Chapter 9
Chapter 9~
Guthrie Hawking sat in a chair in the middle of a large room. The room was made completely out of stone. No tapestry hung on the walls, and no rug lay on the floor. A wooden door was on the eastern wall, and a large fireplace in the western. The chair that he was sitting on was the only piece of furniture in the room.
Flames seemed to shine in eye eyes as he stared at the fireplace, but there was no fire in the grate. Three candle sconces lined each wall, casting eerie shadows on the walls. Guthrie continued to stare at the grate, the fire in his eyes becoming more intense and more wild with each passing second. It had been two weeks since he had sent three of his servants to find Nydia. How hard could it be to find a girl when she is on foot and you are on horseback?
Something must have gone wrong. The logs in the fireplace suddenly burst into flames as Guthrie stared at it. He hated when things didn’t go his way. As his anger grew the flames leapt higher and higher in the grate, causing the room to heat up quickly. The heat quickly reached an unbearable temperature but Guthrie did not even begin to sweat.
He reveled in the burning heat. It was always too cold, the heat made him feel alive. That little bitch Nydia had an inner fire as well, though not nearly as strong as his. He had always been able to sense her power. She had teased and tortured him with that power. Holding it just out of his reach. She had tempted him, brought him to the breaking point.
She had seduced him and then pushed him away, it was her fault he was hovering at the edge of madness. Or, perhaps he had already tumbled into the darkness of the truly insane. How was he to know? Was he just supposed to assume he was still partially sane? That little bitch had caused all of this. Why did he have to suffer for what she had done?
The fire was sucking up all of the oxygen in the large room and Guthrie was forced to put it out. He never moved but the fire quickly burned out, leaving Guthrie cold, even though the room was suffocating. He paced around the room, trying to raise his body heat before he called for his sister. “IREN!” he bellowed, as he continued to pace.
The door opened and a young woman was hit by a wave of heat that caused her to stumble backwards. She was instantly grateful for the thin dress she wore, and for the fact that she had the foresight to tie her long black hair into a braid. She kept her eyes fixed on the floor, knowing never to look her brother in the eye when he was in one of his violent moods. “Is there something you need brother?” she asked in a soft voice.
“It distresses me that my men have not come back yet. Call Nydia’s mother here...” he paused for a moment before continuing, “Leave her brothers and their families be for a moment, but I want to see that little boy she likes so much. What is his name?”
“Basil, sir.” Iren answered softly. She cringed inwardly at the thought of harm coming to the boy. He had always been so cheerful and happy whenever she had seen him. She looked forward to seeing him every time she was allowed to go outside.
“Yes, that’s the one. And I want to see the old woman too. Bring those three to me quickly and I will allow you to eat today.”
“You are too generous brother, I thank you.” Iren said, and she half-meant it. She had not eaten in two days because her brother had not given her permission to, and she did not dare to disobey his orders. She curtsied quickly and then left the room, closing the door behind her. She dreaded the thought of harm coming to the little boy or the old woman, but she hurried to do what was asked of her. For she dared not upset him, the results could be disastrous.
Guthrie sat in the single chair in the room and laughed darkly to himself. He had plans for those three, but he knew that dealing with Nydia’s mother would be the most enjoyable. She would beg for death before he was finished with her. And, when Nydia came back, for he had no doubt that she would, she would thank him for killing her wretch of a mother.
He shivered. Just thinking about Nydia made him hard and needy. He had time before Iren returned with his... visitors, and the door was closed. His hands drifted to his lap and images of Nydia’s mother, bleeding and begging for death, filled his mind. Then he saw Nydia, joyful tears streaming down her cheeks as she gazed at her mother’s lifeless body. Similar images filled his head, all full of death and pain.
It was then that he realised that he truly was insane, and that he never could be sane again. But, as he reached his completion he found that he didn’t care. He welcomed the madness, he embraced it. He slid from his chair and fell to a heap on the floor. Harsh laughter filled the room as he wrapped his arms around himself. He rocked slowly back and forth, wild flames dancing in his dark eyes.
AN: Well... does this chapter really need an explination? I hope you guys like this chapter better than the last one. So, yeah... I added more confusing plot twists and a new character... enjoy.

Hello Betty- Okay, so Nydia and Saxen aren\'t in this chapter, so you don\'t know how things have been progressing over the two weeks they have been traveling with eachother. There will be more Nydia and Saxen goodness in thet cht chapter... I promise.
