Time Away/Brian

A/N: Hey guys, hope you enjoy this chapter.

Bahri’s P.O.V

I sighed as Tyler walked in the opposite direction of me. He seemed to get more depressed the father he got away from me.

‘This is going to be a long day,’ I thought bitterly as I headed for the empty Darkalley Bats cabin.

Vlad was sitting down on the floor surrounded by candles. I

“So, we’re first starting with the vampire mind. Try and clear your mind so that it’s empty,” Vlad advised me as I sat down next to him. I sighed but closed my eyes and tried to empty my mind.

“What if I can’t,” I whispered as my mind kept getting filled with thoughts of what Tyler was doing.

“Let me phrase this in another way: Clear your mind of everything other than Tyler. Once you have done that focus on him, think about where he is and who he’s with.”

I concentrated on Tyler. An image of him came into my mind as I took a deep breath. Suddenly, I saw Tyler talking with Sara about something. He seemed to be avoiding one of her questions.

“Bahri, open your eyes,” Vlad’s voice said distantly. Slowly, I opened my eyes and looked at Vlad expectantly.

“You have completed the first part of the vampire mind: seeing. The second part is communication, though you have been able to communicate with me.”

“So, what do I do,” I asked looking down at my hands.

“Think about Tyler as you speak in your mind,” Vlad said. I shrugged my shoulders before closing my eyes again.

‘Think of Tyler,’ I thought. ‘I wonder what he’s doing…’

‘Bahri,’ Tyler’s voice questioned in my mind.

‘I told you vampires could connect through minds. What are you doing now,’ I questioned.

‘Latin, but we have about 15 minutes left before we have a break. Oh, and Niki’s looking for you.’

‘Thanks and I’ll see you soon.’

‘Not soon enough,’ Tyler replied before our connection dropped. My eyes snapped open and stared at Vlad for a few minutes.

“What do we have next,” I whispered, not looking up at Vlad.

Tyler’s POV

“Now class, we have a quiz coming up nest week. Study, that’s my only suggestion. If you have any questions, come to me or Mr. Bestale,” Mr. Hanson said before the bell rang.

I grabbed my books and hurried out of the class room. Sara was standing by the door playing with her pencil. When she spotted me, her eyes lit up and she hurried over.

“Hey Tyler, you’ll never guess what just happened,” Sara stated excitedly. I couldn’t help but laugh as Sara started to bounce up and down.

“What happened,” I asked watching her bottled excitement rise.

“Chase broke up with Bonnie and now she’s a total wreck,” Sara rambled in one breath. “And then Mr. Clockwork said that we won’t classes on Monday and Tuesday.”

“That’s the good news,” I asked raising an eyebrow. Sara blushed but nodded. “You were jumping up and down just because of Bonnie’s break up and no school for two days!”

“Yes. Tyler that means you and Bahri will be left alone for those two days. Only problem is Niki, but isn’t she busy planning your birthday party?”

“Don’t remind me,” I managed to say through clenched teeth. Sara smiled sympathetically before I was enveloped in a pair of arms from behind.

“Guess who,” a voice whispered from behind me. I tensed instinctively and tried to get away.

“Brian, get your fucking hands off me,” I hissed prying the hands away from me. Sara pulled me closer to her as Brian laughed.

“Is that anyway to greet your old friend,” he asked with a smirk. Sara growled and tried to lash at him but I held her back.

“Leave us alone, Brian,” I said calmly. He stepped closer to me and let his lips brush my ear.

“Do you really want that,” he whispered before walking away. Sara rolled her eyes before heading towards the health room.

“That jerk is so fucking… ugh,” Sara stated letting out her frustration. I smiled at her attempt to describe Brian.

“At least Bahri wasn’t here. He would have killed him in a second,” I whispered. Sara glanced at me before entering the Health room.

“Let the sleeping begin,” Sara grumbled as we sat down.

Bahri’s POV

“Vlad, I think I’ve cleared my mind enough for one day to be considered an idiot,” I grumbled as he asked me to ‘clear my head’ for the hundredth time.

“Fine, we shall work on something else then,” Vlad said rolling his eyes. I simply shrugged and stood up.

“Can we do something like… flying perhaps,” I asked slowly.

