Chapter 8

“Oh good, you’re already here.” Nico said as he walked into the apartment without knocking wearing the same spotless white suit that Charle had seen him in at the restaurant. He also still had his hair slicked back, perfectly. Does this guy use a whole bottle of gel or something? She thought to herself in a disgusted manner as she looked up to see him regarding her in a cool manner that said ‘get the hell out of here.’

“What?! Did I just leave the door wide open?!” D said making a wide gesture with his arms and the doctor and Nico both nodded.

“Actually Damian, You did. Now let me look at that wound.” The doctor said as he approached him. D immediately backed into the couch cushions trying to get away from them, which wasn’t working too well for him. His eyes darted back and forth between the doctor, Nico and in the general direction of the door.

“You always do. Now are you going to make this easy or do I have to pin you again?” Nico said striding across the living room towards the two on the couch. A completely terrified look crossed his face as Nico approached him and pinned him from behind the couch. Charle shrank away from Nico, moving toward the opposite end of the couch to get away from the man. D fought the doctor and Nico the whole time that they had him held down, They managed to examine him, but didn’t get away without a few bite marks and kicks to the face. When they were finished and Nico let him go D curled up and scowled at the two of them, muttering empty threats in both of their directions.

“Well he’ll be just fine.” The doctor turned to Charle and looked at her curiously. “Were you the one who bandaged and cleaned him up?” Charle nodded a little hesitantly and the doctor smiled at her. “You did a wonderful job.”

“Thank you, I’ve always been good at first aid.” Charle said softly and watched quietly as the two men said goodbye to a sullen D on the couch and left, closing the door completely behind them. Charle turned to D with a curious expression on her face and was about to ask what that was about when D leapt to his feet, the sullen look gone from his face and replaced by his cheerful happy go lucky one.

“I’ll make popcorn!” He said cheerfully, seemingly over what happened already, Charle got up to help him and he gently pushed her back down. “Stay here, it’s only popcorn.” It was on the tip of her tongue to ask where he was going to make it when he didn’t have a microwave to speak of but she shut her mouth and waited. A few moments later he came back with a bowl of popcorn and turned the movie on, when the main menu came up Charle let out a squeak and turned to D.

“Texas Chainsaw Massacre?” She said looking over at D who grinned at her completely terrified expression on her face .

“Do I know how to pick movies or what?” D said proudly. Charle looked back at the screen as the movie started. She moved back toward him almost immediately.

“More like Or What…” She muttered under her breath and heard D chuckle, about halfway through the movie and lots of jumping and squeaks from Charle D got up to use the bathroom. She told him that he had bad timing; she could tell that another scary part was coming up and of course he just had to leave. The movie was so loud and the apartment was so dark that Charle didn’t even hear D sneak behind the couch. Of course he didn’t even go near the bathroom. Just when the suspense had Charle riveted to her spot, and her eyes to the screen in front of her, D jumped over the couch at her from behind it and screamed. Charle let out a shriek and threw the pillow that she had been clutching to her chest at him, and fell off the couch; D fell over laughing as Charle tried to calm herself down.

“You… twit!!” Charle said picking up the pillow and repeatedly hitting him. D fended the pillow off easily and climbed back up on the couch, still laughing heartily.

“I’m sorry, I just couldn’t resist!” D said with the pillow now in his possession, and he wasn’t planning on letting it go.

“Just for that I’m not going to cuddle you the next time something scary-“ She looked up at the screen and did the very thing she had told him she wouldn’t do, completely terrified. But instead of going back to her spot she stayed in his arms, but still buried her head in his shoulder every time something scary happened.

When the movie ended Charle removed herself from D’s embrace, stood up and stretched still slightly stiff from sitting in one position for so long, D got up and stretched as well. He let out a loud yawn and scratched the back of his head.
“Well, I have to go to work tomorrow.” D threw his wallet at Charle who caught it deftly. “Call yourself a cab.” He left the room and headed towards his bedroom. Charle looked around for a moment for the phone then realized that D’s cell was the only phone that he had. She sighed angrily and opened the door to the bedroom, coming in without knocking. D was in the middle of zipping up a change of pants and he looked up at her and grinned. “I knew this date would end in the bedroom, and something told me that I’d be half undressed!” he said pulling on a shirt and Charle rolled her eyes.

“You completely planned this… and how am I supposed to call a cab when you didn’t give me your cell?” She asked putting a hand on her hip and D took his wallet back from her with a chuckle at her curious look.

“Your not.” He pulled on his leather jacket and smiled at her. “I’m going to take you home.” He walked past her and she followed him out with a soft chuckle. They got on the motorcycle and after sometime they pulled up in front of her house. She got off the motorcycle and passed him the spare helmet. D got off as well, taking off his helmet and walking her to the front porch. When they reached the porch he pulled out a card and handed it to her. “Here, this is my work number. Call me here in the day, I don’t answer my cell because I’m under a car all day.” He said and she gave him a curious look, but put the card in her purse. “Look, I’m sorry about today, I’m sure that the second date will be a lot more fun.” He said in a bubbly tone and she shook her head.

“I had fun.” She looked up at him and smiled. “But I’m hoping that the next date won’t include a doctor and that Nico guy…” She said and he laughed at her. She was about to say good-bye when D leaned forward and kissed her. At the same moment Charle heard the door open, praying that it wasn’t her parents she pulled back from D and turned to see her brother grinning at them.

“Well, well, look who’s making out on the porch.” Benji said jokingly and grinned at the two of them. “Boy are you in big trouble! Mom and Dad threw a fit because you left while you were grounded!” Charle winced slightly and looked over at D, who grinned at her.

“Well, I guess I must be pretty awesome for you to have snuck out of the house! But I have to go now.” D said giving Charle a hug, he started down the steps then ran back up them, taking two at a time and gave Benji a kiss on the cheek and darted off across the lawn shouting. “Woohoo!! I got a kiss!!” Charle shook her head with a laugh and pushed past Benji who looked rather surprised.
