It was a half hour pass six when Morgan arrived home, she left the door unlocked. She made her way into the apartment while kicking her shoes off. She undid the buttons to her uniform and collapse on the couch, she turned on the TV and glanced back.
The apartment was unusually quiet.
“Lily!” she called out but the apartment was empty. “The fuck,” she mumbled and stood up with the intent to search the place, just then the door flew open and Lily stumbled in late.
“I'm sorry I'm late,” Lily was panting heavily as Morgan just raised an eyebrow at her.
“where the hell where you,” She asked.
“I went to the park and lost track of time,” Morgan was going to demeaned her, but realized barely yesterday she had returned pleading for forgiveness. She swallowed hard the negative comment that threaten to emerge and just sat on the couch again.
Lily visibly astounded quickly made her way to the kitchen and started to make something quick.
'better keep her in a good mood,' Lily thought.
That night in bed, Lily knew what would take place, if she wanted to be injury free she had to just give in. But nothing happened, Morgan fell asleep, and Lily slept with one eye open still.
(J.J)
“Have you worked on your list?”
“A little,” J.J pulled out the notebook from her back pocket and flipped a couple of pages as she counted how many things she had added to her list. Which was just the addition of one more thing.
Elizabeth raised an eyebrow and J.J mumbled, “I like throwing the ball far so the dog gets tired faster.”
Elizabeth smiled, she had to admit J.J was trying hard. It might not seem like it but J.J was actually putting effort even if J.J herself didn't want to admit it.
“Does it bother you that Matt leaves to these family functions and your not invited?”
J.J shook her head, “I'm not really part of that family. Plus Mariel puts up enough with Matt when he has to leave so suddenly.”
“Do you feel guilt?”
J.J sucked her lower lip, “I try not to, but that fails at times.”
Elizabeth tapped her pencil on the desk. “What exactly do you feel guilty about?”
“I rather not talk about that,” Elizabeth leaned forwards and wagged her finger, J.J leaned forward.
“Let me see,” Elizabeth placed her hands palm up as J.J hesitated and placed her hands on top of Elizabeth.
J.J tensed when Elizabeth grabbed her wrist and turned her hands.
“Why only the left hand,”
J.J swallowed hard, Elizabeth noted there were no hesitation marks but if J.J was truly serious she could have easily slice both wrist.
“does thinking of Matt prevent somethings.” J.J shrugged her shoulders and looked away.
“We can't keep an eye on you 24/7 for the rest of your life. My job is to try and get ya to think, to get you to hesitate.”
“that's a first,” J.J mocked, she wasn't enjoying the session anymore.
“How about you write about your perfect mate and tell me about it next time.”
J.J looked at the doctor and nodded, “what ever floats your boat.” J.J mumbled.
(Lily)
Lily walked down the pathway to her usual bench and was surprise to see J.J sitting there, she looked down at her watch. It was barely four thirty.
“Your here early,” Lily commented. J.J smiled, “Yeah they came for the dog early.”
“your out of work early,” J.J kept the conversation going.
“Yeah, I went in earlier don't want to be home late,” Lily blushed remembering her sudden departure.
“yeah about that, you took off so suddenly for a sec I thought I did something bad.” J.J played with her little pill box. She liked how it looked, she hated the content in it though.
“I lost track of time and I had someone waiting at home for me.” Lily wanted to keep Morgan a secret, no need for J.J to know about her.
“Fair enough,” J.J glanced to the side and took in Lily, she had her clothes neatly pressed, she sat with her legs close together and her hands were neatly folded on her lap.
J.J kept playing with her pill box when she dropped it. Lily leaned down and retrieved it for her.
“are these like antibiotics?” she asked handing the box back. J.J swallowed hard as their fingers brushed slightly. She took the box back and shook her head.
“they're my anti-depressant pills.” J.J admitted why she did it, she had no clue.
Lily frowned as she looked confused, “you don't look depressed.”
J.J chuckled as she tapped Lily's nose, “your so naïve. It's Because I'm on these, the chemicals in my brain are balance and I appear normal.” J.J shook the box to emphasize her point.
“why are you depressed?” Lily scooted a bit closer and J.J tensed swallowing hard.
“Certain things, events, thoughts and emotion.” J.J gripped the box.
Noticing her discomfort Lily started to move, “don't,” J.J grabbed a hold of her wrist. “Just sit where you are don't mind me.”
J.J let go of Lily, Lily nodded while J.J tried to regain her composure.
“I'm not good with personal space,” J.J mumbled. “It's okay,” Lily placed her hand on top of J.J's hand, the one that was gripping the box.
“It's all in the breathing,” Lily took deep breaths and J.J mimic her, calming down. The blood rushed normally through J.J's finger once again as she relaxed a bit.
“there we go,” Lily smiled as she moved her hands away. It was J.J's turn to blush. “glad I can be useful,” Lily mumbled lowly.
