Chapter 5

“Why shouldn’t I rip your throat out Maddison?”, Marcus asked, his fangs dangerously close to the delicate hollow of her neck and Maddison swallowed nervously, wondering had she really underestimated her vampire.

“If you killed me it would cause ructions throughout the watcher’s sect. You would create even more trouble for yourself”, she said and Marcus laughed but the sound held no mirth.

“You think I care about the sect? I think its about time I use you to set an example for them to leave me alone…or else”, he said, his teeth grazing her skin and Maddison decided she needed to take evasive action and quickly.

Without knowing how she remembered it, she began to chant one of her freezing incantations in her head and she watched with interest as Marcus began to struggle to move and she shoved at him and was able to get out from underneath him.

She raced from the room and tried to find her way out of the house but it was big and everywhere was dark.

She tried to remember a spell for light but she was concentrating so hard on trying to find a way out of Marcus’ house that she couldn’t think straight.

Marcus cursed and struggled and eventually managed to break the weak spell that was holding him in place.

He took off after Maddison, rage coursing through him as he vowed that she would not get away from him this time.

She opened a door and a scream stuck in her throat as Marcus stood before her, his fangs bared and his black eyes gleaming at her.

She held up her hands as though to ward him off but he knocked them out of the way as he grabbed her with one arm around her waist and one hand gripping her hair.

She whimpered as he yanked her head back and her hands grabbed at his shoulders as she struggled to get away from him.

“Marcus…please….don’t”, she said, her voice soft and Marcus looked at her, a moment of indecision passing through him but he shook his head, getting rid of the thought and he bent his head to her neck.

Maddison cried out as he sank his fangs into her soft skin and her fingers flexed on his shoulders as at first pain wracked her and Marcus held her fast as he began to drink from her, the taste of her almost overwhelming his senses.

Slowly, pleasure began to course through Maddison and her hands fell from Marcus and hung by her sides and he had to keep her upright as she moaned in what sounded like ecstasy.

‘Damn this woman, what was wrong with her? She wasn’t supposed to enjoy being drained of her life’, he thought as she groaned again loudly.

With a curse he pulled away from her and Maddison’s eyes immediately sprang open and she began to speak out loud the words of the spell that would freeze Marcus long enough for her to make sure she got out of the house this time.

As he became immobile she staggered past him, still drunk from the sensations he had evoked in her.

She made her way out of the house, ignoring the stares from the old couple who were just going into the house next door.

She moved down the street, glancing behind her nervously just to make sure that Marcus wasn’t following and then when she got onto the next street she hailed a passing black cab and went back to the mansion.

Thankfully she got inside and was able to grab some money, pay the driver and then make it back to the library before anyone saw her.

There was an old mirror with an ornate gold frame hung upon one of the walls and Maddison made her way over to it and cautiously moved her long curls away from her neck to assess the damage that Marcus had done.

She looked closely at the two puncture wounds and her eyes widened as suddenly they began to grow smaller and then were gone.

She rubbed over the skin with her fingers as her mind wandered back to the way it had felt to have Marcus hold her close, making her his in his own unique way and she sighed almost dreamily before catching herself and she straightened her back.

What on earth was she thinking? He had just almost gone through with his threat to kill her…..but he hadn’t. What had made him pull away from her like he had?

Maybe she had underestimated his strength and the power he held but, and it was a big but, something kept stopping him from killing her and that gave her the confidence she needed to know that she could carry on with what she had started.

Just then a voice interrupted her reverie and she turned, startled as her mother said,

“Oh you’re here. I’ve been looking for you and I thought you were mis-behaving again”.

“No….I’ve been…around”, Maddison replied and her mother frowned as she took in her daughter’s pale pallor.

“Are you alright?”, she asked and Maddison nodded.

“Just a little tired…I’ve been reading spells all night”.

“Well, maybe you should go to bed”, Marianne said and Maddison nodded.

She moved toward her mother and kissed her cheek before leaving the room and Marianne looked around, looking for signs that her daughter was lying.

She knew that Maddison seemed to be taking too much of an interest in Marcus Baker, the question was why?

Still, nothing seemed out of place so Maddison must have adhered to their warnings for now.

Sighing she left the library and switched all the lights off, failing to see Marcus staring in through the French windows, his eyes thunderous and his fangs aching to finish off what he had started earlier with Maddison.

As the room before him plunged into darkness, Marcus turned away.

He needed to kill something…..now!

-------

Marcus leapt from the roof of the building he was watching from and he landed on top of the woman he was stalking. Muffling her cries for help, he slammed his fangs into her neck and drank her dry.

Even after sating the blood hunger though he was still unable to forget the taste of Maddison's blood running down his throat.

'Damn that woman, what is so special about her?', wondered Marcus frustratedly as he wandered through the streets back to his house.

After he got back home he walked into his bedroom and sealed the curtains. He threw off his clothes and got underneath the silk covers.

'Why can't I get this damned woman out of my head?', he thought as he fell asleep.

Slowly he began to dream.

