Chapter 38- Kingdom of Destiny

Yes... yes.... onward we must go... on to the fight...

Chapter 38

Two guards walked up to the main gate, that served as the only entrence and exit to this town, at least the only one known by the common people. The guards who had watched over it during the day had bade their comrades goodnight, as they left for some well earned sleep. The replacements were no slackers themselves, as they watched out for anything that could pose as a threat to the kingdom. However, out of sight, four people were already scaling the walls to break in, their figures wrapped in darkness, so as not to give away their true idenities. Reaching the top of the twenty foot wall, to of them simply jumpped down, while the other two chose to climb down. Once all four had safely made it in, they quickly kept to the shadows as they searched for a place that would take them in.

John awoke in the comfort of a bed with Jessica next to him. Avion and Midas had chosen two other roms to stay in. They had all agreed that once they had snuck in to wait until morning before trying to consult the ruler of this place. It was a chore finding a place for them to stay the night, but they finally found an inn that was still open. The innkeeper was rough on them for bothering him so late, but once Midas had paid for the rooms it was as if they had been first class guests. John laughed inwardly to himself as he thought of how quickly the man\'s expression had changed. But now that it was light, it was time to enact their plan.

\"Jessica... hey, wake up.\"

\"Hmm....\"

Jessica snuggled up to John more, not yet intent on waking up. Her body pressed against his, arousing him some. But he couldn\'t act out his desires now, not when there was other things to do.

\"Jessica, come on. We have to go to the castle soon...\"

\"Ok... ok...\" Jessica streached out and sat up, looking at him. \"Morning.\"

\"We better get moving. Aivon and Midas are probably up already.\"

Once the two were ready they left thier room, and searched. It didn\'t take long to find the two standing quite opposite of each other outside the inn. \"Took you long enough. Ready to go?\" Midas asked. When everyone nodded in reply, Midas headed off to the castle that stood at the far end of the city.

John looked around the sights. Much like in Aseli, the first new place John had visited, there were lots of stalls offering sales of clothing and food and jewels, yet it was all more expensive, much more rich in detail and material then the stalls he had seen before. The homes were much bigger too, but John had long since reasoned that because of the castle and the it\'s ruler\'s riches such things could possibly be afforded. The tall buildings cast long shadows some of them covering portions of the entire street they were on. While Midas did not find any of this important or interesting and continued walking at a brisk pace, John only wished he could slow down so allow him to take in more then just fleeting glances at some things.

When they reached the palace gates, they saw two guards blocking the way. \"I am Midas, here to speak with the king. Me and my companions seek entry.\" The guards looked him over and moved aside, to let them pass.

\"That was easy.\" Aivon said.

\"A little too easy.\" Jessica said uncertainly.

They walked the smooth stone path to the palace doors as the guards pushed them open. Entering the grand hall, Midas quickly spotted an emblem that showed where the throne room was. As the guards opened the doors, the small group entered and stopped a respectabe distance from the king. He gazed them all over.

\"I am King Uzaos, 4th ruler of this kingdom. To what do I owe this visit?\"

\"We came here on an important journey that may involve-\" Midas began but another guard suddenly drew his weapon.

\"You! Your him! That John Aaron!\"

The atmosphere in the room changed instantly. Several of the guards also withdrew thier weapons but while Jessica and Aivon tense, Midas and John kept calm. \"Yes, my name is John Aaron, son of Dias Aaron. I came here to find-\"

\"We have nothing for you!\" the guard shouted in fury. \"Now get out before we force you out!\"

\"No\" Midas said, very calmly. \"We are here for a reason. John wishes to inquire about his father.\"

\"You wish to know? Fine, we shall tell you, and then you will leave.\"

\"But your Ma-\"

\"Do not question.\" Uzaos said in an undertone. \"Understood?\"

\"Yes sir...\"

\"You see, a long time ago, this place was quiet and happy. Your father, an orphan, was a fine person. He was honest and helpful as I knew him, but then one day, that changed. We weren\'t sure why, but not long after his sudden change, we were attacked by a demon. We had no idea what it wanted, only that it seeked Dias. Whatever it wanted from Dias, it refused to leave our village until it got it from him. Then as quickly as he came, he left, leaving behind in his wake a scene of devestation. Dias refused to say anything in his defense, and our previous king exiled him. Since then, we have never heard or seen from him.\"

\"He\'s dead. He died at the hands of a demon.\" John explained.

\"A just death for him.\" One of the guards said. John shot him a look that would kill him instantly if it could.

\"You have heard the tale, now-\"

\"Your Highness! Emergency!!!\" A guard rushed in out of breath. \"The large demon with an axe has returned! It\'s attacked the town!\"

\"See! See what bringing him here has done!\"

\"We will defeat the demon.\" Jessica said.

\"What!?\"

\"Sure, I see...\" Aivon said realizing. \"If we can kill the demon, then you will pardon John\'s family. Is it a deal?\"

\"Hmm....\" The king pondered this, sizing up John. \"Fine. We have an agreement.\"

John smiled and withdrew his sword. \"Alright everyone, let\'s get going!\" They all nodded and rushed out.

\"Your Highness... will this... can this really...\"

\"If he dies in the attempt, then we never will have to worry about Dias\'s family. If he succeeds, then the demon will never return. What do we have to lose really?\"
