Chapter 7 - Bad Friday
Well, the date had been a total bust. Jack’s bitch/slut of a cousin had gotten on Stephanie’s last nerve, and she wasn’t so sorry that dinner had to be called to an end a bit early. She was sure that even Jack wasn’t feeling very well, as he had to excuse himself moments after she had come back from her “talk” with Joe. Poor thing. She hoped he hadn’t gotten food poisoning or anything like that.
After the date had officially ended, Jack had driven home with his cousin. Stephanie was worried that Jack wasn’t feeling well, so she volunteered to walk home instead. Joe agreed to escort her.
As they walked back to her apartment, Stephanie noticed that Joe seemed a lot quieter than usual. He wasn’t usually much of a talker anyway, but his complete lack of snide remarks directed at her made Stephanie feel uncomfortable. She wondered if she had somehow hurt his feelings or something.
Joe followed Stephanie up to her apartment. As she unlocked her door and entered, she didn’t feel Joe’s warm presence behind her. She turned, only to realize that he was still at her door.
“Joe?”
Joe lifted his head until his dark brown eyes met Stephanie’s. He looked as if he was thinking about something.
“Are you coming in?”
He didn’t answer but walked in anyway. He slowly closed the door behind him.
“You’re not still sour about not being able to hook up with Cousin von Slutty, are you?” she asked jokingly. Joe attempted a smile but still didn’t say anything. Okay, something was really wrong. “Are you okay, Joe?”
He looked at her again, and Stephanie got scared. He was about to say something, and Stephanie was certain that she wasn’t going to like it.
“I don’t think Tanya is Jack’s cousin, Steph.”
“What? Why not?”
Joe paused, as if he was thinking about what to say. “I saw them doing something that cousins don’t normally do…well, not in the state California, at least.”
“Oh yeah?” Stephanie asked skeptically. “And what was that?”
“Tanya was giving your boy, Jack, a good old-fashioned rubdown under the table,” he answered.
Stephanie’s face had no discernible expression in response to Joe’s statement.
And then, she laughed. “Joe, that’s pretty sick. Even for you.”
Joe blinked. “Steph, I’m not kidding about this.”
Stephanie continued to laugh. Pretty soon, she forgot what she was laughing at but kept at it anyway. She turned her back to Joe and had to grip the edge of her leather sofa for support.
“Steph,” Joe called out, reaching his arm out to comfort her. “I’m serious.” He wrapped his large hand around Steph’s arm.
“Don’t touch me,” Stephanie eked out as her laughter finally subsided.
“Steph,” Joe called out again.
“I said don’t touch me!” Stephanie shrieked, shaking Joe’s grip off.
Joe released her arm and stepped back. “What the f-
“You are so pathetic!”
“Excuse me?” Joe asked, clearly pissed.
“Why would you make up such an ugly lie? God, just because you’re pissed that you weren’t able to hook up with Sluttina –
“I didn’t make it up!” Joe roared. “Lady, I’m just trying to help you out here. I know what I saw, and I’m just warning you. That’s all!”
“Jack wouldn’t lie to me,” Stephanie defended.
“He already has, Steph. Face it, Prince Charming doesn’t exist except in your head.”
Stephanie’s sharp green eyes came up to glare at Joe. “Get out. I won’t be mocked in my own apartment.”
Joe turned around and immediately opened the door. “My pleasure, Princess,” he began sarcastically. “Oh, and the next time I get the urge to help you out…I won’t.” He left abruptly and slammed the door behind him.

Two good things were happening today – Friday. First and foremost, Jacy was returning from San Diego. Stephanie loved Delaney, but Jacy’s company was always missed when she wasn’t present. Secondly, Jack’s horrible cousin was returning to New York.
Considering how badly things had gone that Tuesday evening, Stephanie was banking on the good. She hadn’t seen or heard from Joe since that night, and she was pretty sure that she didn’t want to anyway. In her opinion, Joe had been completely out of line with his lies and accusations. He had also made fun of Stephanie’s ideals, and she would never forgive him for that.
