Six

I stare up at the ceiling that night in my room. “I was worried about you.” Nick’s words still ring in my ears. Worried about me, huh? That still doesn’t give him the right to follow me, does it?! Isn’t that stalking?! I sigh as I try to find sleep… but I can’t.

If Nick hadn’t been there, what would have happened then? That guy would have… I try to push those thoughts away, but they don’t leave me alone. Nick was nice enough to keep an eye on me, but he was following me. I don’t like that. If he continues to follow me around places, then he might figure out that I’m a girl! Unless he knows already… AAAHHH!!!

I quickly sit up in my bed. If he already knows I’m a girl, that would explain why he was so worried about me being alone like that. Oh no!!!

The next morning I try acting as though nothing happened between us, but I still can’t help but keep glancing at him, wondering how much he really knows. This can’t just be a simple coincidence! And it’s not anyway! He pretty much admitted following me in the first place! Argh… I seriously need to talk to Crissy about this. Maybe she can let me call it off before they figure it out.

“Are you okay, Alec?” Takeru asks me, catching me off guard.

“Yeah, I’m fine, why?”

“Well, you were pretty much staring at Nick just now.”

“No I wasn’t!” I exclaim.

Nick narrows his eyes at me. “You little liar. We both saw you.”

“I was not staring!”

“Heh, embarrassed that you’ve been caught, kiddo?” Nick grins at me then. “I didn’t realize you were gay.”

Gay…? I can almost feel the color draining from my face. I guess that means he doesn’t think I’m a girl but now he thinks I like him. What’s gonna happen next??

“Hahahahahaha!! Oh my gawd, he seriously said that, Nana?! Hahahaha, oh this is priceless!!” I frown at my sister’s enjoyment of my problems that keep popping up. Is she ever serious about anything?? “Oh, Nana, this is just too funny.”

“Funny for you… I want to call it off. I can’t do this anymore,” I tell her, poking at the slice of pie she gave me with my fork. I don’t trust Crissy’s cooking… especially after seeing how messy her kitchen is.

“You can’t just give up now!!” she shouts, looking me right in the eyes. “This could still be worth it!”

“How so…? What are you planning?”

My suspicions only grow when she starts looking far too innocent for her own good. “Planning? I’m not planning anything, dear sister.” She smiles happily at me then. “But it’s great to know you have guys fighting over you.”

“What?! They think I’m gay! There’s no way they’re ‘fighting over me’!”

“Oh foo, you’re always so negative,” Crissy says, munching on some of her pie. “They could be bi.”

My head meets the table with a thud. “Crissy, I’m not interested in either of them!”

“LIAR!!!” she practically screams, causing me to jump. “I know you have your eyes on at least one of them. And it’s probably the more obvious choice.”

“Huh?”

“The single Asian guy, right? With the boyish sister?”

“Er…”

“Still, that’s so typical.” Crissy leans back in her chair and thinks. “Maybe try getting this Nicky guy to fall for you. Oh, I know! Get another girly ally, and then make both guys fall in love with you!”

……… “Crissy…”

“Yes?”

“I am not doing that!! I’m not even gonna live with them anymore! I quit!!”

“You better not, mister!!”

“I’m your sister not your brother!! Get it right, sheesh!!!”

I think there’s about to be a catfight, but then the door opens and we both look at it, only to see our mother come in. She walks over to us, smiling as usual, until she looks down at me. “Nana, what the hell happened to your beautiful hair?”

“She’s living with two guys,” Crissy tells her.

“I’m moving out!” I try to explain, and Mom only looks down at me.

After a moment, she asks, “Why are you moving out?”

“Because they think I’m a gay guy and I’m tired of pretending…”

“Oh, how exciting!!” she exclaims, surprising me. This could be bad… “Don’t give up yet, dear! This could be a valuable experience for you! Ah yes, learning about manhood while deceiving two men… and then when the time is right, both of them will declare their love for you and then you will reveal what you truly are and then you’ll all live happily ever after…”

“Isn’t it wonderful?” Crissy adds in. “Our beautiful Nana, having two princes by her side rather than one…”

“You’re both insane…” I mutter, but they ignore me as they continue talking out their fantasies about me and my “princely” roommates. I guess I know where Crissy’s insanity comes from then…

After a few minutes of their fantasizing, my mother turns to me, giving me a serious look. “Nana… I know you can do better than two years.” Oh no… Oh no, no, no… “Why don’t you go for four?”

“F-four??”

“Maybe five.”

“F-f… f-f… five???”

“And I can help you get a whole new wardrobe!”

I feel myself losing a growing battle. There’s no way I can back out now, not with both of them in on it.

I’m so doomed… I guess it’s time to write my will… “Maybe a new hair color would work,” I hear Crissy say, and then they start thinking of colors. When they start talking about new fashion genres for me to wear, I know I have no chance against them anymore. My death will be all their doing… So yes, I will write my will… and leave them nothing!!!
