no longer teach at this school. You may clean out you office but you are to immediately leave the school. Do you understand?" The schools president asked.

"Yes I understand. I made a mistake and I will regret it for the rest of my life. Miss Showers if I had the chance to do it over I would not have done this to you. I am so sorry." He said walking out of the room.

A Cicero police officer walks up to me. "Do you want to place charges against him?" He asked.

"Yes. What he did needs to be punished more than what has been dealt here today." I said. I turned around and walked out of the room. When I left the building 2 Cicero police officers were leading Professor Thomas out of the school handcuffed. He looked directly at me. I did not see resentment in his eyes or anger like I thought I would see. I saw understanding for what I had to do for myself.

I drove home at about 2:00p.m. I get home and I walk down stairs. I put my suitcase on the bed to unpack it. I see my old black diary fall on top of the bed next to the suitcase. "Why did you not tell me about what happened?"

"I could not bear for you to know what happened. I was to embarrassed." I say.

"You could have told me." He says slightly angry.

"Yea and what would you have done? Everything was done with in a week of the event. After that all I wanted to do was put it out of my mind." I say.

"Where were you last night?" He asks.

"I was at Melissa's." I lie.

"No you were not. After I found this I called Melissa she said she was not having a small slumber party. Where were you?" He asks. I do not answer. "You were with him."

"I had to for the sake of the family. For the sake of us." I say putting my hands on his face.

"Dame it! You lied to me!" He yells pushing me away and then walks out of the room and the house. I follow.

"I had no choice! He was going to tell you and my family that it was my idea to do it to raise my grade!" I yell back.

"YOU SHOULD HAVE TOLD ME!" He yells.

"YOU WANT TO KNOW WHAT HAPPENED! HE PUSHED ME ON TOP OF HIS DESK STARTED TO FEEL ME UP THEN RAPED ME! WAS THAT WHAT YOU WANTED TO HEAR FROM ME!" I yell almost in tears. My family came out of the houses as well as some of the neighbors.

"You should have told me anyway." He says.

"Why? It is over now. I don't want to see you any more." I say pulling off the engagement ring. "Get everything out of my house back in England." I throw the ring at him and turn around and run in to the house.

"Amy?" Jackie asks confused.

"LEAVE ME ALONE EVERYONE!" I yell. I go down stairs and throw myself on my bed and start bawling. An hour later I stop. I look up to see a picture of Sean and me, and then the car keys. I get up grab them and then run out of the house. I head for Kevin's apartment. I get up there and bang on the door. He answers; before he can say a word I push him in to the apartment. "You asshole. Sean knows and so does my whole family. While you were getting your pleasure Sean found my old diary, I wrote what happened to me in there at your hands. Now were through. THANKS TO YOU!" I yell and I stormed back out of the apartment house.

I drive over to Melissa's house thinking about the first time I broke up with Sean.

My mother hated Sean and wanted me to break up with him. I could not do it in person so I called his work because I thought he was at home. But he picked up the phone. "Galvan"

"Hi. I thought you were at home." I said confused.

"I decided to come in today. What's up?" He asked

"Oh I had forgotten you were not there till I dialed and the phone rang I was going to live a message." I said.

"Yea what about?" He asked.

"I wanted to say I love you." I said.

"You have told me that already." He said.

"I know but I cannot seem to say it enough. Well I am sorry I have to run." I said.

"Alright, bye." He said.

"Bye." I said.

I had intended that to be the last time I talked to him. But it wasn't. I ring the doorbell. She answers and I start bawling all over again. "Oh my god Amy, what is wrong?" She asks bringing my in to the house.

"Sean knows he found my diary last night. I had gone to Professor Thomas's apartment to spend the night so he would not lie and say it was my idea. Now we are not going to get married." I say bawling louder.

"Don't worry once Sean figures out that it was not your fault he will understand." She says.

"But it was me who broke off the engagement." I say.

"Don't worry. Most couples do this. Now I want you to go home and get ready to come to the reunion tomorrow night by getting some sleep." She says. We get up off of her couch and walk to the door.

"Thanks for being such a good friend." I hug her.

"Don't mention it." She says. We say good-bye and I left. Melissa turned back in to the house. Sean came out of the kitchen.

"She really did it to protect me and her family from the pain it would cause. God I am going after her." Sean says and makes a shot for the door.

"Wait. Why don't you do it at the reunion tomorrow? I can get you in. This will be the best thing you could do for her." She says blocking his way.

"Your right. You really do look out for her don't you?" He says.

"She did the same for me once now it is pay back time." She says.

I get home five minutes later and my family is standing out on the front porch. My mother comes up to me. "Why didn't you tell us about this in the first place?"

"I was to embarrassed. Since he was fired and then placed under arrest two days after the incident." I say walking in to the house with my family following.

"How?" Cathy asks as I sit down my grandmother sitting next to me.

"I went straight to security with the evidence the school acted quickly and the police asked me if I wanted to press charges right after he was dismissed from teaching at the school and I said yes." I say. "Right now I just want to go to sleep." I get up and walk down stairs with Jackie following.

"Why didn't you tell me?" She asks.

"You were to young at the time." I say grabbing my night gown and go in to the bathroom to change.

"What about when I got older?" She asks.

"I didn't think of it then." I say walking out of the bathroom and sit down on the bed. Jackie does the same. "You see what happened to me was to scary and I thought if I told you I would scare you to."

"Ok. Well good night." She says getting up.

"Good night." I say and lie down to go to sleep.
