Chapter 36- The Gate and the Keys
Alright! Time to tie up some loose ends here. Like, \'What the hell are those keys for!?\' and \'Why is Beras obsessed with John?\'. Well my readers (And reviewer too of course) we are about to enter the final stages. As t- opps! Can\'t say that or I\'d be giving too much away! Read on!
Chapter 36
\"Allow me to tell you a story first. It should make everything else easier to explain,\" Kira began.
Long ago, when mankind had reached it\'s most powerful stage in magic arts, a great entity arose. Whether it was the revenge of a cast out angel made into physical form, the cry of war from an all-powerful demon, or simply the corrupted soul of a human being, no one is sure. However, what is sure is that this all-powerful entity threatened to destroy the world and cast it into chaos. For reasons best left unto the entity itself, it hated the world it existed in, and wished it all destroyed and crafted into his image of a true perfect world. It didn\'t matter who or what rose up against it, demon, angel, and human alike were all to be crushed and wiped away.
Times were dark, as every known caster was sent to destroy this being before it destroyed them. But none could possibly harm it, for it resisted all magic and weapons. Angels could only watch the humans succumb to thier fate, while demons simply stood aside and watched the extinction of the world. Before it\'s dark goal was complete, a human, an angel, and a demon came together in a binding pact. Together, with an unbreakable bond, they drove the being into a void of nothingness, and sealed it away behind the \'Dark Gate\'.
To ensure that this threat would forever be sealed, they cast a powerful spell over the door, that bonded with thier very beings. Then, each one gave up it\'s own form, and imprisoned themselves into orbs, sealing away thier magic that could undo the spell. The three orbs were scattered and hidden, to ensure that the beast would remain safely locked away. Over time, this deed became legend, and soon was forgetton...
\"John... Jessica... Aivon. Listen well. A pact of 7 demons have been trying to resurrect this ancient being. So far they have two keys needed to open the Dark Gate. They do not know... very few now know... that this being cannot be controled. They foolishly believe that they can conquer the world if they could unleash this monster and command it. And while it is true that world will be destroyed, the being cannot be controled. No force in this world has the power to control it, and yet they hope to try.\"
\"Then... they have to be stopped!\" Jessica said.
\"Yes, but do not fret. Many of the 7 have already been destroyed. You three yourselves destroyed the fifth one. His name, I believe, was Atrois.\"
\"Atrois!? You mean he was one of the seven?\" John said perplexed.
\"Indeed, as is his brother, Hieas, and Beras the one you seek John.\"
\"Wait, so Beras is also on this? He\'s in that pact?\" Aivon asked. He had expected probably his own father.
\"Yes. Despite the fact he is not as powerful as any of the other seven, Beras was inducted into the pact as the last member.\"
\"Wait, so then, what does this have to do with my father?\" John asked.
\"Your father found one of the keys. Although he didn\'t know it at the time, and probably never did, it was the reason Hieas sought him out.\" Kira explained. \"However, despite this, Beras still sought him out. Why he did, I may not know. Beras probably had his reasons.\"
John remembered, what felt like long ago in that tower, the way Beras talked of his father. He suddenly felt sick to his stomach as to what his suggestions to that was.
\"Now is your test... I had a vision before... \'An angel shall fall, a demon shall rise, and one divided in two, shall go and test Destiny. They shall battle and at the hour of darkness, mankind\'s destiny is left to Fate.\' I believe you are the ones that will go and stop them.\"
\"All that is left is to choose. You may run from this John. You may choose to turn back. But remember, if you choose this path, you cannot undo your choice. You must follow it to the bitter end, to whatever lies beyond that mystery.\" Midas said.
\"Well John, what are you gonna do?\" Aivon asked.
\"I\'m going with you, no matter what you decide.\" Jessica said confidently.
\"I...\" John looked to the ground pondering all this. Truthfully, he couldn\'t turn his back on the world... not when it seemed to need him most. On the other hand, he had no clue if any of them would even come back alive. They may fail, although not exactly for lack of trying. John looked hard to the seer, Kira, and Midas. \"I\'m going. If it will take me closer to Beras so I can finish the score with him, then I see no reason to back down.\"
\"In that case, I will accompy you. You will need me on this journey of yours,\" Midas said. \"And while you may continue to hunt down Beras, never forget there are other, more important things to be done.\" John nodded at this. \"In that case, please wait for me outside. I must have a word with the seer.\"
John and the others left to wait for Midas outside the temple. As soon as they were gone, he faced Kira.
\"Well? What do you think of him now?\" Kira asked.
\"Well, he is brave, I will give him that. Although I rather liked his response. He\'s doing this, only to further his own quest. It seems the angels knew he would choose this path.\"
\"Perhaps, although not in the way he chooses it.\"
\"What do you mean?\" Midas inquired.
\"I mean, he can choose the way he wants to take this path... it doesn\'t matter, he will get to the end no matter what he does. His life, his Fate, is tied to this.\"
\"And what of her Fate? Is it bound too?\"
\"I cannot say. Truthfully, I do not expect her to live but...\"
\"Oh she will live, that can be assured. You don\'t need a vision to see that.\"
\"What makes you so sure, Midas?\"
Midas smirked, although it was unseeable as his enchanted scarf covered it. \"He is human... he can change his Destiny.\"
\"Perhaps. But what makes you think he can change her\'s as well?\"
Midas walked to the door, and gave a low chuckle. \"Because of that fact, because of his human heart that remains unbounded by any force but his own. Simply put, because he loves her.\" Midas opened the door to the outer chambers and shut it behind him. Kira turned around and stared off into space.
\"......I think... he will need more then love, in order to save her. Much more.\"
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
\"Beras... where are you?\"
\"Here.\" Beras appeared from the darkness, facing Hieas. \"What do you want?\"
\"I want to know if you found the last key yet.\"
\"Not yet. I\'m working on it. And speaking of which, shouldn\'t you be working on the Destined\'s arrival? He is near your area of patrol if I am not mistaken.\"
\"I will handle this matter my own way. As long as that boy John doesn\'t interfere, there is no reason now to waste anymore time or energy on him.\"
Hieas vanished away, leaving Beras alone to look at the two keys thy had found. \"Somehow... that pest will interfere. Somehow, I just know it...\"
Beras too left the room, but not before muttering to himself, \"Just like his father...\"
