Group Arrangements

Sorry for the delay but here's another chapter no steamy scenes just yet . . . but there coming in the next chapter or so. Rate and review and enjoy. Still with Derrick in this one.

I slouched in my seat, trying to ignore the thoughts of the people around me. It was harder when there were so many people and it made me prone to headaches a lot. The guys were helping me in my keep Chelsea away scheme or at least getting her to lay off me. Bobby was sitting next to me with Ricky next to us on the other seat, Chelsea had been forced to find another seat after they purposely looked at her and said were not moving. I had sighed and I wanted to say let her sit but they both glared at me instead I had been firm with her.

“Sorry, Chels, they were here first, besides there are other places to sit,” I said.

I had left it at that and she had looked hurt. I don’t know why I hadn’t been rude and in her mind she was spitting mad.

‘How could he . . . for those dumb asses,’ she thought.

“All right, I’ll see you when you get off then,” She had said smiling.

‘That’s right when we get off and then those meddlers can’t get in the way when were off the bus,’ She said in her head.

She went and sat by one of her girl friends. She actually had lots but she was really good for neglecting them to spend time with me. But her friends always accepted her back. They thought rude things but they never just snubbed her like she seemed to deserve for snubbing them so much. They knew she was there only link to the in crowd. As much as I was thankful for them helping me I did not appreciate having to sit by two dudes the whole trip. I was hoping Sonia would sit somewhere close. It would be easier to read her thoughts if she was closer but, if that had been the case, Chelsea would have sat closer to me as well.

This was gonna suck. I did perk up when I saw her and Katrina enter the bus. Katrina glared at me before looking away and Sonia found me staring at her again and looked embarrassed but I could see the pleased look cover her face as she turned around and sat down. Good, at least she wasn’t mad at me for leaving without waking her. I felt bad about that. Katrina on the other hand still seemed a little angry at me I couldn’t understand why. I hadn’t done anything to her.

“I saw that,” Bobby whispered in my direction.

“And,” I replied crossing my arms and slouching again.

Maybe I shouldn’t have told him. He was such a bastard about things. He was good at trying to rile me up once he had the upper hand on me. I gave him a scathing look and he just turned from me grinning. This was going to be a long and irritating bus ride, I realized. I decided I was going to ignore them. I turned to the window and looked out it closing my eyes. If I concentrated really hard I would be able to pick out Sonia’s thoughts from the others.

‘I wonder if there are any cute boys there.’

‘I wonder when we can eat.’

‘This has to be the shitest bus ever.’

‘Oh look at that bird.’

‘The waters so much nicer here.’

‘I wonder if anyone ever got confused when someone told them aloha as they were leaving and the other coming.’

‘Ugh, I think I should wash my belly button more.’

At that one I had to turn and look at the person disgustedly. It was actually a girl. I turned back around to think a girl could say things like that. It was ruining my pretty little fluffy image of them. I gritted my teeth for a second why was this so hard. All everyone else had to do was stop talking so this would be easier.

‘As soon as I get off this bus I have to get to him quickly before they notice.’

I paused at that. It was coming from behind me.

‘Those meddling bastards, I’ll show them.’

Yep, Chelsea just as I thought. I controlled the urge to shake my head and sigh at her. She was really letting loose over here on the island. I wondered how I could brooch the subject of her thoughts without letting her actually know that I could read minds. I could always blame it on the guys because they did tell me everything that she said or did, whether I wanted to hear it or not. I would really have to set her straight. Not because I promised but because she was starting to blur lines together I could see. I moved away from her mind and repressed a shiver. I wasn’t a small person or weak in any way but after being in a person’s mind were they were very negative and vengeful just filled you with emotions you didn’t want to feel.

I ignored Bobby’s attempts to talk to me. He had pissed me off. I focused for Sonia. I opened my eyes and looked at the back of her head. She was staring towards the window, nodding every few seconds at whatever Katrina was talking about.

‘I wonder what today’s going to be like, it started out well enough besides the fact that I didn’t get to say goodbye.’

Ah, that must be her’s. I settled back in my seat, and just listened. It was almost like listening to an old time radio, but it was relaxing and it’s what I did for the rest of the bus ride. It kept me entertained.

We had finally stopped at the school. I saw Sonia sit up straighter and Katrina lift her head off her shoulder. I wanted to lay my head on her shoulder. It was comfortable. I glanced behind me carefully and noticed Chelsea’s eyes on me. They had actually been there for a while. She was waiting for her chance to strike as she put it.

“You know she’d gonna, try and butt in between us right,” I asked.

“Oh, so now you’re talking to me,” Bobby sneered.

“Yeah, I am, she’s determined to not let you get in between us,” I replied, scratching the back of my head
casually.

“And how do you know that,” Bobby asked. “She just walked off with a smile she looked ok to me.”

“I can just tell,” I replied.

