I bowed my head, a smile coming slowly over my features. “It’s been a while since anyone called me that… How have you been D.r Parin?”

“I’ve been surviving rather well since that day… I don’t think I properly thanked you for that.” I looked up at her, the smile still on my face.

“Don’t mention it.”

“So not only Reena, but Dr. Parin too. Is it really just people who knew her before?” Kerri was at a loss

“It’s more than that Kerri.” Reena said pulling her to the kitchen, “Are you guys hungry?”

“Yes!! Can we have Mexican today Ree?” Anya cried bounding up from her seat and running after her. Jake watched me for a few minutes before her and Terry went upstairs, most likely to their rooms. Dr. Parin took a seat on one of the armchairs and motioned for me an Kerri to have a seat as well. Too my surprise and amusement I saw Kerri turn into a German shepherd puppy and curl up on the seat.

“Say nothing you don’t want them all to know.” she warned me as I sat down “Kerri may look innocent now, but she’s taking everything say and is going to transmit it all back to them.”

“Even things about you.” I saw Kerri’s ears perk up marginally.

“I have nothing to hide Riona.”

“That’s a pity.” I turned away from her and focused instead on the patterns on the carpet.

“How have you been coping with your powers all this time?” she asked after a while

“I haven’t used them.” I think the simplicity of my statement shocked her. “I jump, but that’s it.” Terra appeared out of nowhere and proceeded to make herself comfortable on my lap.

“And how has that been working out for you?” my hands were moving gently over Terra’s fur as I looked at her.

“Your wrinkles are showing.” she scoffed then pouted, which made crack a smile. “So what are you doing here?”

“Isn’t it obvious? It’s an anti organization group.” her legs were crossed and she had a wicked glint in her eyes that would scare me if I wasn’t so skeptical.

“It’s true you dislike the organization for what they did, but do you really think these punks,” I poked Kerri in the side and she growled at me “Could really fight them?” It was like watching a balloon deflate itself then start to re-inflate as her eyes focused more on me

“You could-”

“No. I’m not teaching anyone else the art of war.” besides, if I fight in any battle, it’ll be a massacre. Reena came out of the kitchen and plopped down next to me

“It’s almost time to masticate, where are Jake and Terri?” I could tell my face gained a blank then amused expression before I turned to Reena with mischief written all over my face. “God Kit. I said masticate not masturbate. Could your mind get any more perverted?

“Couldn’t you just say eat?” I inquired

“Now where’s the fun in that?”

Jake and Terri came downstairs, Terri still seemed as though she didn’t trust me, Kerri seemed content no matter what happened while Anya was positively thrilled.

“We don’t get a lot of new faces here, but I like making new friends.”

“Be careful who you talk to.” I warned again. Something about her character was just too cute not to ignore for a lengthy period of time.

Although they had more than enough rooms to spare, Reena insisted that I at least spend the first night in her room, seeing as they didn’t really make up a room for me yet.

“If you just wanted to talk, you could have just said so you know.” I said as she closed her door behind us. I turned to face her and received the hardest slap I’d ever been given. My hand went to my cheek slowly and automatically, feeling a foreign tingling sensation.

“Do you know how many nights I’ve cried?” her voice was barely above a whisper, but I could hear the pain in it. “Do you know how many nights I thought I was the only one how survived that hell? Kit… I didn’t want to believe it. I couldn’t, but I thought you were going to come back to me. That you would have at least cared that much to see that I was alive. To show me you were, because I think you knew the entire time-”

“I didn’t…”

“You…. Didn’t?” the floor’s patterns held my attention as I felt wave after wave of emotion start to tear through my body, but I fought it back. Emotions were not good. I couldn’t let them loose… not here.

“Then why? Why shut yourself away? Why not take the risk? Why did you run today?”

“I was scared.” the admittance seemed to release some of the tension that was holding my body hostage. “I didn’t want to get my hopes up to have them shattered like that…I’m sorry.” her tears were falling freely and she grabbed hold of my shoulders, holding me close and sobbing into my neck.

“I thought you had died…”

‘I did.’
