The First Time
Leah woke up around three in the morning. She was no longer drunk, but she still felt a little tipsy. The room was bright, and she noticed that the light was still on. Blinking to stop the stinging in her eyes, she turned over and saw Flame beside her completely naked, the covers tossed off him.
Thinking about what had happened before she went to sleep, Leah felt a lump in her throat. She examined Flame carefully. His hair had grown out since she met him; it was still blue, but right now the short hawk he wore regularly now was messy with bed head. His face was angular and beautiful. Her eyes wondered down his body, and she smiled to herself, wondering how someone who drank so much beer could have such a firm body. All this, though, didn’t compare to what had happened earlier that night.
He loves me, Leah reminded herself. He loves me, and he wouldn’t sleep with me because I was drunk. It might seem like a plain fact to some people, but Leah knew how much Flame wanted to be with her and how often people used alcohol as a precursor to sex. But Flame wouldn’t allow it.
“Hey baby,” she whispered into his ear, pulling herself close to his body. Flame moved a little but didn’t wake up, so Leah gently began kissing his neck.
“Mmm,” Leah heard him murmur. “That feels good.” Flame began to wake up, rolling on his side to look at Leah. He squinted at the light, just as she had a few moments earlier. “You okay?” he asked. “Are you feeling sick?” He looked at her with sleepy concerned eyes and ran a hand over her arm. It was then he seemed to remember they were naked, and he reached down to pull the covers over both of them.
Shaking her head lightly, Leah smiled at him. “I just couldn’t sleep,” she told him. “Happy insomnia.”
“Yeah?” he replied, putting his arm around her and pulling him to her. “So there’s no hard feelings about earlier?”
Loving the feel of his skin against hers even more now that she was sober, Leah pressed herself to Flame, burying her head in his chest. “From what I remember, you’re the only one who’d have a right to have hard feelings,” she reminded him.
Squeezing her tighter, Flame kissed the top of her head. “Well, I don’t, don’t worry. You drank a lot last night, and you… I don’t know, felt in the mood. I knew I couldn’t do that with you when you were drunk. You’re way too special for that.”
Leah pulled away a little bit from Flame and looked up into his huge blue eyes. “I’m not drunk now,” she told him, pulling herself up and kissing him before he could respond.
When the kiss ended, Flame looked at Leah with a confused expression. “I don’t understand-” he began, but she interrupted.
“Yes, you do,” Leah told him, her voice nervous but certain. “We’re here, we’re sober, we’re naked, and I want to be with you.” She looked at him with fear and hope in her eyes.
Flame didn’t know what to say. “You’re sure about this?” he asked. “Because, I know what a big deal this is for you and-”
“And I’m seventeen, and I’m in love, and everything about you, and us, and this moment – it all seems right.” Leah bit her lip. “I love you, and I want to sleep with you tonight. Now.” She waited nervously for his response.
His head spinning, Flame finally looked down at Leah. “I know this is scary for you, being your first time and all,” he said gently. “But I never expected I’d be so nervous.” With that, he closed his eyes and pressed his mouth to hers. The kiss was long and deep and innocent. It was the last kiss of this part of their relationship; they were about to move on to something else, and it was almost sad to leave this behind.
Flame had never had a problem separating sex and love, at least since Jodi had broken up with him; he had been with at least a dozen girls over the years. But Leah was different. With her, Flame wanted the love and sex to combine; and more than that, he wanted tdo whatever he could to make this a good experience for her, since a big part of him didn’t feel he deserved something so important to her.
Leah finally broke the kiss. She moved her mouth to Flame’s neck, kissing and licking gently. His skin smelled so good: clean, with a scent that was purely Flame. This felt right. She was scared silly, but this felt like the right times and place, and Flame definitely felt like the right person. Leah began moving her mouth down his chest and stomach, and stopped around his belly button.
“Come here,” Flame requested of Leah. She obliged, lying next to him. He kissed her again, gently turning her onto her back as he did. He placed his body gingerly on top of hers, his lower half resting between her thighs.
“To think that you thought you’d get lucky the first night,” Leah joked. “Instead, it took you over three months.”
Flame looked intently into Leah’s eyes. “I know this is going to sound cheesy as hell,” he told her. “But I did get lucky that first night, because I met you. That was the luckiest thing that ever happened to me.” He paused, obviously struggling with what he was going to say next. “You don’t have to do this, you know,” he told her. “I love you, and I’ll wait if you’re not ready. As long as you need, I’ll wait.” He looked into her eyes for an answer.
Biting her lip, Leah blinked back tears. Flame did sound cheesy, but he also sounded sincere. Leah had never loved someone the way she loved Flame, and she knew that she wanted nothing more than to be as close to him as she could possibly get.
Leaning up to kiss him again, Leah wrapped her arms around his back. She moved her mouth towards his ear and whispered, “You have condoms, right?”
Laughing, Flame pulled himself to his knees. “Yes, I definitely have condoms,” he told her. He reached into his nightstand drawer and pulled out a box. He placed it on the tabletop and lay down on Leah again.
Within moments, they were lost in each other. Flame kissed her eagerly, the reality of the situation really hitting him; he was finally going to be intimate with Leah. He had wanted her when he first met her, but getting to know her over the past few months and falling in love with her, he couldn’t believe how much more he desired her now. Before Leah, he never would have thought waiting for sex would be such an exciting and worthwhile thing.
Leah felt enveloped by Flame. He kissed the hollow of her neck with an urgency he had set aside for so long at her request; his skin was warm against hers, and his breath was hot. His mouth traced a soft trail all over her chest and stomach. With each kiss, Leah felt more sure that she wanted this. “I’m ready,” she told him. He looked up at her and smiled.