“Oh, so you believe us this quickly that your ex girl is evil, usually a normal guy wouldn’t give in so easy,” Bobby replied standing up.

“I’m not a normal guy,” I said

He was fishing trying to make me give my secret away. Or he was trying to figure out if I knew she was evil already or not. I resisted the urge to roll my eyes and I looked away from him. I stood up as well and we all filed off the bus. As I stepped off I started walking. I looked over the heads of the people surrounding us and I found what I was looking for. The other two followed and I ended up standing near Katrina and Sonia. Good. I could tell what the teacher was thinking and as long as I maneuvered us correctly my plan would work.

‘Now where did he go,’ I heard Chelsea thinking behind us.

Come on hurry it up teach.

“All right everyone line up, straight line no everyone in the line, Chelsea go on get in there . . . there we go,” Our teacher said looking us over once satisfied. “All right I’m splitting you into groups of five, you’re going to get at least two more students from the school to join you but for now it’ll make do.”

All right, Chelsea was way at the end of the line. All the teacher had to do was group as clumps instead of equally dividing us like I knew he might.

“OK, let’s see, I thought I told you guys I was splitting you up, you’re just making it harder on yourselves.”

The teacher said shaking his head. “Ok first groups of five, Sara, Jake, Eric, Jaime, and Suzie, there we go.”

He moved on down the line. He had actually chosen them at random, this might backfire a little. I watched as the students stepped out of the line and went and stood together. They were a little awkward around one another.

I felt Bobby watching me. For what I don’t know why.

“Next, oh what have we here,” The teacher was saying.

He was looking at us closely and I met his eyes. He was thinking.

“Well this is an unusual sight,” He thought calmly. “It would be interesting . . .”

“All right, you three and you two, I’m eager to see how this plays out,” He said pointing to the five of us.

I worked very hard not to show the pleased expression on my face. Bobby, Ricky, Me, Sonia and Katrina were in a group. Ha, glad that worked out in my favor. I could feel Sonia’s surprise as she looked at me and my friends. Katrina looked at us distastefully for a moment before controlling her features. For Sonia I realized. She really did care for her. It wasn’t an idle threat she had been making. I swallowed and gave her a friendly smile that made her eyes narrow.

“Wait, I thought you said you were splitting us up,” Chelsea protested. “Those three are always together and those two.”

“Yes, but those five are not,” The teacher replied. “Besides to me it is splitting them up they’ve never worked together before all five of them have they? . . .Exactly so go on start familiarizing yourself with your
teammate of sorts.”

Bobby smirked and Ricky grinned both turning to look at Chelsea. She was fuming in her head and she glared at them but because I was watching she just turned away and stomped over to her group.

‘Does his friends not like Chelsea,’ Sonia wondered, looking at them, I turned to her and she caught my eye. ‘Crap he heard me again.’

She looked away and I was going to ask her why but I stopped myself. I forgot we weren’t alone and our friends were all watching us very closely. I frowned but I just turned to them with a smile.

“I’m pretty sure we all know each other so there’s no need for intro,” I started off. “I hope we can all work well together.”

Bobby gave me a disgusted look that mirrored Katrinas.

‘Trying to play it cool, the bastard,’ Bobby thought shaking his head.

‘He is so not fooling me,’ Katrina, thought. ‘The jerk.’

Ricky just shook his head and Sonia looked at me curiously.

‘I guess he’s trying to make us all feel more comfortable,’ She shrugged looking out at the other groups.

‘Jeez,’ Ricky thought.

Ah, that got them off of looking at the two of us.

“Come on Sony, I need to use the restroom,” Katrina said pulling Sonia away from us.

“I told you to stop calling me that,” She said.

“Oh, hush, your only saying that because he’s here,” she whispered to her teasingly.

“T-that’s not why,” Sonia replied, a little flustered.

“Hey wait, well come with you guys,” Ricky said.

“Into the girls’ restroom,” Katrina asked eyebrows raised.

“Yeah, of course we wil,l no, will wait outside for you,” Bobby interjected.

We followed them at a conservative sort of distance and Katrina was a little miffed. Well, I knew she didn’t
like me there was no getting around that one but I was away from Chelsea and showing a bit more initiative then I usually did when it came to her in a way. The rest of the class was following suit.

We had all been split up into at least four groups of five. We were already pretty big to say the least so I wondered how this was going to work out in the terms of adding the Hawaiian students to our groups. Plus, what the hell were we even going to do with groups this big. If there were five more students added there would be ten of us and what two week project required ten people? I wondered at this for a moment, occasionally glancing up at the two girls in front of us.

‘ Damn it that idiot teacher!’

I almost stopped as I heard Chelsea rage. Was it really a big deal that she had been this split up from me? I spared a glance at her and she was glaring our way but more so if I could guess correctly at Katrina. She was still on me maybe being infatuated with Katrina. Man, that girl.

