Chapter 7: The hardest part is things already said
She heard a womans laughter. It sounded like music. The soft lilting voice with an irish accent was coming from her left. Jessi followed the sound until she saw a woman and a little girl playing under a sprawling willow tree. Mama.......and Katie Lee the wind whispered.
Jessi suddenly found herself racing across the field to them.
The woman looked up at Jessi with a smile that quickly turned into a frown. \"Jessi, what are you doing here?\" \"oh, Mama I\'ve missed you so.\" The woman held out her arms and Jessi fell into them. She cried for what felt like hours. She cried until she had no tears left. Until the heard a voice that didn\'t belong to her mother or sister. \"please forgive me ,baby.\" \"I wasn\'t there\" the voice said.
\"Jessi, baby girl, you need to listen to me. You don\'t belong here and you know it. I know you\'re scared and you feel all alone but you\'re not. There are people who love you. Me, Katie Lee, Your step-mama and baby sister. We all love you. And we aren\'t the only ones. I know it\'s bad for you baby. I know all that has gone on, but even so, sweety it\'s not your time. There\'s still so much you have to do. I know it\'s a lot to ask but you need to go. Your sister and step-mom aren\'t safe yet. They need you. And so does your young man. They all need you Jess. You can\'t let them down.\" Jessi\'s mother caressed her face and hugged her as she said these words.
\"But, Mama, I can\'t. I\'m so tired. Why? Why do I have to be the one. Why can\'t someone else do it?\" Jessi burst into tears again. \"No one ever saved me so why should I save them\" Jessi hated herself as she said the words. Because she remembered, oh God, she remembered it all. And God help her she didn\'t want to go back.
\"Honey, you have to make the choice all I can tell you is that someday, I don\'t know when, it will ALL be worth it. And Katie Lee and I will always be here. When it is your time, we will be here. But the choice is yours, sweetheart. All you gotta do is make it.\"
Jessi took a deep breath. She wanted to stay. She told her mother that. but then she heard the voice again. She heard the pain and anguish behind it. \"JESSI\" She felt like she was being ripped in two. Mother and sister and light or mother and sister and lover and darkness.
She faced her mother and sister. She heard the voice again and turned her face towards it. \"i\'m sorry.\" It was barely a whisper but it was enough. The choice had been made. She was at peace with her decision.

AN: I know I know it\'s been long enough huh. Just had a bad case of writers block. Just so you know this story really doesn\'t have an end in sight. There is still a lot more to the story. More abuse betrayal and even a death (i think) before our hero and heroine end up happy if they ever do. but hey thats the fun of reading a story. anyhoo thanks for all the wonderful reviews.
