First Date
Matt woke in a sweat once again. He sprang out of bed and turned to stare at it, shocked.
“What the hell was that all about?” Matt couldn’t believe it. For an entire year his dreams had haunted him….of the race…the competition between him and his brother…the fire…
“Jesus, man, you really need to get laid,” he told himself, still not believing what he had dreamt. Actually, that was part of the problem, his dream was so real, the girl was real, he had seen that fire hair and green eyes before…the girl from the coffee shop!
He grinned to himself; the girl with no name.
As he sank back onto his bed he realized he had seen this girl before, he just didn’t know from where. Highschool? A race? Damn, it was really bugging him.
He smiled slowely as he remembered his dreams. It had been some time since he had a dream like that. His mystery girl had been wearing an emerald green nightie and was beckoning him to his own bed. She had laid there, simply inviting him to her.
He remembered the way his body reacted to her simple touch.
‘Ok, that’s it. I need a cold shower.’ Matt headed to his bathroom and after a really long freezing cold shower that left him freezing down to his bones, he still couldn’t take him mind off his girl.
‘Now where did that come from?’ he thought to himself, ‘You’re probably never going to see her again anyway so you better drop this fantasy.’
He quickly got dressed and headed for work.
“Liz, hurry up or you’re going to be late!” Lucy yelled from the living room.
Rob turned to smirk at her, “Are you serious, when we go out you make me wait hours. I know never to come pick you up on time cause I’ll just be sitting on your couch for a few.”
“Oh, shut up Rob” Lucy said, hitting him with a pillow, “Liz isn’t fussing over her hair or makeup, she’s freaking over her first really big date.”
“What??” Rob said, not believing a word she was saying, “She’s like 26!”
“Rob, baby, as much as I love you, I’ll have to smack you over the head again if you so much as bring any of this up in front of Liz. Got it?” Lucy gave him a warning glare.
“But, she’s amazing! I mean, she’s so smart and sweet, shy and innocent ….ohhhh” Rob said, thinking over everything he knew about Liz.
“Excuse me?”Lucy said, looking a little ticked off at her boyfriend, “have you been checking out my best friend?”
“Baby you know I love you,” Robert teased, “but I’m not blind.”
“Ha! That’s it” Lucy grabbed the pillow she had previously been hit Robert with and began smacking him over and over. Pretty soon a full fledged pillow fight began.
“Boys and girls, will I have to put both of you in a corner?” Liz said nervously, as she exited her room.
“As long as it’s a dark corner we both can share” Rob murmered, as he bend to suck on Lucy’s neck.
“Uhh, guys, I’m leaving in like 2 minutes. Can you at least wait until then?”
“Sure, Liz…oh wow” Robert had stopped staring at his girlfriend who was running her tongue suggestively along her lips to look at Liz and was shocked by what he saw.
Liz was dressed simply in a black jean short pleated skirt. She had on a shimmering green top which was simple yet matched her eyes almost perfectly. She wore only a hint of lip-gloss but her eyes were made up to look wider. Each lid was covered in a curved speck of shimmer, highlighting her distinct feature. She had on high black boots that normally she would never buy since the heel was way too impractical, but even she had to agree with Lucy that they made her legs look awesome. Her hair hung loosely over her shoulders and down her back in tamed wildness.
“Someone sure does clean up nice!” Lucy smiled at her friend and admired the new outfit they had picked out together while shopping that day.
“I’d say” Rob said, who then got smacked on the head again, this time by both girls.
“Alright, alright, geez- Liz’ll have to give me a CT scan if you people keep this up.” Rob grumbled as he held his hands up in surrender.
Lucy gave him a quick kiss before she got up to grab a matching purse from her room to lend to Liz.
“So Liz,” Rob started with a mischievous smile on his face, “I think I’ll have to give this guy the third degree, you know. He is now taking out my girlfriend’s best friend. What kind of boyfriend would I be if I didn’t cross examine the guy for her.” He smiled as he swung his arm around Liz’s shoulder.
