I Feel Just Fine

Vampire

Jodi swung her legs over the edge of the bed and hopped off of it. Almost if she was in a trance, she walked to the full length mirror located behind the door. She moved until her forehead was touching the cool glass. She sighed in relief, seeing herself in the reflective surface. Everyone knew that vampires had no reflections.

But vampire could not walk in the sun. Or be in holy places. And yet she sees woman casually walking in daylight and she very well remembers when Alex stopped her marriage to the con man.

She heard footsteps behind her and then saw Sage’s confused expression in the mirror.

No way. She could hear her breathes become more rapid. She began deep breathing until her breathing became normal. Then she realized something.

It was so quiet in the room. So quiet that she could hear her heart beat.
But that was where the problem lied. She could not here her own heart beat. She shakily put her fingers against her neck and started listening to her pulse.

There was nothing.

All the blood left her face.

There was only one other thing that would prove Sage’s statement true.

She opened her mouth.

Where her canines would be were a pair two-inch long fangs.

She had fangs

Fangs

And with that noted, Jodi promptly passed out.

My Guardian Devil
Chapter 8
[=========================]
I Feel Just Fine

Downstairs Jorge sat on the bottom of the stairs while Pepper sat on the second floor landing. “When do you think she’s going to wake up,” asked the older man.

“AAAAAAAHHHHHHH”

“That give you your answer,” asked Pepper as she got up and entered the room. When Jorge ran into the bedroom, he was still surprised that Jodi was still screaming at her reflection. The trio looked at each other and then at the brunette. Sage sighed again as he walked behind the hysterical woman and covers her mouth with his hand. She immediately stopped screaming and stared at the blond man in the mirror.

“Listen I’m going to let go of your mouth. No more screaming.” She nodded.

Sage removed his hand and Jodi took a deep breath before turning to the younger Martin, grabbed his shoulders and began violently shaking him. “What do you mean I’m a vampire!?”

His head rocked back and forth as if he was a rag doll but was able to say to the newly turned brunette, “You know, no pulse, drinking blood, the two inch fangs in your mouth…”

“Oh god, I have fangs!!” Jodi stops the shaking and points to her mouth. “How can this happen!!”

And then the world made sense to Jodi. “ALEX!!!” She ran out of her room and into Alex’s room only to find the room empty. She spun around and walked out of the room and into the hallway only two find Jorge, Sage and Pepper staring at her as if she’s gone crazy.

“Where is she?”

“On the roof.” Without another second the brunette was down the stairs and in the back of the house. She turns towards the house and shields her eyes with arm. There on the roof sat her Alex hunched over with a glass bottle in her hands.

“Alex! Get down here!” The blonde peered down at the smaller woman and complied with her demands. She started climbing down one of the water pipes when she lost her grip on the metal, fell and landed on her back. Scared Jodi ran over to the downed female.
“Jodi,” the doctor asks, tears in her eyes, “Are you-”

Before she knew, her head jerked to the side the strength of Jodi’s slap causing her body to spin in a circle twice. She turned back to Jodi who was pissed off to say the least.

“Okay,” started Alex, rubbing he cheek. “I deserved that…”

“What the hell did you do to me?”

“Well...remember back in France I told you if you decided to put your life in danger I would kill you?”

“Yes…”

“Well… you did and you died.”

“And you turned me?”

Alex nodded and watched Jodi sink to the ground. The brunette looked up at the standing woman, “So I’m dead?”

Another nod.

And then the waterworks began. Jodi let herself be guided back into the house, up the stairs, and into Alex’s room. She sat on the bed while the older woman pulled out a bottle and two glasses. She filled both to the brim and handed one to Jodi. She sniffed the pleasant liquid before looking at Alex who had already drank half the glass.
“What is it?”

“Just drink it,” and with out another moment of hesitation, Jodi took a slip of the liquid and let it slid down her throat. Whatever it was, it tasted good. Really good. Once she was finish she handed the woman the empty glass.

“So,” she said folding her legs, “What was it?”

