The Eighteenth Hour

Disclaimer : Still Mine and mine

-----------------------------------------------------

They danced. Silvan held her close by his side. Serenity had lost track of time being here with him. She was once again lost in the brilliant silver of his eyes. Corinthian people watched them. Sarai smiled as she sat back and watched her daughter be swept away.

“Happy birthday princess.”

Her whisper was soft. Sarai felt a tug at her heart though. Unpleasant thoughts of her daughter had to her mind. She was very much in love with Silvan. He was entranced with her. Any one could see it. What happened after tonight? Her eyes moistened. Sarai looked away from the dancing couple to try and regain her thoughts. She looked right in the direction of a waiting Corinthian king.

“Its hard to watch them grow up isn’t it My lady?”

King Tamin Demetrious announced his presence with his words. His hair was white naturally. His eyes were a darker shade of Silver than his sons. He wore a sleek blue sur coat that hung down just past his knees. He also had on knee high black leather boots which folded down. On the front of the fold sat his emblem. The face of a man with one green eye and one silver was seen. It was cast in a light, silver metal and fastened to the boots. He took Sarai’s breath away.

Silvan was cute but he was young for her. Plus he was taken by her daughter. What kind of mother would she be to think such things anyways? Sarai would not intrude or interfere in her daughters personal affairs like that.

“I am King Tamin Demetrious. It’s a pleasure to meet you.”

Her silence made him chuckle. He bowed lightly and grasped her right hand gently with his. He than would place a gentle kiss upon the middle most knuckle. Sarai tried to find a word. Anything would do. Suddenly it hit her. Wait? Tamin Demetrious? This was whom Serenity had said was her husband in the land of Corinthia! This was all starting to become more and more odd as the night went on for the poor woman. Could her daughters imagination have been this powerful? Could she have created this whole land just from her deepest hearts desire?

“I..”

She squeaked. How embarrassing! Sarai’s cheeks flushed with a bright red. She needed to try that again.

“I am Sarai Renwal. It is an equal pleasure to meet you sire.”

That was better. She some how managed to force the words out and remain calm at the same time. Tamin offered her a charming smile. That was rather cute to watch. He was glad he still had some effect on beautiful women. He thought his son might have just up and taken all the charm.

“Indeed.” The king whispered.”Indeed My lady.”

Neither mother nor daughter paid attention to time now. Neither king nor son paid attention. They only saw the ravishing ladies before them. Likewise, none saw the eyes that peered down from the darkest corners of the ball room. They were hidden deep into the shadows and he was simply watching the events unfold before him.

The hours would pass and only the clock gave reminder of the approaching time. As its tone struck upon the midnight hour, all eyes raised to the golden clock hands. It was time to toast the girls hour of birth. The clock bells sang out. The hour of twelve was complete.

“S..Silvan.”

Serenity gasped. It was beautiful but something felt strange. Fate once again had started to play its hand. Silvan was the first to notice. Other eyes soon joined his, even the jaded eyes from above. Their attentions turned from the clock to the girl.

“ It hurts!”

Serenity grabbed for his hand. Silvan pulled her to him. His eyes were wide in shock. Serenity’s eyes were changing. He saw shadows at first and than the black of the shadows that covered her eyes started to turn jade green. The pupil disappeared beneath the jade. The whites of her eyes soon followed. She doubled over. The pain that wracked her body was almost too much. No one knew what was going on, except the shadow above that is.

He knew this little transformation all too well. It was the time of change for the Veirian People. Their mental abilities matured. The eighteenth year marked their time of passage. HOW could THIS be happening to her, a mere human. Even if by some chance she was a child of Cornithia, this still could not happen. This could only happen to children of Veiri..

“Sire!” Veleska, the priestess of white, appeared at the door of the castle. “Quickly my lord. You must come this way and bring the mother!”

Silvan pulled Serenity into his arms without a second thought. He cradled her quickly and started for the door where Veleska had motioned. Sarai was quick to follow. She didn’t need to be asked twice. Tamin did not follow however. For his duties were here with his people and to quiet the rumors before they started. He would give the sisterhood the required time they needed to find out what was happening.

Veleska ushered Silvan, Serenity and Sarai out the door. Quickly her gaze moved to the forming spot of a shadow though. The king looked confused at all this. What was happening?! The priestess smirked and she raised her hand towards the sky. Silver and white tendrils of light shot forth. They formed a wall blocking the shadows creatures path.

“Not today my shadowed friend!”

The king blinked. Silvan raised a brow as he watched. Sarai was too concerned with Serenity to notice anyone else right now. Who was she talking to? He did not see anyone. Silvan would definitely need to question this.

“Quickly. To the temple. My shield of light will not hold him for long.” Veleska hurriedly pushed the prince and mother along. “We will be safe from his jaded eyes in the temple.”

“Who!?” Silvan yelled. He wanted to know what was going on.”Safe from who!”

“The walls have Ears with eyes of jade this night sire.” Veleska closed the distance between them. “The temple is just ahead. I can explain further when we arrive.”

“Talk to me on the way. What do you mean eyes of jade?” Silvan demanded. “Serenity’s eyes are turning jade. Does this have something to do with her?”

Sarai looked up. These questions worried her. Serenity groaned weakly. Her form lay now unconscious in Silvan’s arms.

“ Serenity!” Sarai cried out.”Serenity! Wake up!”

“She is alright!” Veleska hushed the panicked mother and the prince before he could anything.”If what I believe is happening than she is fine. It just takes a lot of bodily energy to change.”

“That’s just it! What do you mean change and WHAT eyes?”Silvan looked exasperated.

THAT creature I blocked was a shadow slave. A spy of the Veirian king. He must have noticed your recent activities and travels to the Earth dimension. So, he likely sent a spy to see just what was going on. You see sire. “ Veleska paused and opened the temple doors. “I did not hurry you away from the palace because of the Corinthian peoples reactions. I hurried you and my ladies away because of what the shadow might do to them since he saw Lady Serenity’s change.”

“Are you saying he is familiar with what is happening? Was HE the one to cause this! I shall kill him!” Silvan wanted to protect his lady.

“No Sire.”

Veleska closed the temple doors behind them and relaxed. She let a deep, calming sigh escape her. The creature of shadow could not enter the light temple. Silvan cradled Serenity’s unconscious form protectively close. Sarai turned to look at the white haired Priestess now. It was time to get some answers.

“So why is this happening to my daughter?”

“I have a theory but it is only just that. I do not wish to give you false information. Please let me show you all to a room. You may change and rest. I must go consult with the elder sisters about this.”

Veleska pleaded with them. She needed time to consult with her sisters for a correct answer. Sarai did not like it but it was the only option given. Silvan nodded to the woman.

“Very well. I know where the rooms are though. Hurry and find your sisters. I will take Serenity and Sarai to a room my self.”

“Yes your highness.”

Veleska bowed briefly before hurrying away. Silvan had regained some of his composure. He knew to let the sisters work. Their guidance had never failed him in the past. He knew to trust them.

“This way lady Sarai.”

He stepped off quietly with Serenity held in his arms. Sarai bit her bottom lip in worry and nodded. She supposed she would have to trust him and his judgement no matter how uncomfortable she felt.
