Chapter 8- Until It Beats No More
Present Day
3:30 p.m. found Dylan sitting in the kitchen staring out the small window over the sink, just standing there in a daze. Silence had reigned for a substantial amount of time as the information of his younger brother had been given to him in a cold and clinical manner. So much swirled in his mind that he couldn’t concentrate on any one piece of information.
Riley broke the silence with an impatient huff, “It’s time to go see Darryl. His doctor should be there soon and today is really important.”
Dylan scoffed. Was that the understatement of the century, or a kind of ironic premonition? He moved to leave but it felt like he was moving through water. He couldn’t even muster enough energy for self-pity. He knew enough about himself that his mind was shutting his emotions off so he could function. . Before he even reached the front door, he was numb. He and Riley got into separate cars and drove back to Bison Valley Medical Center to meet with two men who could decide Darryl’s fate.
-------------
Walking back into the hospital was no less unnerving than it had been that morning. But this time there was no onslaught of memories. There was nothing going on in Dylan’s mind but a white noise that he was making an effort to concentrate on. This was his modus operandi when in distress. Shut down and close off. Vaguely, some time in the past, he’d realized it was this that kept him from making lasting friends, but he’d decided back then that it was the only way to keep himself safe. It kept him from getting overly emotional, a mistake he’d made once when he was young and naïve, with no one to protect him, and he’d paid dearly for it. This way he could maintain objectivity and, hopefully, make smart moves that kept him alive. Truthfully, this was his crisis mode and though he wasn’t facing a physical threat like he had before, he subconsciously felt the threat of despair and darkness that threatened to overwhelm him. So, he thought wryly, autopilot it is.
With an expressionless mask, he entered the room behind Riley. He watched as Riley transformed into this strange and really sick creature around his father. Gone was the ever present sneer and air of hostility. Instead he reeked of an almost overeager desperation of approval.
“Heeey Dare. How you feeling, huh? You okay? Did you get some rest?” he crooned in this weird, soft (read creepy!) voice. There was what Dylan could’ve sworn was an almost feral look in Darryl’s eyes as he gazed intently at his little brother. A twisted, saccharine smile worked it’s way onto his haggard face as he basically preened under Riley’s minstations.
Oh that’s just sick beyond words. Dylan thought, looking at the two with a horrified expression. What is up with those two?? And why does all this weird shit happen to me?! This doc better not try and hump Darryl’s leg like Riley is or I might just go ape-shit up in this mug.
Turning his back on the two, who were now whispering to each other almost like lovers, he just stared outside doing his damnedest to ignore his father and uncle. Unfortunately, the only way his mind would turn, now that it couldn’t focus on the present moment, was the swirl of Ven, Darryl’s past infidelity, and the ever present but comforting thoughts of Nathan. Being back in the Texas heat was melting his defenses and control causing Nathan to be always there in his mental peripheral vision.
Strangely enough, he felt, bud did not hear, the door opening. He just stood there and wondered at the phenomena. Idly thinking it must’ve been the doctor who walked in, he began to feel something different. The air changed and he felt someone staring at him, but he still hadn’t turned away from the window. It was like he was paralyzed. For the first time in a very long time, he was too scared to even try and run away even though his senses were screaming at him to do so.
Someone cleared their throat and said, “Hi. I’m Dr. Stephan Marshall.”
Slowly Dylan turned around and his greeting died on his lips. There, looking thoroughly shell shocked was one Nathan Taylor. Dylan’s air got caught in his lungs and his eyes widened to the same size as Nathan’s. He felt dizzy and could only register his bodies fight to stay upright.
He was pretty sure there were people talking but he and Nathan could only stare at each other. Surely, this was some awesome dream/nightmare where he was going to wake up, alone. Surely, his Nathan hadn’t just waltzed in here like an answer to all his prayers. Surely, seeing Nathan for the first time in a decade did not feel like the straw that broke the camel’s back.
Finally, blinking once, then twice the sound of Riley saying his name over and over again penetrated the blood pounding in his head. Riley had crossed the room and finally got in Dylan’s line of vision. What happened next felt like it was over in the blink of an eye.
Always hungering for a chance to humiliate Dylan, Riley slapped his face. “Stop staring like a fucking moron. The doctor’s been trying to talking to you for like 5 minutes and you’ve been standing there like a retard!”
