Everything Will Be Alright
I just stood there, I couldn't tell you how long I'd been there. The sight before me was uncomprehensible. I was actually wearing a size six, comfortably. The beginning of this summer I had no idea the outcome would be like this. I did thank my mother. I feel different, better, I feel like, there is no need to hide who I am anymore. Sure, my summer sucked ass, but I will always remember it as the summer that everything started to get better.
While searching through the pile of clothes heaped on my bed, I heard a soft knock on my door.
"Come in," I called standing up and looking at the door with a shirt in each hand. Slowly I saw Clarissa peak her head around the door. At the sight of me she flung the door open and gaped at me for a few seconds. "Um....yea....I am looking for my friend Melanie, have you seen her?" She joked.
"Shut up!" I said dropping the shirts and running over to her give her a hug. I squeezed her tight and squealed, " I have missed you so freakin much."
She laughed and said, "I can tell." Letting go she took a step back and looked me over from head to toe. "You look really good, Mel. I mean I could hardly recognize you. You know what I think it's the smile."
Putting on an even bigger cheesy grin, "Get used to it sister."
"Okay, um...... where is Melanie, I mean it what have you done with her," was her reply.
Smiling I retorted, "I lost her at fat camp."
Chuckling she said, "Good she was starting to be a real bitch."
"Hey......," I acted offended, and swatted her arm.
"Okay.....so.....I have to hear all about fat camp." Clarissa stated making her way to the only clean spot on the floor and taking a seat. " It evidently works, considering half of my best friend was lost there."
"Not half, only 31 pounds of her," I revealed.
"Thirty-one pounds!!!," she exclaimed. "Melanie, that is awesome....wow."
I walked over and hopped up on my bed beside the heap of new clothes. Crossing my legs and putting a pillow on my lap I began my story. I told her all about the tortuous exercise and the endless counting of calories. I explained how out of place I felt there, and how I wished for home almost every second. I told her how much I missed her, and some days it felt as if the summer was going to be eternal. I told her about begging my parents not to come to parents day. When it came time to tell her about the dance, I felt butterflies in my stomach. I have been wanting to tell her about Brice from the moment I saw her, but I wanted to wait until the right time. This was the time.
"Yea, every year at the end of summer they have this big dance, its like this major event." I explained.
"Well, that sounds fun." she said being her usually cheery self.
"Yea, at first I really didn't want to go....... but I um........changed my mind." I told her trying to casually hint that I had met someone. I mean I just didn't want to blurt it out.
"What is it Mel......," Clarissa asked knowing me so well. "I know there is something you want to tell me, so spill."
Blushing thinking about Brice and our first kiss I just said, " I met a guy."
Smiling she joked, "Those fat guys must know how to bust a move."
Throwing a pillow at her I said, " He wasn't fat, he was........perfect."
"Wait a minute, wait a minute, I thought Lucas Hope was perfect?" Clarissa asked with a confused look on her face.
"He is, but there can be more than one perfect guy." I stated trying to explain.
"Okay, I see, so if ‘fat camp' perfect guy isn't fat, what was he doing at fat camp." she asked
"His father owns it," I told her. Raising her eyebrows at me she urged me to go on. "We met the last day of camp. He thought I was a counselor," I said with a smirk. "Yea I was sitting there minding my own business when this hot ass dude comes up to me and introduces himself." I went on. "His name is Brice, and oh my God Clarissa, the dude is gorgeous. Tall, dark, and handsome."
"Come on, a woman needs details." she stated.
"Well, he's tall, I'd say around 6'1". He has the quirky bed head thing going on." I smiled remembering running the tips of my fingers through it while we kissed. "Oh, man, his eyes......no words can describe the color of light brown they were." I continued. "He was really cool too, we instantly just clicked."
"So did you guys have fun at the dance?" She asked while nibbling on her fingernail.
Leaning back on my elbows I sighed, "yea, for the two minutes we were there it was okay."
Sitting up straighter to get a better look at my face she asked, "what do you mean the two minutes you were there?"