Reaching over and opening the box, Flame couldn’t help but notice that his hands were shaking as he pulled out a condom. He hadn’t felt this nervous about sex since his first time, and that had been different; that time, he had worried about performance and stamina, since Jodi wasn’t a virgin. This time, all he could think about was how he could relay to Leah how much he loved her, how much this meant to him, and how special she really was. Kneeling, he opened the wrapper and pulled out the condom carefully.
“I’m going to put it on now,” he told her softly. Flame wanted to make sure Leah knew what was happening every step of the way; he hoped it would make it less scary for her. Looking at her, Flame watched Leah nod, and he rolled on the condom. He lay down above her tenderly again, pulling the covers up over them as he did. He made sure to position himself gently between her legs and rest most of his weight on his forearms.
“Now,” Flame said as he looked Leah in the eyes again, “are you completely sure? We don’t have to-”
His words were cut off Leah’s kiss; slowly, Flame let his body drop onto Leah’s. Pulling away from her mouth gently, he smiled. “Alright,” he said. “I’m going to push in a little bit, but if it hurts too bad, let me know, okay?”
Leah nodded and bit her lip. She could feel her heart racing; Flame was trying hard not to break eye contact as he reached between her legs with one hand. She felt him position himself and move his hand back up to the pillow. Slowly, she felt him starting to press into her. It felt fine at first. His tip was able to enter her without much resistance, but that was what she expected; she had let his fingers play down there a few times in the past, making her more ready for the sensation.
Flame kept watching her expression. “I’m going to pull back a little now and then push in more this next time, ok?” he told her. “I’ll do that a few times before I, you know, go all the way in.” She smiled nervously and nodded. Flame pulled out a little and moved back in slowly; he was definitely feeling pressure and resistance, which made him nervous. The thought of hurting Leah, especially for his pleasure and benefit, upset him a lot.
The feeling was strange to Leah; there was pressure and some mild aching, but Flame was being so gentle, it didn’t really hurt. Leah didn’t know what other girls were talking about; this wasn\'t bad. A moment later, though, she realized she was wrong.
Flame froze, unsure whether to stay in Leah or pull out. He hadn’t meant to move much just then; he hadn’t even been entirely inside her. He had just pushed in a little and before he knew what happened, he heard Leah let out a small whimper below him. Flame felt his heart in his throat. “I’m so sorry. I didn’t realize you were in pain-”
With her eyes glassy, Leah smiled and shook her head. “Stop,” she told him. “It’s okay. I’m okay.” There was no reason for Flame to feel guilty; while the sharp stabbing pain had been unexpected at that moment, it also subsided to a dull ache within a few seconds. “I’m okay – a little sore, but it doesn’t hurt anymore. Please keep going.”
Swallowing hard, Flame was overcome with how much he loved Leah. He leaned down to kiss her softly before beginning to move again. He moved slowly and gently, aware of each breath she took and every movement she made. It felt so good to be inside her; while definitely physically pleasurable, Flame never remembered a time when he felt so connected to somebody. He might not deserve her, but he sure as hell would try.
Closing her eyes to concentrate on the feeling, Leah felt happiness wash over her. Of course, Flames movements still hurt a little; the truth was, though, the feeling of having him inside her felt good despite this. She felt so complete like this. As Flame’s movements became faster, Leah opened her eyes. His expression was more serious now, and he was still looking at her with concern.
Flame watched Leah, glad she didn’t seem to be in any real pain now. The feeling of pleasure moving over him was something he couldn’t ignore anymore. Speeding up his movements a little, Flame closed his eyes as he made his last few final thrusts and buried his head in the pillow as he came. He stopped moving, lost in the pure ecstasy of the moment, and then lifted himself back up on his forearms again. Leah was smiling below him.
“Hey,” she said softly. “Did that feel good?” Leah was nervous, and Flame wanted nothing more that to assuage her fears.
Flame smiled. “I can honestly say, that was the best feeling I have ever experienced.” He kissed her and pulled out in one quick movement. “Are you okay?” he asked as he repositioned himself next to her; he couldn’t help but notice as he rolled off the condom that there was some blood on it. He felt so guilty and concerned as he tossed it into the wastebasket beside his bed. “Are you hurt too bad? Can I get you something?”
Leah looked into Flame’s worried eyes and felt her heart beat faster. He really did care about her; he loved her. She had done the right thing tonight. “I’m alright,” she told him. “It doesn’t hurt much.” This wasn’t exactly true, but she didn’t want him to feel bad. Curling up close next to him, Leah closed her eyes. “I’m just so glad that I waited until now,” she told him. “I always used to question myself. But now, I know why I did wait: because I couldn’t imagine my first time anyway else, anytime else, with anyone else.”
Flame wrapped his arms around her tightly; somehow, he felt he just couldn’t be close enough to her. “I love you so much, Leah,” he told her truthfully. “I have never, ever loved anyone like I love you.”
His sweet words helped Leah begin to doze off, but Flame lay there for a long time awake with her in his arms. He gently touched her hair and ran one finger down her spine. She was perfect, as far as he was concerned. He didn’t know what he had done to deserve her – in his opinion, he had never really done anything good – but he wanted to spend a long time trying to become what Leah deserved.
Thinking about what had happened before she went to sleep, Leah felt a lump in her throat. She examined Flame carefully. His hair had grown out since she met him; it was still blue, but right now the short hawk he wore regularly now was messy with bed head. His face was angular and beautiful.
