That was all a little too weird. Kiera’s head was spinning. How could he know? How could…? She could feel her stomach knotting and the shiver between her shoulders came back.
“Oi! Mind coming back to Earth long enough to tell the rest of us why we had to leave so early?” Lisa’s voice snapped her back to reality.
“Umm….”Kiera paused, struggling to find her voice. “Would it be enough to say that the mission was a success, but it got fucked up anyway?” She looked at Lisa from the corner of her eye. “…And I’ll tell you the details when we get back home…?”
Lisa sighed, and grinned. “Fine. But I’m not taking over the dishes. You’re not going to call him; I can see it on your face.”
“Oh, whatever. I got his number, and that was the only requirement. Besides, doing the dishes’ll be good training for a ‘trophy-housewife’ like you so want to be.” Both girls laughed and continued bickering all the way back to their apartment.
As soon as the door was shut and locked, Lisa turned on Kiera. “Ok. We’re home. What was so wrong with him that we had to leave the concert?”
“You’re gonna think I’m crazy.”
“I already do, now tell.”
Kiera flopped down onto the couch. “That guy. He…knew things, said things that he shouldn’t know. He talked his way past all of my defenses faster than anyone ever has.”
“So what did he know? Stalker things? Like your class schedule, or what time you take a shower at?”
“He knew about the bet that we made, for one thing. I never even told him about that. Geez...I told him a lot about me. I never do that. He was just so…”she trailed off. Charming...
“HEY! No, you’re not zoning off again. So he knew about the bet. He might’ve had a buddy near us that overheard us. Or, it could just be an educated guess. Think about it. Two girls at a concert, dressed to the nines, and talking about one guy that stands out in the crowd. Besides, it also sounds like he knows what he’s doing when it comes to girls, if he got to you this much. Heh. Maybe you should give him a call. If, that is, he really gave you his number.”
“Yes, he did give it to me, see?” Kiera brought out the napkin with his number, only to have Lisa snatch it, and run away. “Hey! Give that back!” Kiera dashed up to grab the napkin back, just as Lisa spun around, cell phone in hand. She held it up to Kiera’s face so she could see the word ‘Dialing’ flashing on the screen. Lisa grinned, and Kiera glared at her.
“Hello?” a faint voice came from the phone. “Who is this?”
Kiera snatched the phone and stuck her tongue out at her friend. “Hi. It’s Kiera. Yeah, Lisa, my friend talked me into it.” She glared again. How about lunch tomorrow? Ok. I’ll meet you at the corner of Second and Main then. Right. See you then. Bye!” She flipped the phone closed again. “Gods, I hate you sometimes…”
“Yeah, maybe, but you got a date out of it at least. Let’s see, it’s…holy shit, it’s after two! You should get to bed, K. You could...uh...use the beauty rest,” she finished with a wink.
“Oh, shut up. Come on, watch InuYasha with me, then we can go to bed. I’m still too wired right now.”
“Ok, but start with the first episode, I’ve never actually seen it. I’ll be back by the time it starts,” she said, walking off to her room.
Some time later, between episodes, Kiera stood and walked into the kitchen. “You want anything to—”
BAM BAMBAMBAMBAM!!!
Cut off by the pounding at the door, Kiera groaned, and opened it as far as the chain lock would allow. “What? The TV isn’t that—”
“Shut up, you stupid bitch! This is all your fault! You took him away! You took away my chance to get home! I should…!” the girl outside screamed and tried to reach through the door to Kiera, grabbing at her.
“What the hell is wrong with you? I don’t even know you! Oh, wait. You’re that little snot from the Abyss, aren’t you? And you’re talking about Jack, but what the fuck do you mean by your chance to get home?” Kiera puzzled more to herself, than the girl, though at the mention of his name, the girl started laughing.
“Yeah. That’s right. Jack. Haha! That’s the one. Jack!” she looked at Kiera again, staring briefly, and then started screaming and reaching again.
“Um, Lis? You’ve called the cops already, right?
“Yeah…yes, I called…they’re on their way…” Lisa said, an extremely confused look on her face.
Kiera turned back to the girl at the door. “You hear that? The cops are on their way to take care of you. If you ask nicely, maybe they can take you home, too,” She told the girl in a slow voice, acting as though she was speaking to a child, or rather, a crazy person. The girl, however, was still screaming. The only thing that Kiera could make out aside from the wordless shrieks was something that sounded like ‘Why won’t you burn??’
Soon after, the police showed up, and escorted, read dragged, the girl away. Two of them stayed behind to take a statement from Lisa and Kiera. Kiera told them about having seen the girl and a friend at the Abyss, though they hadn’t started any trouble there. She told them about the strange things that the girl had been screaming at her through the door. The police wrote everything down, and asked if she knew how to get a hold of Jack.
“No, I’m sorry. I’m meeting him tomorrow for lunch, though. I’ll tell him to call.”
That’s fine, they told her. Sorry for the trouble, usually a quiet neighborhood, make a report, blah, blah, blah.
Kiera flopped down on the couch again and sighed for what seemed like the millionth time in the past several hours.
“Tell you what, if it’ll help your paranoia, I can drop you off at your date tomorrow, meet him, and come pick you up afterwards. ‘Cause then he’ll know that I know where you are, and what he looks like. Besides, just cause his ex is a psycho, doesn’t mean that he is. Think about it. That’s probably a key factor in why she’s his ex. In the mean time, I don’t think that I can sleep tonight, so let’s just keep watching InuYasha.”
Kiera grunted in agreement, and started the next episode. Then, “Thanks, Lis. For looking out for me.”
Lisa grunted back. Then, “You’re still going on the date though. But if he’s super bad, go to the bathroom and text me, and I’ll come get you.”
You’re right. I am going on that date. So you have to do the dishes for a loooooong time. Hehe.”
