CHAPTER 6:
“Hello puppet,” Kiyoshi could not believe his eyes. He was staring up into the face of ice. The shadowy man, the murderer, was here in his house, lying over him; in his bed! Kiyoshi wanted to scream, but couldn’t get any sounds, but panic-stricken mumbles, “Glad to see you remember me.” As the mysterious man’s voice spoke, the lamp beside Kiyoshi’s bed turned on by itself. This shocked Kiyoshi, but not the man, who continued to tug lightly on Kiyoshi’s black hair, “I still don’t want to believe that you are to be my puppet,” the man, Luke, moved Kiyoshi’s sheets further down Kiyoshi’s body. Kiyoshi was wearing no shirt; the symbol over his heart was visible, “But this is all the proof I need.” Kiyoshi let out a wince as the symbol on his chest began to glow again. For some reason, whenever this man was around, Kiyoshi’s symbol glowed.
“Who…who are you?” Kiyoshi was finally able to speak, though his voice seemed drier then a desert. Luke gave Kiyoshi a warming grin, though the grin seemed almost deathly.
“I’ll tell you on the way…” Kiyoshi gave the man a surprised stare.
“What,” Kiyoshi wanted to shake his head, but he still felt frozen in place from fright, “What do you mean…?”
“I mean you’re coming with me tonight,” Luke gave Kiyoshi another grin before getting to his feet, “Put on this shirt.” Kiyoshi had one of his t-shirts thrown onto him. He quickly pulled it over his chest.
“I still don’t understand,” Kiyoshi didn’t know why, but somehow he felt that perhaps he could trust this man, “Where are you taking me…” Kiyoshi barely had time to finish his sentence. He flew back in panic as his window flew open. It flew open after the man had looked at it; same with the lamp. Kiyoshi began to wonder if this man was some sort of magician. Kiyoshi thought that perhaps a group of white bunnies would pile up out from under his mattress, but that is not what happened next.. Before he knew it, Kiyoshi was flying into the man’s arms. Kiyoshi gave off a deathly scream just as his mouth automatically closed, along with his eyes. Kiyoshi grew panicky and confusion hit him hard, “What’s going on,” Kiyoshi asked himself, “I…I can’t move open my mouth, or my eyes. No…this can’t be happening!” Kiyoshi felt himself being lifted into the air and a sudden chill entered through his body. He was being flown out of his bedroom window! Screaming through his throat, Kiyoshi wished that his mouth would reopen as he was carried off into the night.
--
Kiyoshi could still not move his eyes or mouth. Wherever this mysterious man had taken him, it hadn’t taken long. Kiyoshi could smell smoke; a factory? Kiyoshi wasn’t sure, but since he only wore a shirt, sweats, and his socks, he was freezing. Not for long, though, for the mysterious man finally entered into a building. The man’s pace changed to a slow walk. Kiyoshi wanted to fight his way off of this man, but knew he was no match for the man. He decided to hear the man out, being brave once again, (according to Akina’s words.)
Luke held his puppet tightly in his arms. The boy’s feet dragged, but Luke was very strong. Sneaking around the building, Luke kept as quiet as possible. Luckily for him, his puppet had stopped moaning halfway through the journey. Luke did not want his thug members to know of his puppet. At least, not so soon, because he had no idea how they would react. Taking the shortcut through another hallway, Luke finally made it to his bedroom chamber with his puppet. Opening the door, Luke shut it behind him before pushing his puppet down onto the bed.
Kiyoshi was relieved. He felt the man release him onto something soft. Soon, Kiyoshi felt he was able to move his mouth. Soon, his eyes followed pursuit. Looking around, Kiyoshi gasped to find himself on a large, white-sheeted bed in a dark, sinister looking bedroom. Standing before him was the mysterious man.
“Step #1,” the man spoke, his voice still sounding low and harsh, “Introduction and discussion.” Kiyoshi pulled his knees up to his chest, keeping an eye on the mysterious man, who pulled up a chair and sat before Kiyoshi, “You are as confused as I am, mortal.” Kiyoshi gasped at the suddenness of being called a mortal. “Very confused,” Luke let off a snicker, “So I shall start. My name is Luke and I’m immortal.” Kiyoshi stayed silent, but gave a nod to Luke, allowing him to know that Kiyoshi was listening, “And you, my precious boy,” Luke’s grin grew wider then a banana, “You are my puppet.” Kiyoshi felt nervous around this man, Luke, but he kept his head on.
“Please,” Kiyoshi whispered, his voice still shaken up, “I’m confused. Tell me, what’s a puppet? I don’t understand what you mean when you say that I’m your puppet.”