"Well, he is the owners son......evidently he picked up on a few tricks. We snuck out." Clarissa stared at me with wide eyes, when I finally realized she was waiting for the rest I continued. "Yea, we went to his dads office to get junk food and um.......scotch. Nasty stuff." I added seeing the questioning look on her face. "Anyway, he took me to his favorite spot. Its this big platform thing in the middle of the lake, it was really .......peaceful." Silently I replayed the night in my mind. The smell of the air and the gentle rocking of the platform. The feel of Brice's lips against mine. I got lost in the sweet memory of his taste. Realizing I had been quiet for too long I looked over at Clarissa who was staring at me intently. She was waiting for me to finish. I looked at her and smiled, " He said I was beautiful...... then he kissed me. Clarissa I swear to you that kiss was better than any kiss I have ever seen in the movies."
"You little slut," Clarissa giggled.
"Well if kissing a guy you barely know makes you a slut, I guess I am. Seriously, it was....... more than words can describe. Too bad, I'll never see him again." With that I let out another long sigh, and leaned back against the headboard of the bed.
"Hey, you never know, what if he was like your soul mate, and you guys were ment to be together. Stuff like that really does happen." Clarissa assured.
"Yea, well, probably not to me, I mean I didn't even get his address. He left before I got a chance to say goodbye." I said a little too sadly. "But, he did leave a note for me," I said opening the drawer to my night stand and pulling out the tattered note. After giving Clarissa the short letter, I watched her face intently, searching for a clue as to what she was thinking it all ment.
When she finished the note, Clarissa gently folded it back to its original shape. Handing it back to me she said, "You should send a letter to the camp, it would be a shame if you too didn't keep in touch, I mean he did ask you to write him and all."
"Yea, but what would I say, ‘you're hot, and you're a good kisser, wanna be my soul mate', I joked teasingly.
"Hey, it's a start. I have a feeling he would get a kick out of it," Clarissa answered honestly.
Thinking for a second I said, "you're right he probably would."
"Enough about me, how was your trip?" I asked changing the subject. I sat there for the next half hour trying to listen to her tell me about her vacation. My mind kept wondering back to my last night at fat camp. To the way I felt so completely comfortable with Brice. I imagined if I ever saw him again I would wrap my arms around him and never let him go. That is if I ever saw him again............

Clarissa and I decided that we were going to have an old fashion slumber party. We were going to rent scary movies, and pop popcorn. And of course, stay up late and talk about guys. After telling my mom that we were going to walk to the movies store, I met Clarissa outside. The air was getting a little cooler letting us know that summer was almost over. The time had passed by so fast, I felt like I never really got a vacation. "So what do you feel like tonight....the Scream Trilogy, or something a little more gory." Clarissa asked on our short walk to the video store.
Looking at her I smiled, its funny how so many things can change, but at the same time so many things stay the same. Clarissa is my best friend, and I hope that never changes. "I was thinking gore," I said as I opened the door to the video store, hearing the tiny bells jingle in my wake. Not looking where I was going, I ran smack dab into someone that was on their way out of the store, knocking their rented movies into the floor. Not lifting my eyes, I quickly gathered the dropped cases while offering my apologies. As soon as I heard the voice say, "No problem," I knew exactly who it was.....Lucas Hope.
Nervously I pulled my self up, holding out the movies I had collected for him to take. He reached out for the movies, and our eyes connected. For a moment I thought I saw the slightest recognition, but it quickly dispersed. Shyly I diverted my eyes when I noticed he was still staring. Then he gathered the movies under one arm and held out his hand, "I'm Lucas.....Hope." Smiling internally because I knew exactly who he was I lightly shook his hand, " Melanie........" At that exact moment I heard a honk outside the store then he said, "That's my ride.....," looking at me, "it was nice to meet you."
"You too," I replied stepping to the side letting him pass. Clarissa and I watched as he back stepped all the way to the vehicle on the curb, never taking his eyes off me. Tripping once and dropping all of his movies again, he looked a little embarrassed as he climbed into the passenger side of the car.
"Oh my God, oh my God, oh my God, can you freakin believe that just happen," I screeched while holding on to Clarissa's hands jumping up and down. "After three years of pining for him, all it took was six weeks at fat camp to make him talk to me, I should of went a long time ago."
"Melanie, I told you, every thing is going to be alright, good people get what they deserve. And now you do not have only one guy interested, looks to me like there are two." She said while pulling me to the horror section of the video store.
"Lucas Hope, can you believe it, do you think he was checking me out?" I asked honestly?
Laughing out loud Clarissa answered, "Um..... yea........ he defiantly wasn't not checking you out."
Blushing as I followed Clarissa around while she picked us out movies to watch I thought to myself, yea, everything is going to be alright.