“Blood.” Jodi’s face was in shock before trying to ram her finger down her throat. Alex sighed and grabbed the brunette’s finger before her gag reflex kicked in, “You’re going to have to get used to it if you want to survive.”

“I can’t drink blood! It’s just…just… inhuman!” The blonde looked her with a vacant look, “What do you think you are?”

Realizing what her girlfriend had just said, Jodi let out another mournful wail and curled up into a ball on the bed. The older vampire looked down sadly at the smaller woman. She gently scooped the woman into her arms and calmed her down, rubbing circles on her back. “It’ll be okay. Shhh, I’ll help you through this.”

Alex heard sniffles come from the no longer sobbing woman. “Really,” asked a small voice. A small chuckle came from the doctor as she rubbed Jodi’s back. “What kind of lover would I be if I didn’t take of the person I loved?” The brunette laughed a little.

“Promise?”

“Cross my heart, hope to die.”

“You have no heart and you’re already dead.”

Alex opened her mouth to speak before shutting it. She shot Jodi an annoyed look before pushing the woman off her lap. The brunette yelped as she hit the mattress.

Alex positioned herself on the bed so her head was resting on Jodi’s stomach. Jodi looked into the playful face.

“You suck, you know that?”

“So I’ve been told,” the blonde rolled over and grabbed one of the woman’s small hands. “But I am serious. I will help you through this. I promise.”

A sincere smile came across her face. “Thanks.”

“No problem.” Unknown to the two the door squeaked open. Crush walked inside and sat beside the bed, thumping his tail against the floor, demanding to be noticed.

“So know that you know I’ve been lying to you about myself, which I am truly sorry I did what would you like to know about me? You can ask me any question.”

“How old are you?”

“Caesar was born 100 BC and I was born 30 years before so,” she begins to count on her fingers and then says, “I’m 2130.” Crush decided to make his presence known by jumping onto the bed and barking at the women.

“Well you don’t look a day over a thousand.”

“Thanks.” Alex scratched the yappy dog behind his ears to stop his barking.

“Why can you walk in the sunlight?”

“Ah, the not being able to walk in sunlight. A little myth and fact presented by Hollywood. Well, me and my family can walk in the daylight because we weren’t around when God’s son started to perform miracles and heal people. My father had a premonition that something bad was going to happen once the year became 0 so he rounded up the Martin clan, hauled us to France, and put us in a deep cave for a long nap while Crush, here,” she patted the husky’s head, “watched over the entrance.”

Jodi looked at the dog and then back at Alex. “Does that mean he’s a…”

“Vampire,” Alex guessed before shaking her head. “Nah, he just has an immortality spell on him. My mother got him as a gag wedding present from her brother.”

“After we all woke up and found out that our status had changed from gods to the Devil’s children we separated. Me and my ‘rents went to England and stayed there for a while right until Sage was born which was about 1016. Then we moved to China and I stayed there until the 1600’s. Then I left for the States.”

“Did you participate in the Revolution?”

“Ah yes. I was a spy and saboteur. You knew who told the Americans about Arnold? Thank you very much” She took a small bow making Jodi giggle.

“I took another small nap around 1885. Didn’t wake till 1915 and then moved to war-torn Europe where I turned my first person out of sympathy. His name was Leon. We moved around Western Europe until the end of the Second World War. Then we moved back to the states. That’s when I met Pamela.” The blonde slowly got up from the bed and walked to the closet on the other side of the room. Inside she crouched down on her knees and threw misplaced loafers, sneakers, dress shoes, and to Jodi’s amazement, heels over her shoulder.

“The first girl you loved.”

“Yeah, I decided to go to medical school, disguised as a male, since I had all this free time. We were friends in Bio 101 and each day we became closer. Then one day she sat me down and told me she was a lesbian and understood if I was disgusted with her. I just grabbed her shoulders and kissed her. Needless to say she was surprised that Alexander Martin had boobs.”