Dylan turned stunned eyes on Riley. His brain was taking a moment to reboot, but he wasn’t too out of it to not hear and register the growl coming from Nathan. The young man with a glare like thunder whirled Riley around and punched him as hard as he could in the face with Riley‘s hands going up to reflexively to belatedly cover it. The surprised yell from Riley hit octaves only dogs could hear. Still seeing absolute red, Nathan fought dirty. He kneed Riley in the nuts with all his might and anger and the shrill yelp cut off as his lungs quit working and he dropped to his knees clutching his battered family jewels. Nathan still didn’t give him a break as he engaged his deadly knee again bringing it and Riley’s face together in a knockout collision. As Riley tipped back into a boneless heap, blood running freely from his nose, Dr. Stephan Marshall and Darryl McNamara could only watch on in sick fascination. Dylan however wasn’t watching Riley. He was watching Nathan and all the desire, both hidden and acknowledged that he’d fostered for the past 12 years since he’d felt safe with Nathan flooded his body.
“Nathan.” he whispered, breaking the silent barrier and garnering Nathan’s attention from his murderous gaze upon Riley. He didn’t trust himself not to break down crying in relief. He didn’t trust himself not to throw himself into Nathan’s arms and beg him to never let go. So silently, still holding Nathan’s gaze he walked out of the room into the hallway, leaving a stunned audience behind.
He walked out feeling rather than seeing Nathan follow behind him. The air around the two was a contradiction in sensations. It was tense and a little bit frightening, but thrilling on a level that neither men could have EVER imagined. Dylan stopped because he could feel he was getting lost. Unfortunately, it was in the midst of a busy hallway. It didn’t stop an eager hand from grabbing him and pulling him into an earth shaking embrace. Dylan swore for a moment the world shifted, like it had let loose the sigh of relief and not him. God, how had he survived anywhere else without being in Nathan’s arms? Everything, his dad, his newly found brother, his entire fucking closet of demons melted away and nothing else existed in that moment, but Nathan and his wonderful body being pressed into Dylan‘s core.
Nathan was vaguely aware that he was in the middle of his hospital trying to meld his body with another man’s, but he couldn’t find the brain capacity to care who was watching. Being able to smack Riley down like that had been satisfying and unreal. But now... Now, all of his senses were focused on screaming in delight and exuberance and relief and an overwhelming tidal wave of lust that Dylan was here, in his arms, clinging to him just as tightly and seemingly just as oblivious to the rest of the world as he was. He felt his chest heaving and knew it wasn’t from his exertion from his assault on Riley, but from the literally breath taking sensation of feeling Dylan’s heavenly body pressed against his.
This was not a hug. This was not even a lover’s embrace. This was like when the earth met the sun. This was mountains forming, oceans parting, and the breath of life all rolled into one at the collision of the two halves of a whole. Both within their hearts held the same exhalation. FINALLY!
Burying his face in the crook of Nathan’s neck, Dylan let loose another shuddering sigh as the man’s scent enveloped his senses. He didn’t know if that was him that moaned or if it was Nathan or if this was all some dream he was about to be ripped from. Just that thought made him wrap his arms tighter and tears spring to his eyes. God please don’t let this be a dream. Please, please, please let this be real.
He hadn’t realized he’d been thinking it so hard that he’d uttered the words aloud until Nathan’s lips moved against the shell of his ear in a husky whisper, “I’m here. I swear to God, I’m here and I’m not going anywhere, Dylan. God, Dylan. I’ve missed you so much.”
His voice broke with emotion and a decade worth of heartache poured from Dylan in a torrential rush. He could no longer hold back and now that his protector was here, he wasn’t even going to bother trying. His tears were hot and furious as his body shook with his silent sobs. Nathan’s heart broke at feeling his love’s cries. Never again. I will stop all his tears. I can’t think of ever wanting anything but to be right here with him in my arms. I don’t even want to breathe if I can’t have him. God, please let me have him, let me see his face every morning, kiss him every night, make love to him slowly on a lazy sunny day. Let me hold him on a stormy night. Please. Please let me love him for the rest of my life.
He opened his eyes when the weight of stares interrupted their emotional reunion. Dylan’s cries were still harsh and intense and silent, and Nathan knew he needed to be alone with the young man to make up for all of their lost and wasted time. I’m never holding back. I don’t know how I ever could. And Nathan knew with a bone deep certainty that Dylan was it, the one. He always had been. Even when he was a small fragile and shy boy. Somehow he’d missed the part where Dylan had been hurt to the point that it made him cry so badly, but he’d spend every waking moment and even every non-waking moment making it up to him, making him forget. Dylan was all that mattered. Riley, the board, this hospital, Darryl’s fucking failing heart could all go fuck themselves.