“Of course you don’t,” Luke spoke, not sounding at all troubled by Kiyoshi’s question, “You’re a mortal. But I will tell you. Each immortal is, at a certain time, given a puppet. One immortal is born with a ‘P’ symbol somewhere on their body, while another is not. In the future, one immortal with a symbol and one immortal without a symbol will be destined to meet. Sometime, someplace, they will meet…” Luke let Kiyoshi sink in the first few words of the story, then continued on, “It’s rare, however, for a mortal blood to be born with the symbol, for mortals and immortals were never meant to get along. They were each too different from one another. In our time, there’s a story of only one other mortal born with the story, a female, but nobody knows what happened to her.” Luke watched as Kiyoshi suddenly became very into the story, so Luke let a sly grin form over his face as he finished, “You, boy, have the very symbol of indication that you are, in fact, a puppet. Though you’re a mortal, you do have that symbol and it was placed right over your heart.” Kiyoshi slowly moved his hand over where the symbol was, and he rubbed it softly.
“This?” Kiyoshi shook his head, “I always thought this was a bizarre birthmark.”
“Well it’s not,” Luke said, “It’s indication of who you were meant to be.” Kiyoshi was still bewildered by this whole story.
“But,” Kiyoshi looked over at Luke, “But what exactly is a puppet? What do I have to do?” Luke disliked how the boy did not get things right away, but he found it adorable when the boy’s face was full of confusion.
“Your name,” Luke began, “It’s Kiyoshi, correct?”
“How…how did you know?” Kiyoshi blinked, then, as Luke leaned closer to him.
“The night I saw you for the first time, I read your nametag.” Kiyoshi cursed under his breath. For his next case, he’ll have to remember that. Next time he’ll try not to act so scared and stupid, “Kiyoshi,” Luke continued to speak, “It means “quiet” doesn’t it?” Kiyoshi nodded his head, shocked to hear that Luke knew what his name meant.
“You still haven’t answered me,” Kiyoshi suddenly grew braver around Luke, “What’s a puppet?” Before he knew it, Kiyoshi was knocked down onto the bed. He gasped in shock as Luke stared down at him. Kiyoshi began to feel very uncomfortable when Luke began to play with his earlobe.
“Kiyoshi, Kiyoshi, Kiyoshi,” Luke snickered, “You still don’t know?” Kiyoshi shook his head, waiting for Luke’s answer, “You’re my puppet. Basically that means that you are my soul-mate, my idolizer…” Luke’s eyes suddenly grew a different side to them as he finished speaking; his voice was low, “My play toy…” Kiyoshi could feel his body tense all over. He could not believe the words coming out of Luke’s mouth, “You’ll sleep here tonight,” Luke spoke, rising off the bed, “Take my bed. I will be sleeping on the chair.” Kiyoshi was shocked about everything. He felt like he could faint at any second, but never did. He felt nauseous and prayed to his stomach that everything would stay down. He crawled to the top of the bed and tucked himself under the covers. Luckily he was off work the next morning. Kiyoshi didn’t feel tired. He knew that man, Luke, was watching his every move, but after a while he could no longer control his body, and he fell into a deep, deep sleep.
--
That next morning Kiyoshi was alone in the room. He quickly leaped to his feet and opened the door to look out into a long hallway going to the left and right. Closing the door behind him, Kiyoshi headed towards the sound of many voices. He wasn’t really scared of this place, anymore, though he still felt a tad disturbed by the sudden shock of being Luke’s so-called puppet.
Turning his head around a corner, Kiyoshi nearly gasped to find a group of what he assumed to be immortals chattering away on random discussion. Kiyoshi looked about for Luke, but did not see him. Sighing, Kiyoshi turned to go back to the room, but he accidentally tripped over his feet and fell down the stairs. When he looked up, several immortals were looking down on him. Kiyoshi not only felt scared, he was humiliated from the fall.
“Well, well, well,” spoke a black-skinned immortal, “What do we have here?” It was Rod who spoke and using his strong muscles he lifted Kiyoshi to his feet.
“Ooh,” spoke a female immortal with long, glittering purple hair, “He’s a cutie. Where’d ya come from, sweetheart?”
“I…I”
“Oh Jewels,” spoke Ivalyn, pushing back her long brown hair, “Can’t you see the poor dear is scared out of his mind?” Jewels, the purple-haired immortal, gave off a shrieking giggle.
“So kid,” Teo spoke this time, moving his face into Kiyoshi’s, “What’s a guy like you doing in a place like this?” Teo asked this as Rob grabbed hold of Kiyoshi’s shirt. Rod was the first to notice something on the inside of Kiyoshi’s first.
“This kid,” Rod’s eyes widened, “This kid is a puppet!” With that said, each immortal in the room ran up to Kiyoshi, each taking a turn at examining the symbol over his heart. Chen glared at the symbol last.
“Damn it’s not glowing,” Chen turned to the others, “He’s not mine.”
“He’s not mine either,” Jewels spoke, saddened, “Bummer. He’s very cute, too.”