Jacy had actually managed a flight to LAX for 7pm that evening, so Stephanie was waiting for her friend at the terminal from San Diego. Stephanie noticed Jacy’s pudgy little form from afar and called to her.
“Jacinda!”
Jacy scowled at the use of her full name. But the scowl soon melted into a smile as she scurried over to her best friend.
“Oof,” Jacy uttered as Stephanie scooped her into a tight hug. “Geez, Steph. I’ve been gone for one week, dear.”
“I missed you!” Stephanie shrieked.
Jacy patted Stephanie on the back and pulled away from the hug. “So…did I miss anything?”
Stephanie bit her lip, hesitant to answer just now. “How ‘bout I tell you over dinner?”
Jacy’s hazel eyes sparkled. “God made us friends for a reason, Steph.”
****
“I can’t believe Joe would do that!” Jacy mumbled while chewing on her bacon double cheeseburger. “That doesn’t sound like him at all.”
“Well believe it,” Stephanie responded, sipping on her iced tea. “Sometimes Joe can be so smug…like he knows everything about everyone.”
“Well, he is a smart guy.”
“And that’s about it,” Stephanie answered. “He completely lacks heart and emotion.” Well, that wasn’t fair. Joe had had difficulties within his family, and even though he hid his emotions most of the time, he had spilled everything to Stephanie and –
No. Stephanie was tired giving Joe Estes the benefit of the doubt. Fuck fair. He had lied and made fun of Stephanie, and she wasn’t going to let that go.
“Well, I’ll just have to remind Delaney that you and he can’t be in the same room together. It would be nice if you guys could get along though.” Jacy took a sip of her milkshake. “Hey, if Joe apologizes –
“He won’t,” Stephanie interrupted. “And even if he would, I don’t care. This goes beyond apologizing.”
“Geez.”
Stephanie wanted to change the subject. “Hey. Wanna go spend Dad’s money on Rodeo Drive?”
Jacy groaned. “Steph, you know I don’t fit into any of those clothes.”
“Come on,” Stephanie pleaded. “We can make fun of the Paris Hilton wannabes.”
Jacy regarded Stephanie humorously. “Including you?”
Stephanie huffed. “Be nice.”
Jacy crossed her fingers right in Stephanie’s line of vision. “I’ll do my best.”
“Oh,” Stephanie announced, suddenly getting all excited. “Since we’re in LA, I can take you over to Jack’s beach house. He said that he’d be there over this weekend. I’ve seen pictures of it, and it’s freakin’ awesome!”
“Cool,” Jacy answered. “I always wanted to visit the houses of as many rich people as I could before I died.”
Stephanie couldn't help but laugh at that.
****
“Are you sure he won’t be upset that you’re bringing me over unannounced?” Jacy asked as Stephanie parked her car on the driveway of Jack’s beachfront house.
“I’m sure,” Stephanie answered, shutting her door, “but stay put for a second, okay? I want to tell him first, then I’ll beckon you in, kay?”
“Kay,” Jacy answered, reclining the passenger seat. “I’ll be here.”
Stephanie smiled before walking up the cobblestone walkway that led to the back door. Jack had said that the back door leading to the beach was always unlocked. Stephanie didn’t feel that it was actual trespassing – not if the actual owner had told her that this was the door that was always unlocked – so she turned the handle and the door unsurprisingly opened.
“Jack?” she called out. She heard loud, alternative music blasting from the upstairs and followed the noise. “Jack?” she called out again as she located the stairs.
Stephanie slowly ascended the stairs. She hadn’t ever been in the beachfront home before, so she wasn’t sure which room belonged to Jack. As she reached the upstairs hallway, she continued to follow the loud music. It was coming from the room on the opposite end of the hallway. She walked down the dark hallway, which didn’t have any windows, unlike the rest of the house. The door had been left slightly open, and as Stephanie got closer, she heard something else – something that sounded like thumping. Rhythmic thumping. Stephanie peeked through the sliver of light that the slightly opened door had allowed to seep through.
And she saw it.