Somehow making it out of the hospital, Nathan finally had to break their connection to get Dylan into his car. Uttering a fearful mewl at the distance introduced between their two bodies, Nathan shushed him with a nuzzle to the side of his face. Even though his entire being was screaming at him to kiss Dylan he knew if he did even just a chaste peck would burst the dams of his restraint and his lust. He’d never stop until he was buried to the hilt in Dylan and he wasn’t about to sully their first time with the back seat of a car in a crowded parking lot. With Dylan still so distraught, Nathan would be damned before he betrayed the trust Dylan was placing in him by allowing something so undeserving to mar their reunion. The start of their relationship. The start of “us” and “we”.
“It’s ok baby. We just have to leave here.” he said tightening his slacking hold on Dylan. His voice dropped in timber and he leaned in to whisper, “I’m gonna hold you all night long, I swear to God, I’m never letting you go Dylan. But I’ve got to get us home, ok?”
Only registering the look and promise in Nathan’s eyes, Dylan gazed at Nathan with the tears gathering on his lashes and nodded his agreement. I’ll do whatever as long as it means I can be with you were the words Dylan wanted to say but couldn’t get out. His eyes might as well have shouted the words though because Nathan’s eyes lit up at the vow his own were trying to make.
Nathan quickly got into the driver’s seat and shot like a bat out of hell from the parking lot bound for home and Dylan’s waiting arms.
--------------------------
The ride was spent in silence. They both stared straight ahead. No words would come and even though they were warranted. So many questions unanswered and over a decades worth of heartache sat in between the two and vaguely Nathan wondered if he was skipping a vital step. Dylan was acknowledging something of that nature, too, but neither could spare too much thought for the moment. Later the explanations and apologies would come. But for right now both were dealing with the overwhelming power of just being in the other’s company. Words would come later. Thinking would come later. Now was just for them.
Pulling into his drive, Nathan and Dylan wasted no time in getting out. Nathan needed to touch Dylan. Dylan was the only thing keeping Nathan’s legs moving forward moving them towards their final destination. He was the reason Nathan breathed in and out and the only reason Nathan could even live at the moment and having him right there made Nathan feel more alive than anything else in his past existence.
They hadn’t touched each other walking up the walk way. They didn’t move to even brush their clothing when they entered in. Even the hint of a touch would have been the spark to the powder keg of desire that was resting just beneath their skin. But as soon as the door shut and Dylan turned to face Nathan all bets were off. Rushing back into Nathan’s arms, Dylan didn’t even try and hide his desire. It was right there displayed to Nathan’s eager eyes and he devoured Dylan’s mouth. Their lips met in a furious dash. It was rough and beautiful in it’s violence. Their gasps of a finally realized pleasure were lost amidst the tangle of tongues as they each tried to dominate.
Their bodies met again in the same way as at the hospital, pressing into each other just trying to touch every part of the other. Dylan’s arms were wound tightly around Nathan’s neck holding their heads in place as their mouths opened wide to take the other in. Nathan’s arms wrapped around Dylan’s torso and it almost felt like he was trying to press all the air from his lungs into his hungry mouth. They were heedless of the gulping and devouring sounds they made, the moans that were wild with hunger as they just focused on the ultimate pleasure of feasting on lips, tongues, and teeth. But Nathan’s arm moved, his hand wandered a little farther south, and suddenly their tableau went from still and passionate to unbridled and demanding. Their shirts were ripped from their bodies heedless of the tears they were making in the fabric.
Once Nathan had removed Dylan’s undershirt, he pressed their naked chests together and moaned at this new level of pleasure. Dylan couldn’t resist. The one movement from Nathan demanded another and another and he could not stop the pull to start writhing and undulating against Nathan, trying to draw more gasps from his kiss swollen lips. His hips ground against Nathan’s and the tantalizing brush of their cocks sent sparks flying down his spine and he mewled with pleasure right into Nathan’s mouth. Everything zeroed down to the feel of two hardened lengths causing friction to each other. Dylan couldn’t think, couldn’t breath from the indescribable feel of the two of them participating and wanting to participate equally.
Nathan’s hands went to Dylan’s hips as he aided in what was becoming down right slamming dicks into each other at a fevered pace. He gripped Dylan’s hips tightly, leaving bruises of passion on his skin.
“Fuck Dylan… Ahh…Damnit babe-Nnnghh…” he murmured into Dylan’s neck lustfully. He kissed sucked and bit the flesh right there, staking his claim on Dylan’s body. Years of fantasies faded away at the fulfillment of having Dylan writhing in pleasure in his arms.
Dylan was a whimpering mess, rutting against any part of Nathan he could reach and hanging onto him with his arms around his neck, nails digging into the tense muscle, clinging for dear life.