‘Stupid tall, leggy broad,’ she cursed in her head. ‘Probably just drooling being in the same group as him, Damn it.’

“Great,” I sighed.

“What,” Ricky asked.

“Nothing,” I replied rubbing my forehead.

“It’s not ‘nothing’ when you look like that, and start mumbling to yourself,” Bobby replied hands in his pockets. “I’m betting it has something to do with Chelsea right?”

“How’d you guess,” I asked.

“If I had an evil banshee glaring me down I’d be worried to,” Bobby said non-chalant.

“Hmmm, you know being in the same group as your girl might not be that great if you’re trying to hide it,” Ricky said, cautiously. “She might figure it out.”

“She has but in a very roundabout way,” I said. “She thinks I’m gunning for Katrina”

“How do you know that,” Bobby asked.

“If you think about it who would seem like the more likely of my choice in women, Katrina or Sonia,” I asked. “The quiet unknown or the tall model no one can miss, hmmm, if you didn’t know me well enough who would I choose in your opinion?”

“I see your point,” Bobby nodded.

“Yeah, if you didn’t know Sonia either you wouldn’t think you two would get together,” Ricky said.

“So Now Chelsea’s thinking its miss attitude you’re after,” Ricky said. “I think she can handle herself.”

“Oh she can she let me have an earful, to,” I said. “I wonder: how do I stop her without getting closer to her?”

“Not really possible,” Bobby said.

We all leaned against the wall as Sonia and Katrina went into the bathroom and did their business. I tried to keep my thoughts trained away from them. It was awkward to hear what people were thinking while they were shitting or pissing it was just plain weird. The rest of our class shuffled past us. I lost Chelsea in the crowd and I wondered at that.

“Ah, speak of the devil,” Ricky muttered.

“What are you three doing,” she asked, slightly suspicious, but still smiling at me sweetly.

“Waiting for our group, why,” Bobby asked, staring her down.

“I was just wondering, can’t I ask a question,” She said batting her eyes at me.

“Where’s your group,” I asked. “Don’t you think you need to catch up with them?”

“There fine,” She said, twisting her pretty little hand in front of her, she looked up at me, from under her lashes. “I don’t really want to be with them anyways; maybe you could get me into your group.”

“No, we already have five people,” Ricky said, trying not to snap at her.

‘The conniving little bitch,’ he seethed in his head. ‘Not very subtle is she.’

“Why would you want to be in our group anyway,” Bobby asked. “You don’t like us, and anyways we’d have to kick one of us out, and it’s not happening.”

“Oh, come on you know I like you guys,” she said.

‘Yeah right the bastards,’ she thought.

“Just push one of the girls out, they won’t mind, Sonia or Katrina,” she pushed.

“No!”

They all looked at me surprised. I had said it a little sharper then I intended. But I wasn’t going to give up on my hard work for her scheming. I think I was getting to the fed up stage. Her evil thoughts because I was seeing it more and more were giving me headaches. She was thinking that getting in the group would either allow her to employ Sonia to give her the goods on Katrina or either kicking Sonia out would allow her to intimidate Katrina about staying away from me. Her conniving mind. . . Why hadn’t I noticed it before? She was starting to give me a headache.

“The groups are planned and there's nothing we can do about them,” I said. “Go to your group now, and stop pestering us.”

Damn it, I had snapped. I saw the hurt look on her face and the approving looks of the other two. Damn.

‘This son of a bitch he really is after that giant,’ she thought. ‘Damn it.’

“Oh, well,” she began.

‘I’ll show him not to brush me off . . . he won’t be able to resist this,’ she thought smugly.

“I’m sorry,” she cried tears welling up in her eyes,

I felt my guilt rising up even though I knew she was acting. Shit, how had I wound up with such a little high maintenance . . . ? My first reaction was going to be to run after her but Ricky put his hand on my shoulder to hold me back.

“Be strong you sensitive pansy, she just playing you, those tears are definitely fake,” Bobby said, looking after her in disgust.

Chelsea had run off, after the display of tears. I kept my stance against the wall brooding. Well it was just the starting steps of getting her out of my system.

‘Hmmm, I wonder what that was all about,’ Katrina thought.

“Hey where’s the rest of the class,” Sonia asked. “Why is Chelsea running down the hall like that.”

‘Were those tears,’ Sonia wondered.

“There already at the room,” Bobby supplied ignoring the Sonia’s question.

“Oh, “She took the hint to not ask more.

“Let’s get going then, Sony,” Katrina said pulling her along,

“Don’t forget about us, we are a part of the rest of the group,” Ricky said.

‘Yeah, I’m sure glad he isn’t after Katrina I’d definitely liked to sink my teeth into this one,’ He thought, lecherously.

I rolled my eyes as we followed them. This was definitely going to be an interesting day.