“Cousin” Tanya was on top of Jack’s lower body, grinding it like some sex-crazed maniac. As she bounced up and down, Jack was thrusting upwards. The resulting impact sent Tanya’s synthetic C-cups flying in every which direction. Distinct moaning could be heard in the midst of all of Jack’s loud music.
“Fu-uck,” Jack grunted.
“Aaaaah, fuck me Jack!” Tanya screamed. “Oh, baby! Fuck me harder!”
Jack’s strong hands gripped Tanya’s buttocks, and he jammed himself into her at full force. Tanya’s screams echoed throughout the room.
“Yes, Jackson! Come on! Give me something to remember you by, baby!” As Jack pushed himself into her, Tanya began to rub frantically at her clit. The sound of wet flesh being stroked could be heard.
Tanya’s panting became frenetic, and Jack had to huff and puff in order to prevent coming too early. Tanya’s moans grew louder as she neared her climax. Then, she closed her eyes and let out the loudest scream Stephanie had ever heard in her life.
“Fuuuuuccccckkkkkkkkk!” Her eyes opened instantly as she slapped Jack’s naked, tight six-pack abs. “Mmm, baby…that was so good.” She stayed perched on top of Jack and stretched. Her eyes wandered aimlessly around the room…until they eventually made contact with Stephanie’s. A sinister smile appeared on Tanya’s face. The bitch knew.
“Jackson, honey…I think we have a visitor.”
Jack rose abruptly. “What?” He stared toward the door. He was looking straight at Stephanie, but he didn’t know it right away. Stephanie’s eyes widened in surprise. Panicking, she spun around and retreated down the hallway. Jack had already thrown the door open just as Stephanie reached the top of the stairs. He had wrapped a towel around his lower half. When he saw Stephanie, his own eyes widened in shock.
“Steph!”
Stephanie ran down the stairs as fast as her short legs could take her. Jack tore down the hallway at full speed and had reached Stephanie by the time they reached the bottom of the stairs. She tried to keep running, but Jack grabbed her arms and spun her around.
“Let me go!” she screamed.
“Steph, I need you to calm down!”
“Are you kidding me?” she yelled. “What, you wanna explain this? How are you going to explain this, Jack?”
“Tanya’s not my cousin.”
“Duh!”
“You never said that you wanted to be exclusive, Steph.”
“Then why did you bother telling me that she was your cousin?”
Jack didn’t answer.
A look of disappointment crossed Stephanie’s countenance and she spoke more quietly. “You lied to me, Jack.”
Again, Jack didn’t answer. Stephanie wrenched herself out of his grasp and shook her head in disbelief. “J-Joe told me about this, and I-I didn’t believe him.”
“Told you what?” Jack demanded.
“That your cousin was giving you an under-the-table hand job! God! That is so disgusting!” Stephanie groaned in frustration. “I can’t believe that I screwed a friend over for you!”
Joe had the gall to look insulted, but he held his tongue for the most part.
“She’s returning to New York tonight,” he managed after a moment’s silence. “Maybe if –
“No,” Stephanie interrupted. “No maybes. No ifs. You…you are on your own, Jack Whittaker.” Stephanie threw her hands up in disgust before walking to the front door of the house. She exited without closing the door behind her. She didn’t care. She had totally been played by a frog in prince’s clothing. As she shuffled back to her car, she noticed that Jack didn’t come running after her. Just as well, she guessed. She pulled the driver’s side door of her white Mercedes convertible open and plopped herself into the seat.
“What took you so long?” Jacy asked with a scowl.
Stephanie didn’t answer. Instead, she automatically started up her engine and pulled out of Jack’s driveway.
“Earth to Stephanie. Hello?” Jacy ventured again. Again, no answer.
Stephanie drove determinedly for several miles along the long stretch of road that bordered the coast. They were headed back toward North Mission, but about halfway toward their destination, Stephanie pulled off to the side of the road and stopped the car. She put it in park and turned off her engine.
That’s when Jacy noticed Stephanie’s teary eyes. “Steph? What’s wr –
Stephanie leaned her head on Jacy’s shoulder and cried her heart out.