“Nathan…Oh god Nathan… Nnngn…. Nathan.” he chanted over and over in his mind and out loud. Nathan slammed his lips back to Dylan’s as he heard his soon-to-be lover’s whimpers of pleasure grow in volume and intensity. They moaned simultaneously as Dylan ground his hips in circles on Nathan’s. The friction, oh that delicious friction, was starting to pool, that deep heat growing towards an explosion. Dylan could feels his ball drawing up preparing for his orgasm and he needed it. He needed to come for Nathan and Nathan alone. That thought had him pulling back for a breath of air he whispered reverently, “Nathan.” and exploded from the inside. Back bowing, he came violently against Nathan’s cock. The spreading wet heat from Dylan and his name being said over and over in that breathy voice of an extreme arousal pushed Nathan over the edge into the blinding white euphoria. He wrenched Dylan back enough for his mouth to clamp down on Dylan’s lips and he fucked his mouth as his hips jerked against Dylan’s adding his own cum to the soaked cloth separating them.
The power, the indescribable almost painful power of his orgasm made Dylan dizzy. He swayed bonelessly in Nathan’s arms as the aftershocks went off in every part of his body from his ears down to his toes. He couldn’t even stop his hips from their lazy thrusts as wave after softening wave of pleasure rolled through him.
“Mmm. Nathan…” he whispered, against Nathan’s mouth, causing a shiver to roll down Nathan’s spine.
“God, Dylan. I gotta have the rest of you.”
“Mmm. Please.” he responded, still not quite coherent.
Nathan started walking them backwards toward the bedroom. He ignored the uncomfortable wet fabric that was soaked with both of their cum and the fact that his dick was still rock hard and ready to go for round two. Still holding Dylan closely but loosely, Nathan looked at the relaxed face and gentle grin and softly said, “Dylan. I love you.”
Dylan froze. Had he heard him right? His heart felt like it was kick starting after being dead for so long and it was almost excruciating in it’s exuberance. He looked at Nathan with pupils dilated and breath quickening. Nathan had a half second of fear before Dylan spoke and said, “Nathan, I love you too. I always have. I always will. I’ve never sto-”
He didn’t get to finish his declaration as the first five words he spoke sunk into Nathan’s sex addled brain and demanded he taste those lovely lips speaking such lovely things to him. Dylan loved him! They were finally in love AND together. And we always will be, his heart sang.
Gripping him hard once more, Nathan began to ravish his mouth in a mimicry of how he would ravish his body in just a few moments. The hungry sounds surfaced once more as Dylan surrendered to his instincts and just let go knowing Nathan would be there to catch him.
Nathan’s hands sank into Dylan’s ass to once more to bring their cocks back into contact. He wanted, needed to feel that perfect pressure again, but this time it didn’t sate the fire. It stoked it. More! his body screamed. Fumbling fingers went to undo Dylan’s pants and he sighed in relief when he brushed the top of Dylan’s patch of curls without encountering any underwear.
“Nathan…”
Nathan stroked the hardened cock of Dylan with light touches from the back of his hand as he stared intently at his lover’s blissful expression and could not hold back the smirk when a firmer stroke caused Dylan to gasp and his lips to curl into a smile. He cupped Dylan’s erection and was rewarded with a thrust and such a beautiful moan from the kiss swollen lips it made him groan in response. The dilated eyes of Dylan gazed straight into his and Dylan’s smile grew.
Lost on the tide of desire, Dylan could not hold back from telling Nathan what he’d had to hold back all those years ago. “Mmmm… Nathan I love you so much….God, don‘t stop. Please don‘t stop Nathan.” he whispered not breaking eye contact, carding his fingers through the short hairs at the nape of Nathan’s fingers.
Nathan wavered, wanting to get lost in the feel of those fingers massaging his scalp, until Dylan pulled him close to say against his lips, “Bed.”
In a rush Nathan didn’t stop pushing Dylan back until they both crashed onto the bed. Letting his weight rest on the younger man, he dove back to the lips that held his salvation. It was like coming home when his tongue slipped into the waiting mouth and he tasted every inch, every soft corner. For what seemed like a glorious eternity they just lay there, making out like teenagers enjoying the one small act that had been denied them for so long.
Dylan loved the feeling on Nathan on top of him. It was safe and warm and exhilarating. It grounded him to the one thing in life he’d desired a connection to. The one thing that he’d been chasing all along, moving from city to city looking for. And now, here it was making love to his mouth and showing no sign of leaving him alone.
Needing to feel more of Nathan, Dylan left his legs fall open for Nathan to settle in between. These were the intimate things he’d been desiring since he could remember. Just skin against skin, someone wanting nothing more than just to be with you. Oh they would go so much farther than just this, but for right now, it was perfect.
