I come home the next day, a couple bags in my hands. Nick looks up as I walk through the door, a surprised look on his face when he sees what I’ve brought home. “My family decided I needed new clothes,” I say with a heavy sigh.
“Ah, right. That must’ve been annoying,” he teases with a grin.
“I wasn’t even allowed to go; they just bought the clothes themselves…”
His eyes widen a little. “You’ve got a weird family.”
“You have no idea,” I mumble, going into my room. Everything seems unchanged from when I left it. What a relief. I start putting the clothes into drawers and hesitate when I hold up something I really was not expecting to see… My mother and sister bought me guys’ underwear… The will threat is definitely not enough of a threat anymore…
“Hey, Alec?” I look up to see Nick in the doorway. “I’m gonna head out, alright? Takeru should be back in an hour.”
“Yeah, sure,” I reply, and he leaves a moment later. So I guess I have the place to myself for a little bit. Goody. After putting my new clothes away, I toss the bags into the can and walk out, collapsing onto the couch. After finding a decent television channel, I start watching it, but I am quickly interrupted by the knocking of the door. “Gaah,” I groan as I get up to answer it, and am a little surprised to see Molly there. “Uh, hey.”
“Hello, Alec.” She scans the room with her eyes slowly. “Is Nick home?”
“Nope, he just left. Maybe you can catch hi--”
“But I want you.”
“Uh… Huh???” My confusion only grows when she practically jumps into my arms. “Um.. Molly??”
“He’s being such a jerk!” she exclaims. “I swear he’s cheating on me with another woman!”
I really highly doubt he’s the cheating type… I don’t think he’d even be smart enough to keep it a secret from her if he was.
“So, I decided… that I’ll cheat on him too!”
Oookaay… “I don’t think you really wanna do that, Molly.”
“Aww,” she suddenly whines, pouting at me with her tearing eyes. “You don’t want me either? How mean!”
“Wait, what?” When is my life going to be normal again?? “Molly, I’m not gonna help you cheat on him!”
“Why not? I know you want me. The looks you gave me those couple times we’ve met…”
Umm… I’m pretty sure I never looked at her in that way… “Molly, I didn’t give you any goofy looks. And besides, Nick is my friend. I wouldn’t do something like that to him.”
She pouts and whines some more, but eventually she calms down. “I just don’t know what to do,” she admits. “He’s not normally this distant… It’s only a matter of time before he actually leaves me, I just know it.”
I try thinking of something to help calm her down. “Look… maybe he just has a lot on his mind. Takeru says that finals are coming up; maybe he’s worried about that.”
“Maybe…” She wipes her eyes and gives me her best smile. “You’re right, Alec. Thank you.”
“No problem,” I tell her, smiling a little myself. I get a little worried when she starts examining me though. “Uh, is something wrong?”
“You’re just… really feminine,” Molly explains, and I feel like I’ve just been shot through the chest.
“I get told that a lot,” I nervously say, but she obviously doesn’t seem to buy it.
“No, I mean you really look like an actual girl.”
“W-well, I’m not!” Oh gawd, I just stuttered. Now I’ll really get found out!!
“Fine then, prove it!”
Time just stops for awhile after that loud demand. “P.. prove it? How??”
“Strip for me, boy!!!”
GAAAAAHHH!!!

I am so relieved when I finally hear Takeru’s voice. I’ve been hiding in my bedroom the whole time, keeping the door locked as Molly constantly tried to break it down. I slowly peek through my door when the two of them start talking. “I’m telling you, Alec is a girl!” she pretty much shouts.
Takeru sighs a little, and gives her a serious stare. “You know, my sister thought he was feminine too, but even she didn’t truly believe her own accusations.” With a small glance to me, he starts speaking again, looking back at her as he continues, “I think your alcohol and drug abuse is frying your brain.”
“What?! How dare you! I’m clean!”
“That’s not what Nick says…”
I feel myself blink. Molly really does that stuff? It must be true, if Nick had told that to Takeru. He wouldn’t lie about something so serious, would he?
“Nick never said anything like that! I’m sure of it!” Molly shouts, but she cringes back as Takeru glares at her.
“He’s afraid to say it to you in person, but he wants to break up. That’s why he’s been avoiding you.” He narrows his eyes even more as he adds, “You should just leave now. Go ahead and ask him if you don’t believe me.”
The girl huffs in anger. “I will ask him!” she shrieks and she runs out of the house.
I actually feel bad for her. Being told something like that by your boyfriend’s friend must hurt a lot, but if it’s all true… “Are you okay?” he suddenly asks me, freeing me from my thoughts.
“Ah… yeah.. I’m fine.” I look down and he ruffles up my hair with a chuckle before heading into his own bedroom. I just stay in my room for a little while longer. My secret was almost revealed. Molly was one-hundred percent correct, but I can’t let anyone know that. Takeru came to my rescue this time, but next time I might not have anyone. How am I going to keep it a secret if my roommates have to keep coming to the rescue?

Eventually, Nick finally comes home. I glance up at him from the couch, but he looks upset. He sighs as he walks over and sits beside me. The silence just grows as we watch the show, and finally he says something. “So… I guess Takeru told her off, huh?”
I frown lightly. “I’m sorry, Nick… She already talked to you, huh?”
“More like screamed at me,” he replies with a roll of the eyes. I want to comfort him, but I don’t know how I can do it in a more manly sort of way. “It’s okay though,” he tells me. “All that shit about her… it’s all true.” It’s actually true? “But I needed away from her.”
“You ‘needed’ away?”
“Yeah… She was trying to get me on the same path as her.” Nick looks at me then, a small smile on his face. “I know I wouldn’t be happy if I was still going out with her. She’s a nice girl, but she needs help. Maybe now… she’ll get some.”
“Yeah, maybe,” I say, unable to think of anything else.
“Besides… there’s someone else I like anyway.”
… So she was right too??? Now I wonder… do I even have a clue about what’s going on around here anymore? Go away for a night and everything starts falling apart. This is getting insane. Do I even want to know what’s going to happen next?
Someone starts knocking on our door and Nick stands up to answer it. On the other side is yet another guy I don’t know. “Hey,” he says, smiling at Nick. “Do you still have a room free? I’ve been looking for a place to stay and this was closest to my school.”
… Another guy wants to live here?