Alex got up from her knees, once she found what she was looking for, and came back to the bed with a large photo album. She sat next to Jodi and opened the book by passing photo’s that looked like they should be in museums. She stopped flipping and pointed to a large old picture that covered a whole page. There sat Alex, eyes closed, face towards the sky and a woman, probably in her early 20’s in a dark colored Halter dress with dark colored hair.

“How did she find out that you were a vampire?”

“Well… the same way you found out but through sex.” Alex scratched her head and looked sheepishly at the ‘Oh really?’ look Jodi was giving her. “It kinda got heated and I ended up biting her. The next morning she asked me a lot of questions. Then she wanted to meet my parents and surprisingly they said okay.”

“Why surprisingly?” The blonde closed the book and placed it to the side.

“You know how today some parents want their children to marry inside their race?” Jodi nodded.

“Same concept.”

Jodi nodded again and let the newfound facts sink in. ‘Okay, I am now apart of the undead, I think blood is wonderful and I’m in love with a woman who’s about a little over a millennium old. Yeah… time to check into Bellevue.’

“But enough about Bellevue,” the comment causing the smaller woman to do a double take, “It is time for your first lesson, Jodi Ragsac!”

“Lesson in what?”

“Why being a vampire, of course! I’m going to teach you to hunt.”

A frown appeared on the young vampire’s face, “Do I have to learn?”

“Yes, now go to Pepper and tell her we’re going to Heat and you need to get dressed. Meet me downstairs in an hour.” And with that Alex pushed the brunette out of the room and into Pepper. “What’s ‘Heat’,” Jodi asked Pepper. The red head just grinned and guided Jodi into the bathroom.

An hour later Jodi walked down the stairs wearing a red shirt and short denim skirt.

“You look extremely rape-able,” said a voice from the bottom of the stairs. Contrary to the smutty wear she was wearing, Alex wore a baggy red polo and surprisingly a black skirt that ended a little above her knees with some red tennis shoes.

“So that’s what I’m aiming for,” she asked, the fear was apparent in both her voice and her face, “To get raped?”

“Don’t worry,” the blonde responded kissing her forehead and ushering her into the cold night air. “I’ll be with you if anything happens.” They started walking towards the Baton Rouge area in silence.

“So,” Jodi wondered out loud as they turned onto another street, “Where are we going?”

“To a bar for your first victim,” was the response

“But what am I supposed to do,” asked the newly turned vampire. The two stopped in front of a large building. In bright gold neon letters spelt HEAT.

“Go have fun. Once you know what you want just let it flow. It’ll come natural. It always does,” Alex explained before releasing Jodi and entering the establishment. Jodi looked at the neon letters and then at the door before taking a deep breathe and following the older vampire inside.

Jodi ignored the catcalls and whistles she received and made her way towards the counter. “Scotch in the rocks,” she ordered before staring at the crowd. Most of the males in the bar were probably older than her and a part of her mind wasn’t looking for an old timer for fun. She blinked and turned back towards the counter just as her drink was placed in front of her. ‘Wait did I just think that?’ Then Alex’s words entered her head.

‘Once you know what you want just let it flow. It’ll come natural. It always does.’

‘If you say so, teacher,’ she said in her head, taking a sip of her drink. What she didn’t know was that Fate decided to let Jodi have her fun. Before she knew it, the person on her right started speaking to her.

“Hey there. You alone tonight?” She turned her gaze to the man sitting on her right. The tanned man gave her a friendly smile. To Jodi he looked to be in his late 20s. To the part of Jodi’s brain that was controlling her very actions he looked perfect.

“Yeah,” she says with a yawn closing her eyes for a second. Unknown to the man she saw him drop something in her drink, “but I was about to head home.”

“Well a fine thing like you shouldn’t be walking home at this time of night.”

“I can handle myself...?”

“Will,” he says shaking her hand, “Just incase how about I walk you home or get you a cab?”

She sips the tainted alcohol and then signals the bartender that she’s done. “If you insist.” When they quickly leave the bar, Jodi could sense that the man’s nervousness and could probably guess why. The drug he gave her really didn’t have any effect on a dead person but if she wanted to convince the man that nothing suspicious was going on she would need to act like it did.