A bright searing light began to grow larger with indistinct voices floating all around. The light grew brighter, a startling heat beginning to grow from the pulsing as it grew larger. The babble of voices became louder as the light grew larger still, searing him with the intense heat that it was throwing out. He heard Maddison's voice just as the light grew and engulfed him. He opened his eyes and screamed in pain as the light from the nightmare/vision burned him.

'Damn it I can't even get any peace from Maddison even when I’m asleep', he thought as he turned onto his back.

He felt the warmth of the sunlight through the sealed curtains against the window.

"I'm going to find her tonight, she’s done something to me", he muttered.

----

In a dark chamber Maddison walks through a narrow passage way with spirits jabbering in unintelligible voices. She follows a steadily growing light through the tunnels until she reaches a room where she can see Marcus lying on the ground as a growing orb of light nears him. She calls out to him as the orb passes through him, he yells in pain as the heat from the orb burns him. His body glows brightly as the orb integrates into him.

Her eyes shot open and she gasped as she was pulled from the strange dream.

"Damn! Must have something to do with him drinking my blood", she muttered.

'There must be something in the archives about all that', she thought.

Later that day, after spending hours in the library she sighed in frustration and gave up as her searches returned nothing.

"What a very bizarre dream", she muttered as she recalled the dream.

She decided to spend some time learning her defensive spells and got out her grimore.

'I need to learn how to use these spells properly so that I can get away from Marcus if he ever tries to trap me again', she thought as she practiced her freezing spells on her wardrobe.

The sun began to slip away leaving darkness in its place.

Not long after, Maddison left to go to the dining hall and she suddenly felt a tug at her mind, a whisper floating through her head.

She felt compelled to leave the mansion as she followed the whispers beckoning call.

After walking some distance she arrived outside a small club. She walked inside and found where the impulsive presence was coming from.

"Marcus?", questioned Maddison as she broke out of the trance.

"Have a seat Maddie, I need to ask you a question", said Marcus. He sent another whisper to her compelling her to sit.

"What did you do to me Maddie?", asked Marcus simply.

"I haven't done anything to you, except stupidly give you some of my blood", said Maddison. "Oh and its Maddison not Maddie if you don‘t mind".

"You've done something to me, I can't stop thinking about you", said Marcus, clearly frustrated.

“Well I’m flattered…honestly, but……”, she trailed off as she felt something.

Maddison never knew that werewolves had any significant aura until tonight, she felt Michael's power storming over her before she heard the door slamming open and the bouncer being thrown against the wall.

"Maddison! Are you ok?", shouted Michael, his teeth growing pointed and his arms transforming.

"Yeah, I’m ok. How did you find me?", asked Maddison while Marcus glared at Michael.

"Your mother is outside, she sensed that this creature here was luring you", sneered Michael.

"I'm not the only 'creature' here", snarled Marcus. "And we were having a discussion before you rudely interrupted us".

Michael growled at him, his vocal cords shifting,

"Too bad. I’m taking Maddison back home".

"Pity you haven't done a good job of protecting her more", said Marcus.

"It won't be happening again, you’re to stay away from her or I will kill you", threatened Michael.

"I'd like to see you try, but its not going to happen. You don't even have control of yourself", smirked Marcus as Michael's hands twisted into paws as the claws extended.

"Come on Michael, get me out of here", said Maddison as she got up.

She grasped his paw, careful not to scratch herself on his claws and pulled him away from the table.

"I will find out what you did to me Maddie", called out Marcus.

"What does he mean be that?", asked Michael as Maddison led him out of the club.

"I don't have the slightest clue", said Maddison relived as Michael's body began returning to normal.

"Maddison dear, are you alright?", asked Marianne as they approached Michael’s car.

"Yes, I'm fine mum", replied Maddison.

"Ok, well if your sure", said Marianne who was with Alexandria.

"Michael are you ok?", asked Alexandria, concern obvious in her voice.

"Yeah, I’m fine now. Thanks babe", said Michael.

"Ok, it's just that I’ve never seen you so angry before",said Alexandria as she kissed him on the cheek.

"He's a cocky son of a bitch", said Michael.

"I can see that", said Alexandria as they drove back to the mansion.

Maddison laid down to sleep after she arrived back home.

After falling asleep she found herself in a large room with a huge bed that had black silk sheets and several candles burning all around it. She looked around the room which had thick black curtains hanging from the window. Her eyes widened as her mouth gaped open when Marcus entered and slipped off his boxers.

She almost had a heart attack after taking in the sight of his strong masculine body.

He climbed on top of her, kissing her mouth then her throat as he plunged himself into her silky hot depths. She moaned out in pleasure at the unexpected intrusion.

He thrust into her again and bit into her neck causing her to shriek in pleasure as he drew some of her blood.

She opened her eyes panting rapidly as she took in the powerfully erotic dream that she had just had.

'Wow, I think Marcus might actually be right. Something strange did happen between us', she thought.

----

Marcus growled as he bit into Maddison's neck in yet another dream and he drew her blood, the expected surge of pleasure from it driving him into a frenzy.

Marcus opened his eyes and groaned in frustration.

'These dreams are so maddeningly real, I need to find out what happened', he thought frustratedly.

He got up and made plans to contact the voodoo priestess he had had dealings with before. Maybe she could help him figure out what was going on.
