Chapter 6

A few weeks later....

“Trenton! I’m starving. Are you done yet?”

“Just about, Clive. Just a few more minutes!” Trenton called from the storage closet at Attitudes. He was finishing up restocking.

“Bettina, darling, Trent and I are going over to Lavender’s Green for lunch. We should be back within an hour.”

“Got ya, Clive. We should be fine without you two for an HOUR.”

“Looks like it’s going to snow any day now.”

“Probably.”

“All ready, Clive.” Trenton came up next to him.

Clive got their coats and they bundled up and braced for the cold. They walked quickly through the streets until they reached Lavender’s Green.

Only to find it closed.

“CLOSED?! It’s NEVER closed! This is—!” Clive stammered.

“Clive, there’s a sign. “Closed until next week. Under new management and undergoing renovations/remodeling. Please come again for the New Grand Opening! Free Drinks all next week! Live acts every night! New and improved Karaoke Bar! Larger dancing hall!”

“Well I want to find out what the devil is going on here.” Clive banged on the door.

The new girl, Lorna, answered the door. “Hi, Clive. I’m really sorry, but we’re closed.”

“What’s going on? Who bought Lavender’s and why all this remodeling?”

“Um...” She shifted from one foot to the other... “It’s kinda a secret. He doesn’t want lots of people to know....”

“I would like, very much, to speak with him. Now, if you don’t mind my good girl.”

“Ok, one sec.” The door closed. A few moments later she opened the door to let them in.

“He’ll be right over. I have to get back to work! Cheers!” She scurried off into a new section of Lavender’s Green. What had once been the bar now was a wall with double doors in it leading into an entirely new section. The rest was very much the same, tables, chairs...just more of them. The karaoke bar and stage was gone.

“Oh, my god.” Trenton said, mouth agape.

“I couldn’t put it better myself.” Casey swaggered in from the other room. “Like it?” He had a dashingly good smile on his face.

They both stared at him as if he had suddenly stripped naked.

“What? No hello? Nice to see you too. Don’t all speak at once.” Casey said dryly.

“You...bought Lavender’s Green?” Clive said, disbelieving.

“Yep. Wonderful, isn’t it? I’m going to kick start this whole place into the 21st Century. It’s going to be FABulous. If I do say so myself. Want to be on the VIP list?”

“I beg your pardon?”

“VIP list. Spreaken de English?” Casey joked. “Look, this is still going to be Lavender’s Green. I’m not messing with it, I’m just expanding. The menu is staying the same. I have hired NOR fired anyone. Toddy and Bri are still behind the bar, Elise is STILL in the kitchen. No worries. I’m just spitting it in two. This side will be the restaurant and next door will be a karaoke bar, regular bar and dance club. It’ll be great. The VIP list gets in without any waiting and free drinks and other stuff I think up as I go along. I’ll do theme nights, Mari Gras, Luaus, Masquerades, and for the less...subdued, a wild fantasy night. Bondage and the like. What do you say?” Casey sounded really excited.

Trenton looked eagerly up at Clive.

“You know you want to....” Casey said, teasingly.

“Only if you explain a few things to us. Such as where have you been? You hardly seem the same person.”

“Only sounds fair. Let’s do it over lunch. I’ll see what I can dig up in the kitchen. Come on back.” Casey headed back with a near gig in his step. His whole demeanor was different. He was sure of himself, happy, strong. He hummed a tune as he walked, smiles abound to everyone they met.

Clive and Trenton both gave each other looks. This wasn’t the same man, was it?

“Here we are, the VIP seats of the day. We only have a few select items on the menu today, gentle sirs.” Casey said, taking over the role as a gracious host. “May I suggest some champagne and a pasta salad for an appetizer?”

“Champagne?” Clive said.

Trenton perked up.

“To celebrate and to apologize for not being in contract with you. Been rather a few hectic weeks. I had to get everything signed over into my name and reassure countless people that I’m not going to ruin Lavender’s. So...where to begin. Ah. You last saw me in a horrid state. But after I got my affairs in order, bank, lodgings...I decided I need to leave my mark in this world. I needed to make a name for myself. And so I shall. Not just with Lavender’s, but, oh, it will help. I’m not saying I’m going to get this place a technological revolution, just maybe a sexual one. Like what Madonna did in the 80s. She broke down so many barriers for young women. Like Marilyn Monroe.” Casey let out a little sigh. “Not that any of that meant much to you. Sorry.”

Both Clive and Trenton looked flabbergasted.

Casey poured them a glass and raised it up. “For a nice change.”

“To change.” Clive said, still a bit unsure what Casey was up to.

“To change.” He grinned, he couldn’t wait to see what Casey was up to.