“Well then whose is he?” Rod asked this, but received no answer. Then, footsteps were heard coming from where Kiyoshi fell. All turned their heads to find Luke standing in the doorway. The leader has come, “Luke,” Rod held Kiyoshi high into the air, “This young immortal came from out of nowhere. He has a symbol of indication on his chest.” Kiyoshi gave Luke a plead of help stare. Moving down the stairs, Luke walked over to his group.
“Release him,” Luke commanded. Rod did so, but all of the immortals were terribly confused, “I know who he belongs too.” The immortals all waited for Luke’s reply, but their faces grew surprised when Luke brought Kiyoshi into his arms, giving Kiyoshi a nod, “Step #2, introduction to the team. His name is Kiyoshi and he’s my puppet.” Gasps flew all across the room. Each immortal was extremely shocked by the news. Chen, of the group, was especially shocked. She felt an inside of her begin to empty.
“Luke,” Teo tried to speak, “He’s…he’s…”
“He’s my puppet,” Luke held closely to Kiyoshi, “he came to me two days ago.” Luke began to lead Kiyoshi back to the bedroom, “You shouldn’t have snuck out of my room.”
“Wait,” Luke turned to Rod, “He has to do the test! If he’s going to be with us, he has to do the test as proof!” The other immortals began to agree with Rod. After all, Rod was second in charge next to Luke. Luke glared at his fellow group. Kiyoshi was wondering what this test was. “If all of our puppets have to be tested,” Rod spoke, “Then so does yours!” Everyone awaited Luke’s answer. He soon gave in.
“Very well,” Luke brought Kiyoshi back over as the immortals cheered, “He’ll do the test.” Another immortal, a male, grabbed a knife from off of the eating table, bringing it over to Luke and Kiyoshi. Kiyoshi’s eyes widened in fear. What were they going to do with that! Luke put out his hand and the male set the knife onto Luke’s palm. Kiyoshi’s eyes stayed widened. Luke could see the fear in Kiyoshi’s eyes, “Stick out your arm,” Luke commanded. Kiyoshi held his arm to his chest, but Luke made it so Kiyoshi’s arm stuck out. As Luke lowered the cold knife onto Kiyoshi’s skin, Kiyoshi let out a terrifying scream as the knife cut through his skin. Kiyoshi watched as blood from his arm oozed out. The blood dripped onto the floor. The immortals all began to cheer and they all just stood there, staring; as if waiting for something to happen.
After a while the immortals all began to grow confusion. They all stared at Kiyoshi in disbelief. They gave one another awestruck expressions. Rod was the first to speak.
“He’s not healing,” Rod gave Luke an angered glare, “This boy is a mortal!” Luke got hard, cold stares from most of his group of immortals. Teo, Ivalyn, and Chen gave him worried glances, but they didn’t seem angered by the fact that Kiyoshi was mortal. Luke ripped a piece of his shirt off, then wrapped it around the wound he gave to Kiyoshi.
“Yes,” Luke answered as he tied the wrappings, making Kiyoshi wince, “He is mortal.”
“He cannot stay here,” Rod growled, “He is not an immortal!” Other immortals shouted agreeing with Rod, moving closer towards Kiyoshi. They, however, were all forced against the wall by Luke’s strong magic. Kiyoshi was surprised by this.
“Nobody will touch him,” Luke shouted, a sudden anger was released. Kiyoshi, nor any of Luke’s group, has seen this side of him before, “He will stay here, with us! If any of you dare touch him, dare try to hurt him in any way, you can bet your ass that I will use my powers to murder you!” This made the immortals shut up. Though they are immortal to most things, there is one possible way for any immortal to perish, and that is by the hands of another immortal. Taking his words seriously, the immortals could only watch as Luke led Kiyoshi away, back into his bedroom chamber.
--
“I can’t believe you,” Kiyoshi yelled, now back in Luke’s room, “You drag me here, threaten me, and cut my arm and all because I’m your puppet! I hate you!” Luke stared at the screaming Kiyoshi. Kiyoshi was acting like a toddler throwing a tantrum, but Luke stayed still, “I just want to go home.” Kiyoshi gave out a sigh and sat back on Luke’s outstandingly comfortable bed. Kiyoshi held onto his wounded arm. The cut wasn’t that deep, but it still stung like crazy!
Luke thought it best to get onto the next step of the puppet process. Removing his cape from his body, Luke slowly walked over to the door and locked it. Kiyoshi watched Luke as Luke walked over to him.
“This is what it takes,” Luke spoke coldly, giving Kiyoshi a shiver, “You are my puppet and there’s no changing your destiny. You are not allowed to talk, walk, eat, drink, anything without my permission.” Kiyoshi gasped as he felt himself being throw off the bed and pushed up against the wall, “You’re mine…” Luke hissed, “All mine.” Kiyoshi felt as if chains had wrapped around his wrists and ankles. He felt trapped and could only watch in fear as Luke came closer, “Step #3,” Luke whispered, “Seduction…”
