Chapter 6

A/N: It seems I couldn't resist putting another chapter out.

Alvernion: Well, it seems to be 4 chapters at once, now. The answer to what Angel's gonna do is just below! And yes, you definately CAN be fixated on Damien. Your reviews make me laugh, though that might because I'm hyped up on skittles right now... Thanks for reviewing, they make me happy.

Angel contemplated on how to wake the woman up. He thought about pounding on the glass, but he didn’t like the vibrations that it caused in such a small place.

Besides, they’d probably end up giving him something else his kind was allergic to.

Angel swam around lazily, thinking that he could last a few more days without food before it started to take it’s toll on him.

The merman went up to the rock, one of the few things that he was glad of that they put in there. It would have helped if the rock had a hole large enough for him to go into. They never shut all the lights off in the lab, and it bothered him when he slept. Especially in his tank. It was like the glass was illuminated. He also would’ve loved to have some privacy. Maybe more sparkly things to make his…

He was also hoping that the kid, Kevin, would stop by again, to see what was going on with his captives. They seemed agitated at him for some reason, and he wanted to know why. The kid was an open book, and he was able to invade his mind easily, without any trouble. There was no way Angel would be able to get into the adult’s minds as easily, and he just didn’t have the energy anymore.

Now that he thought about it, he very well could’ve told the kid to tell the scientists what he wanted to eat. To bad he was too stubborn. Even if they did give him something that he could eat, he wouldn’t. Angel wasn’t about to take food from them. Not even from the kid, although the man that had given him treasure…

It was the lack of food and sunlight. Why couldn’t these scientists realize that he needed it! They played a huge part in a mermaid’s survival.

Angel was back on the water, floating on his back, thinking of ways of how to get out, when he heard a screeching of metal, coming from behind the large machine that the scientists had placed in the room, and seemed to congregate around.

Angel quickly went to the side of the tank, peering out into the shadows.

But he couldn’t see anything. That is, until it stepped out.

It was one of the most hideous of thing he’d ever seen, that is, from it’s neck down. It was long body, much like a human’s, but covered in dull feathers, the fingers and toes ended in sharp claws, perfect for tearing apart it’s victim. It face was also like that of a human, a very beautiful one, but it’s mouth was grotesque.

It was cracked, and looked as if it was being torn apart, the edges going farther back than a regular mouth, allowing it to open much farther if the creature adjusted it’s jaw, showing a row of nasty, bloody curved teeth.

Angel knew exactly what it was after. Him.

True to his thought, it stalked towards him, and the merman knew that, if it got past the glass, then there was nothing that he could do.

Except, the woman…

The creature seemed to catch on to his thought, for it turned around quickly, and walked slowly to the woman.

Angel swam to up the glass, and began pounding on it, trying to wake the woman. There must be something she could do, if only she was awake!

The creature was only a few feet away from Leah, when she finally woke up, confused as to where she was, and looked up.

The first thing she saw, was Angel pounding on the side of the tank, a look of terror on his face. She was about to get up to get closer to see what he was going on about, when she saw it.

Her eyes widened, it’s face looking vaguely familiar, before it came to her.

“You-” Was all she was able to say, before the thing was on her, snapping her neck, and taking a chunk out for good measure, along with being an appetizer for what was to come.

Angel watched in terror as the woman was quickly indisposed, without even being able to cry out for help, before it turned to him.

It stalked up to the tank, seeming to grin as it got closer. It stopped, right in front of the glass. It cocked it’s head to the side, before walking to the side of the tank, opposite the stairs, and stared at the large tube coming out of it, and to the water.

Even if it was one of the best hunters, it still couldn’t fight a merman in his domain, even if he had been weakened.

And that’s what it’s prey was. Weak. It seemed to not have eaten in weeks, and probably wouldn’t be able to fight back as it had the first time they met, the creature only managing to leave shallow gashes before the merman made it’s escape.

The creature’s smiled widened, showing even more teeth, and hooked it’s claws on the tube, and pulled. It hardly even took a tug before water was flooding the floor, coming out of the tank.

It watched as Angel lost his only hope in the tank. Now it just had to get to it before the merman used his trump card, if he could.

It quickly made it’s way to the other side, and climbed up the metal stairs. It made quick work of the bolts, tearing them clean off, before lifting up the door.

It waited as the water continued to flood, getting excited by the look of horror on the merman’s face. It was going to eat well tonight.

After a few moments, the water was down to the merman’s knee.

Angel, in fear, began to throw himself at the glass wall, hoping it would break. Or at least make a noise for the scientists to come in. He wished the treasure man was there. He would be able to protect Angel from this creature, of that he was sure. Angel knew power when he saw it. It equalled, if not rose above, his predator’s.

When the monster dropped itself through the door, Angel knew that he had no hope, not unless he could scrounge up a little bit more energy.

With everything that he had, even if meant death without a fight, he conjured up every last shred of energy he had.

The creature saw what he was doing, and launched itself forward, but it was too late, already the air started to vibrate with noise that the merman was letting out.

A high pitched keen. High enough to break thick glass, which it was what it did.