“Of course, if you want to get injured. You can’t fly until your mate helps you,” Vlad said smirking.

“I know,” I said sighing. Vlad nodded before his form melted into a cat. “Do you think Tyler is fine?”

“Bahri, he’s fine. Will you quit being overprotective,” Cat-Vlad snapped. I rolled my eyes but didn’t reply.

“Vlad, do you think Karsh will come for Tyler,” I whispered finally. Cat-Vlad tensed and refused to look at me.

“I-I don’t know Bahri. Your brother is very unpredictable,” Vlad whispered back. I nodded and stared at the wall opposite me.

Vlad changed back into his human self and sat Indian style in front of me. He sighed when I refused to acknowledge him.

“Look, if we head over to the café after another practice, you could see Tyler getting ready to work,” Vlad said looking at his watch.

“Fine,” I grumbled clearing my mind again. My breathing slowed and I felt my teeth and nails grow. Vlad smiled encouragingly as I felt my wings start to grow.

Before I could process it, my shirt was ripped and a pair of wings wrapped around me. Vlad sighed heavily before standing up and gently tipping my head back.

“Your eyes changed, well done. Try to change back. Relax and think hard,” Vlad whispered backing away. I took a deep breath and thought about my wings and claw-like hands.

Slowly my nails shrunk and my wings melted into my back. Vlad smiled happily as I finished changing back. Clumsily standing up, I walked over to a smirking Vlad.

“I’ll never get over the dizziness, will I,” I asked. Vlad shook his and glanced at his watch.

“We should start heading over to the café if you want to see Tyler before he works,” Vlad suggested. I nodded and quickly waved a hand over my ripped shirt.

The shirt was back on me without evidence of ever being ripped in a blink of an eye. I looked at Vlad to see his expression. He simply nodded and headed out of the room.

“How long do you think you’ll keep your mask,” Vlad ask smiling.

“What are you talking about,” I mumbled looking at the ground as I walked.

“Your mask is up. How long will it be up when you see Tyler,” He whispered. I shrugged as I finally looked up.

“Tyler is the only one that can get past my barriers. He controls me and i-it scares me,” I mumbled staring into Vlad’s eyes. “I’m admitting it; Mr. Puts-walls-around-his-emotions is admitting he is scared.”

Vlad stayed silent for a minute as we walked on. He glanced over at me and sighed, heavily.

“Bahri, I know this scares you. You know Tyler wouldn’t do anything to hurt you,” he whispered. I nodded as I opened the door to the school.

“I know, but it scares me that he can see my emotions without having to do anything,” I whispered slowly. Vlad sighed and opened the door to the café.

“You have to tell him soon,” Vlad whispered in my ear before heading over to Sara and Tyler. I sighed and followed behind him.

“Bahri,” Tyler said staring at me with confusion and joy. I couldn’t help the smile that spread across my face as I looked into his stunning blue-gray eyes. “W-what are you doing here? I thought you had to practice-”

“He did,” Vlad said cutting off Tyler. “Bahri is farther along then I thought he was. So, I thought it would be nice to surprise you.”

“Thanks Vlad,” Tyler whispered as he moved closer to me. I could sense that Tyler was holding back from hugging me and I knew why, but the feeling of fear rushed through still.

“Tyler, I,” I started but stopped as a peculiar scent reached my nose. It was coming from Tyler but it didn’t smell like him. “Who were you around?”

“W-what,” Tyler stammered paling a little. He glanced over at Vlad before stepping closer to me. “B-Bahri, promise you won’t hurt anyone.”

“Tyler, I-”

“Promise,” He whispered urgently. I looked into his eyes and found they had changed to a cloudy gray.

“Okay,” I mumbled. Tyler took a slow breath before placing a hand over mine.

“An old… friend surprised me by sneaking up on me. H-he doesn’t mean anything to me,” Tyler whispered as tears started to form. I felt my face crack before I quickly looked over at Vlad. He understood and started to move Sara away a little.

“Tyler, tell me the truth,” I whispered entwining our fingers. Tyler looked down at our hands before speaking.

“Brian, the guy, used to hang around me but I ignored him. Suddenly he became violent and started beating me up. I told Sara and Brian left me alone… until today, when he came up to me.”