“don't sell ya self so short,” J.J chuckled a bit, 'oh I'm going to regret this,' she thought.
Lily got home on cloud nine and she made it exactly at six she quickly hurried into the kitchen were she found a mess. Pots and pans where thrown all about. Some containers she had in the fridge now adorned the walls and the floor.
She was pulled back abruptly by her hair. “I thought I told you I wanted dinner by six.”
“I'm sorry,” she whimpered, she could smell the liquor on Morgan. Morgan let go of her hair and grabbed the back of her neck and pushed her against the counter.
“look at this fucking mess, we wouldn't be having this mess if you just fucking have my food by six.”
Morgan tripped her down, Lily landed on a pot and groaned as Morgan lifted her up by the wrist and half dragged her to the room.
'shit,' Lily thought, the serenity was short lived. Lily then realized it was pay day and Morgan got hammered when It came to payday.
Lily manage to get to her feet only to fall by the sudden push, Morgan's hand connected with her lower back as half her body landed on the bed and the other on the nigh stand.
By now Lily was crying and whimpering in pain, Morgan still not feeling remorse slapped her as she ripped Lily's uniform off her.
“No,” Lily shouted it was her only uniform.
Morgan gripped her cheeks, “don't you tell me what to do.” She slapped Lily again. Lily licked her lips tasting blood. She could feel her cheek swelling up while Morgan move her hands to Lily's neck and squeezed.
Lily trashed her legs trying to breath as she coughed and cried. Morgan release at the last moment, feeling a surge of adrenaline as she played God. She squeeze Lily's neck again. Lily was close to blacking out when, when Morgan had enough and move on to the hem of her pants.
Lily was just whimpering shutting her eyes hoping everything will be over soon.
(J.J)
J.J sat on the bench waiting, she waited an hour. She got bored so she walked around the park, she sat again and waited another hour. J.J counted the cracks on the sidewalk while she pace the area. She kept waiting when she realized the sun was close to setting and she had to get home. Matt most likely was waiting for her.
The next day was the same routine, Albeit J.J hated the routine she couldn't help doing it. She waited and waited and still no Lily.
Finally on the fourth day after J.J had returned the dogs to their respective owners, she marched into the little grocery store and cut in front of a line.
“Hey where's Lily?” J.J got glared by the people in line, “Oh shut it,” J.J retorted as more people complained.
“I don't get what's the deal, I'm not buying anything and he's scanning your items,” J.J looked at the young man who had no idea what to do except keep scanning.
“Ms. Can I help ya?” J.J turned to see the manager, “Yeah Where's Lily.”
“I'm wondering that myself too,” he replied and J.J frowned.
“you know where she lives.” The manager hesitated at first, he wanted control in the store again and if it meant getting rid of J.J the sooner then so be it.
“Follow me,” J.J followed while she turned around and flip off the guy that was complaining the most.
Once out of the store J.J followed Lily's path, J.J took in the scenery as she made it to an apartment complex. J.J looked at the call box but no where in the list was Lily's name.
So J.J waited for almost forty minutes until some one came out. She squeeze in looking at the piece of paper she had in hand.
She walked up the stairs and found the apartment. J.J looked at her watch, it was close to six, no matter Matt could wait. She thought.
She knocked on the door, she heard some rustling on the inside and the door creaked open.
J.J peeked her head in and stopped breathing. Lily opened the door expecting Morgan, thinking she had forgotten her key, she opened with out hesitation.
“the fuck,” J.J stepped inside as Lily tried to push her out, “No J.J you have to go, Morgan is gonna be here soon.”
“What the fuck happened?” J.J asked as she took one of Lily's hand and notice the bruises adorning her arm along with the swollen cheek. Her right eye was barely opened. Lily's lip was fat and puffy.
“The hell Lily,” J.J walked in and found the kitchen, she turned the faucet on to hot and found some salt, she manage to get a cup poured some in and mixed it with the hot water.
Lily's heart was pounding horribly as she kept begging J.J to leave.
“I'm not leaving here with out you, come on.”
“Please please, you have to go Morgan is going to be home soon.” J.J shook her head. “Lily you don't have to take this, come with me.”
Lily shook her head furiously, “Please Jane,” J.J stopped in her tracks as she dipped the wash cloth in the cup and gently pressed it onto Lily's lip. Lily too worry about Morgan didn't feel the stinging on her lip.
“Please,” Lily whimpered as tears streamed down her face. “Fuck,” J.J mumbled, she couldn't force Lily no matter how much she wanted to.
“I'll explain everything later,” J.J wanted to shake her head. “Damn it Lily,” she whispered as she dipped the cloth in again and cleaned Lily's bloody lip. Lily grabbed a hold of J.J wrist and looked at her.
J.J couldn't look away from the soft blue eyes that pleaded desperately. J.J was about to speak up when the door knob to the front door move.
(A/N: See the button under my pen name, don't be afraid of that one either, and yes I did mean for this cliffhanger to happened.)