Lucy, shocked at what Rob might say or do simply yelled out, “Lucy!”
“Rob! If you want any tonight, you better stop talking now!” Rob’s face dropped when he realized he had been had, and Liz laughed out loud.
“You guys are absolutely no fun” Robert mumbled to himself as he headed to the fridge to get something to eat.
At the knock at her door, Liz tensed up, realizing she was actually going out with Mark.
“Omg, omg, omg” Liz felt like she was going to have a heart attack.
“Hey, relax. Liz, it’s okay” Rob said, trying to calm her down.
“Here it is! I knew I brought it with me” Lucy came out carrying the black purse in her hands.
“Um, Lucy, Liz is having a panic attack; I’ll get the door…” Robert quickly got himself out of the sticky situation and made a bee-line for the door.
Lucy dragged Liz back in to her bedroom and shut the door quickly while Robert let Mark in and casually made small talk.
“Okay, calm down, its okay, just breath” Lucy said calming, trying to get her friend under control.
“I..I can’t…I can’t do this…I don’t this” Liz said, breathing hard, trying to get herself under control.
“Alright, now you’re going to listen to me. You have to relax. Let me quote your own words. ‘It’s only a date’. It is only a date Liz. Plus, you’ve hung out with this guy tons of times before, really what’s so different this time?”
“But Lucy…” Liz started.
“No buts Liz. You’re going on this date. It’s not like you’re marrying the guy, okay. So relax. Just think of it as two friends just hanging out having a great time. Forget that it’s even a date. Liz, the worse that can happen is it doesn’t work out and you guys can still be friends. Listen to me, take it from a professional, the key here is to relax and just be yourself, it’ll all come naturally. Okay?” Lucy looked at her friend who had quickly become a nervous wreck.
“I can do this..I can do this” Liz said, more to herself.
“Yes you can,” Lucy smiled at her, “but just in case, take your cell phone and if anything goes wrong call me, okay?”
Liz smiled at her and hugged her friend.
As she exited her room with Lucy in tow, she took one last deep breath and looked up at Mark.
He smiled at her, surprised but what he saw. That gave Liz all the courage she needed to do this.
“Hey” Mark said, surprised that little word didn’t come out in a stutter. Liz looked absolutely beautiful. He had no words to describe her at the moment.
“Hi” Liz smiled back, “ready to go?”
“Sure” Mark turned to Robert, “It was nice meeting you.”
“Hey, you too man. Listen, you better get Liz back home by 10 PM, got it, or else I have a fist with your name on it.” Robert said with a serious face.
“Ummm” Mark looked from Robert to Liz unsure of what to say. Liz grabbed Mark’s arm and pulled him out the door yelling, “We’re leaving now!” while Lucy laughed at the whole situation.
“He was just kidding, Mark. Rob is a bit of joker” Liz smiled.
“Uh, okay…sure” Mark said, but made sure to check his watch anyway. That Rob guy was pretty big……
“Ah, look at our little Liz go, do you think she’ll be okay?” Rob said, as they both looked out the window watching Liz and Mark head down the street.
“Quit it Rob, they’re gone now. You can stop being the over protective parent.” She nudged Robert with her shoulder, moving away from the window.
“Yeah well, you’re little revelation on Liz’s personal life had me realizing maybe she does need a little protection. Guy’s can be jerks you know. Liz can get hurt. How well does she actually know this guy…” he was cut off by a kiss from Lucy.
“You’re cute when you’re worried you know that?” Lucy said, smiling up at her boyfriend.
“Well, you’re cute all the time, you know that?” Robert said, all thoughts of Liz forgotten.
“Hmm…let’s see if you still think I’m cute in a few minutes” Lucy said, turning while removing her clothes to walk to their bedroom, leaving a trail of clothes on the floor.
