Chapter 37- Denial
Alright, time for another chapter. My mind is kinda hazy right now... which may explain why this one may feel short. It certainly does to me anyway. Thanks for reviews Falcon!
Chapter 37
Midas, the group\'s newest companion, lead the way north. He kept a firm grip on his blade, but it was for nothing really, as no beast seemed to want to go near them. It was an entire elemental assembly. John who could preform all sorts of spells, but seemed to specialize in fire, Jessica who handled water, Aivon who controled earth, and Midas who mastered wind.
\"You know, our group is near invincible!\" John said loudly.
\"Don\'t get so high and mighty John. Those who raise themselves up too high, are only destinied to go one place else. Straight down.\" Midas said.
\"You take the fun out of everything, you know that?\" John said airly.
\"He has a point John.\" Aivon said. \"Now that we know what we are up against, it\'s important that we don\'t forget, we aren\'t immortal. There are limits to our powers.\"
\"But we can\'t let that stop us now!\" Jessica said, trying to cheer up everyone. \"We have what it takes to stop Beras and Hieas after all.\"
\"I... guess.\" Midas did not tell everyone what he and the seer had talked about while they waited outside. He felt he could not bring about to tell John that the seer had predicted Jessica\'s death... But she could be wrong. It was possible, though it was likely to be a slim possiblity. Still, as heartless as he may have looked or acted in battle, he wouldn\'t give John what could turn out to be flase hope. He instead remained firm to the fact that John was someone who couldn\'t be \'predictable\'.
Two days passed in near silence, when they reached what appeared to be a town, surrounded by a large wall. Guards had blocked the only entrence, which was a gate.
\"A kingdom.\" Midas said simply.
\"Cool, a real kingdom! Let\'s get moving.\" John said excitedly.
They all went foward to meet the guard, who had spotted them coming from some distance off. \"Halt! State your name and business.\"
\"My name is John Aaron. We are travelers who-\"
\"Wait! Did you say your name was Aaron? Then perhaps you know of Dias Aaron?\"
John was surprised to find that these people knew about his dad\'s name. Perhaps he was closer then he realized. \"Yes! He was my father you see, and-\"
But that was all he could say, for the guards drew thier weapons upon them. \"Leave! At once! And don\'t think of returning!\"
\"Hold on! What\'s the big idea here!?\" Aivon said fericely.
\"Dias Aaron was exiled from here a long time ago. No one from his family is allowed to return. Now, begone!\"
John didn\'t want to have to argue, so they all left quietly, until the guards could no longer be seen.
\"Well John, I think we found out where and why your father started his traveling.\" Jessica said.
\"Yeah... but exiled? For what?\"
\"Probably for finding that key.\" Midas said. \"Remember? If the demons of the pact went after him, then it meant that the town had to suffer for it. It is in many cases as this that people often tend to blame one another for misfortunes. In this case, John\'s father was the one blamed.\"
\"But exile? That\'s a bit too harsh for someone, don\'t you think?\" Aivon asked.
\"It\'s doesn\'t matter. We have to get in there. If only we could explain somehow, who we were and why we traveled here...\" John thought.
\"We should find the king then. If we got his permission to stay, then we could.\" Jessica said hopefully.
\"So until then, we have to sneak in.\" Midas said. \"Easy really.\"
\"Maybe for you!\" Jessica said hotly. She didn\'t like having to to break into what looked like a heavily guarded town, and most likely, a heavily guarded castle. Still, there was no other way to go from this point.
\"Just great. Well, I guess we better wait till night.\"
They decided to make camp at that point and try to rest for a nighttime break in. John found it almost funny, for the last town that they had left they had to sneak away just to get out while this one was a complete opposite. But there were more things to worry about. He had to clear his father\'s name, somehow. His family name would forver mean nothing to these people, when they so judged him as they did his father.
The sun was slowly moving through the sky as John felt Jessica curl up to him. He wrapped his rm around her. He couldn\'t imagine why, but he felt as though it would be the last time they could be together like this. They slowly slept as the day wore on as dusk wrapped itself around thier sleeping bodies. The night would bring more adventure, more danger, and hopefully, the end of thier journey.