I sat silently for a minute as I wiped the tears that started to fall from Tyler’s eyes. This kid, Brian, had beaten up Tyler and needed to pay for it.

“Tyler, I’m sorry. Vlad’s officially right,” I grumbled. Tyler looked up at me with a look of confusion.

“Right about what,” he whispered. I sighed and squeezed his hand gently.

“The fact that I’m overprotective, though some of it has to deal with the vampire side of me.”

“Some?”

“I’m naturally a protective person but with you… my protectiveness blinds me from thinking straight,” I whispered looking away. Tyler chuckled softly before turning my face towards his.

“Bahri, I have to get to work or my boss is going to kill me. You could help if you want,” Tyler said slowly. I smiled and nodded my head eagerly.

“Vlad,” I called looking over at him as he laughed to something Sara was saying. He glanced over at me before leading Sara over to Tyler and me.

“What is it Bahri,” Vlad drawled jokingly. I rolled my eyes but otherwise ignored it.

“Can I help Tyler,” I asked. Vlad shrugged and nodded. Tyler smiled and gave me a quick hug before dragging me off to the counter.

“Now, I’ll just have you tell me what they want,” Tyler said as he changed his shirt. I frowned as he put on a lime green shirt.

“Just be glad you don’t have to wear it,” Tyler mumbled as he walked over to the cashier thingy (very descriptive, I know).

“Did Sara read the book to you,” I asked watching as Tyler tried to get the machine open.

“Yeah, she just the read the introduction but it was kind of helpful. I found out some interesting things,” Tyler said blushing furiously. I smiled as he gave up on the little machine.

“How interesting,” I asked moving closer to him. He looked at me like a deer got in the headlights.

“I’ll tell you in the dorm,” he whispered, his blush darkening if possible. I nodded and backed away a couple of feet.

“Hey, can I get something,” a voice asked. I turned around and faced a boy with short brown hair and sharp hazel eyes.

“Sure, what would you like,” I said trailing off, hoping to find a name. The guy rolled his eyes but answered anyway.

“Brian. Can I just have a cup of coffee?”

“Yeah, sure, coming right up,” I muttered looking over at Tyler, who refused to look over at us.

“That’ll be one cup of coffee,” I shouted at Tyler. He tensed for a second before turning around and handing Brian his coffee.

“Here’s your coffee. Take it and leave,” he hissed dangerously. I flinched, glad it wasn’t directed towards me, and looked over at Tyler.

“How about you help me cool it off,” Brian said nonchalantly. Tyler’s jaw clenched as Brian leaned closer to his ear.

“Will you stop pestering him so he can finish his work,” I snapped walking over to the two. Both heads snapped at me: one of fear and the other of confusion.

“And you are,” Brian said clearly annoyed. Tyler blushed as he bowed his head.

“Bahri,” I said smirking. Tyler’s head snapped up and looked at me pleadingly.

“He-he’s my… friend,” Tyler stammered looking into my eyes.

“Then you wouldn’t mind leaving us alone,” He asked pointedly. I kept my face as calm as possible but knew my eyes said other things.

“Actually, I would,” I stated. Tyler flinched and quickly moved behind me. Brian frowned but got up.

“Fine, I’ll leave you two alone. Catch you around Tyler,” Brian said winking at Tyler. He looked at me carefully before walking away with his coffee.

“Why did you go and do that,” Tyler whispered into my ear. I slowly turned around and faced him.

“Like I said earlier, vampires are overly protective. When someone else talks to a mate in a suggestive manner, vampires get defensive.”

Tyler blushed a dark crimson color as he playfully pushed me. I smiled and pushed him back.

“You don’t have to worry about me cheating on you,” Tyler said looking into my eyes.

“Excuse me, I’d like to have a chocolate chip cookie,” someone said breaking our connection. Tyler looked down at the floor as I glanced over at the counter.

“We’re coming in a minute,” I said causing Tyler to look up at me. His eyes were teary and a beautiful clear blue color.

“I’ll see you back at the dorm. Don’t take too long,” I said jokingly. Tyler smiled but looked away.

“Don’t count on it,” Tyler whispered before moving to the counter to help the intruder.