She began to sway back and forth as they continued through a small alley. Much to the man’s happiness the drugged woman finally slumped against one of the brick walls, her face flushed, her breathing getting heavy and eyes glazed over. He violently shoved her against the wall, holding her wrists over head and leered down at his “stupefied” victim before leaning over and planted rough kiss on the brunette’s lips while pressing his body into hers. He broke off kiss and skillfully began to undo his pants until someone stopped him by cutting him on the shoulder. He gasped releasing his hold on Jodi to grab his bleeding wound and she fell to the ground. Will looked to his left and was surprised to see a blonde woman leaning against the wall only inches from where he was.

“Hello,” Alex said in a friendly greeting. The man looked at her as if she had three eyes and at the same time did not realize that his “captive” had risen from the ground, eyes burning red and hungrily staring at the wound near his neck. Before he could say or do anything Jodi struck like a python catching a mouse. The newly turned vampire pushed the man against the opposite wall and latched her fangs into his neck. She could hear the man’s moans and feeling him try to get free as his life substance flowed into her mouth and down her throat. His blood was addicted though tasted a little different than the one Alex gave her earlier in the day. She kept the man pressed against the brick wall until there was nothing left and then let his dead body slump down.

That’s when rational Jodi took control. Her eyes widened as she stared down at the dead body. “What have I done,” she wailed. Alex, hearing the distress in her voice, crouched down hugged her distressed lover. “Shh, you had to do what.” Alex’s soothing voice calmed her down a bit. “Plus,” she continued, “He drugged and tried to rape you. Think of what you did as a favor to society. You help take a rapist off the streets for good.”

“Well,” she said relaxing into the blonde’s frame, “You are right about that.”

“So how about we go home,” asked the older vampire. Jodi nodded and started walking towards the street when Alex stopped her. “Who said about walking? Jared.” Jodi was surprised to see a bald man drive up to her in a black Nissan and stop in front of the two women.

“Yes, Master Alex,” he asked in a nasally voice. “Drive us home please and when we exit destroy the vehicle.”

“Yes, Madame,” Jared responded. The couple got into the car as it roared to life and began heading towards the house. Moments later the large vehicle stopped in front of their home. Once the ladies got out off the large car Jared bid them a good night before driving off.

“Tell me Alex,” the brunette asked as they entered the house, “Was he there with you all this time?” Alex nodded just as Crush came down the stairs to greet them with slobbery dog kisses. “Call it a privilege being the head of a vampire clan.” She walked into the kitchen and got herself some blood. “So what am I,” Jodi’s small hands wrapped around her stomach. Alex smiled and put down the glass before facing the brunette. “You are the greatest personal perk of them all.” Jodi laughed and pulled the blonde into the living room before pushing her onto one of the recliners and straddling her legs.

“Oh, so I’m just a perk, huh? Well,” Jodi yanks the red polo off of Alex and throws it to the floor, “I think I should do something to keep my title as greatest personal.” But just as the brunette’s hand made its way to the silky bra, hands stopped her.

“Not tonight.” Alex said with regret as she pushed Jodi off her legs and walked towards her room upstairs. The brunette pouted and followed her lover up the stairs.

“But why,” she whined grabbing Alex’s arm just as the blonde was about go in her room.

“Cause you have to get up for work in an hour.” She pointed to her watch. “Aw, wait,” she looked closer at the time telling piece, “An hour?”

“Time flies when you’re dead but I’ll make it up to you,” Alex put her hand over where her heart should be. “Promise.”

“Can I sleep with you then,” Jodi said in a small voice. The older woman smiled and pulled Jodi into her room and into her bed. “You don’t need to ask me twice.” Jodi felt protective arms circle her body. So what if she was legally dead and in order to survive she had to drink the blood of other living beings. Strangely the whole situation made her peaceful. At least she didn’t ever have to worry about aging or disease. Just the random vampire slayer and since Alex took care of that small problem she had nothing to worry about.

In Jodi now unmoral world everything was okay.
